Should school lunches be longer? According to The American Academy of Pediatrics a child should be able to have at least 20 minutes for lunch. But that means 20 minutes to actually sit down and eat — excluding time waiting in line or walking from class to cafeteria. It is a day-to-day occurrence hearing students complaining that the food is cold, having to shove the food down in order to eat everything on the tray, and my favorite is complaints on how food was thrown away since the bells have already rung. Why is this happening? How can they justify taking nutrition away for more instructional time? Multiple students go home after school and raid the refrigerator or cupboards grazing for food. Interesting enough most of the students will choose
I know there are many arguments for saying our lunch should stay short. For instance people might be worried that if we have too much time, we won't use it to be productive or to eat. Well maybe, some kids might abuse it you never know, but should a few kids ruin it for the rest of us? Also i'm not saying we should have an hour and a half lunch, i'm saying, around 45 minutes, to an hour lunch. That gives us some time to relax a little, maybe do work, and to eat our food, without choking on it. Having a longer lunch hour at the Mt. Pleasant
Do you feel rushed at lunchtime and don’t have enough time to eat your lunch, well I have a solution, longer lunch.
Do you let your children eat school lunches? Your answer may depend on your income level, time in the morning for lunch preparation, or your concern for your child’s health. Schools should continue in improving the nutrition of school lunches; however, physical education should also be mandatory from Kindergarten until senior year. Recommended levels of physical activity counts as increasing heart rate to breathe hard for some time of a total of sixty minutes per day, for at least five days a week (Wexler, 2010). Most schools focus on providing low calorie lunches, and although it is a fine goal in reducing childhood obesity, schools should also provide a variety of
There are students that don’t eat lunch because they don’t like what is provided. If the students are back by the time the next class starts students should be able to leave. The school should give students a chance to prove they can be trusted. Schools should give them a specific amount of chances and if they ruin those chances they shouldn’t be able to leave anymore, but they don’t even give them a chance.
Do you think your school needs improvements? I think my school has a few, but the lunches are easily the most recognizable. The school board should change our lunches because they are microwaved, they are not filling, and the school lunches have the same thing every day of the week. Seriously, none of the kids like them, so just get us brand named foods.
One of the most controversial issues today is the question of how to address childhood obesity. Because of the large proportion of meals that children, particularly low-income children, consume in schools, cafeteria food has been targeted by dietary reformers as in need of a major overhaul. However, while many different types of new school menus have been proposed, the extent to which healthier foods can be offered remains controversial. Opponents to reform state that children will not eat healthier lunches, and that changing the food that children eat will have minimal impact, since the children will either bring food from home or eat food at home that is more 'kid friendly.'
School lunches have been getting shorter since 2009 in many places in the US. Students academics have been decreasing also since the school lunch times have been getting shorter. School lunches should be at least 1 hour long to give students enough time to eat an healthy meal and to get enough time to burn off energy.
One in three Americans kids are obese or over weight which is a staggering and alarming rate at the same time. So looking 20 years into the future that number could double if nothing is said and done about what we are eating. The public school food in school lunches are unhealthy for many alarming reasons, but not much can be done immediately due to strict guidelines and budgets that schools must follow. A lot of it goes to kids not exercising, and more time watching TV, or playing on the computer. And now days more families have less time to make nutritious home made meals. So they tend to eat School cafeteria lunches that have minimal nutrition’s and harmful calories. To prevent your kid from being over weight mean adapting what you eat, and having to exercise at least 60 minutes a day. If the changes are made to change school lunches, it can help them from being obese, children can improve their lifestyle choices, and lastly it prevents them from getting harmful diseases.
HELP! I'm dying!... because school lunches are cringing! Students should be allowed to leave class during lunch hours, and be trusted to leave and return back in time for their next class. If high schools gave students this right it would teach them how to manage their time wisely and it would help them become responsible. Students who leave campus during lunch are most likely end up going to a local business to get their lunch which is both good for the students and the local businesses. Students with special food allergies could leave campus during lunch and go to their homes and get food they could actually eat and not be worried that their food could have been cross contaminated to something they're allergic to. Students who leave campus during lunch would come back energized and ready for their next classes.
The number 1 problem at pilot grove school district is not having longer lunch periods. This is a big problem because the lunch shifts now are too short and kids can’t eat enough to not go hungry throughout the day. Also, we students don't get the time to talk to our friends in class so lunch is the only time to talk to each other and it's very difficult to talk if your stuffing food in your mouth at the same time and watching the clock and get ready to go to our next class. I also hear about other schools around the country are having 45 minute lunch shifts or longer. Therefore, since those schools get to have that long to eat a talk, we should to we could
As we all know, everyone wants longer lunch periods because it is a time where they can socialize and don’t have to learn, but there is also another advantage to having longer lunch periods. Most people don’t know this, but having a longer lunch period allows you to receive more of the nutrients your body needs to function properly and to its’ full potential. In a report in 2014 by the School Nutrition Association, they reviewed 1001 students and found stunning information that showed,”... students with less than 20 minutes… 13 percent less of their entrees… 12 percent less of their vegetables… 10 percent less of their milk compared.. 25 mins.” (Paragraph 5, Source 3). This proves that when students have a shorter time to eat, they will not
Many public school students on average only get about 20 minutes or less to eat there lunch. Because of that about 1/4 of students lunches will not get eaten and it will get thrown away. School lunches should be longer for many reasons, but the main reasons that school lunches should be longer is because students would be able to have healthier meals, students who have a longer lunch do better in school and because students would have more time to socialize with each other. Longer lunches in school would have many benefits for students.
Kids don’t like school lunch. It tastes bad and we don’t get the “at home feel” when we eat it. Kids should be allowed to leave school as long as they are back on time. School lunches are proven to be unhealthy. Students aren’t as active if they eat school lunch.
What if you found out your kids are starving because of school lunches? Well, sorry to break it to you, some kids are not eating the school lunches that are now being served to them. We shouldn't let the government make laws about school lunches. Even though there is a problem of not having lots of healthy foods on our plates, we could still put at least 2 on their plates, or 3, instead of the whole plate being carrots! My reasons of why the government shouldn't create the laws of school lunches; There is a strict plate diet, it' s expensive, and the 1st lady thinking that the parents don't know how to “help” their kids. We should, of course, get rid of those laws on school lunches.
There needs to be some sort of regulation imposed on school lunches, in order to fight the growing obesity epidemic. Many people disagree with this statement, and have their own thoughts on the matter. The National School Lunch Act was passed in 1946 by President Harry Truman. All over the country, school districts joined lunch programs designed to feed children at free or reduced prices. In doing so, school districts had to follow specific guidelines that these programs required. Over the years, these standards have changed increasingly in order to provide children optimal nutrition. While many districts have fully taken advantage and successfully made the turn for the better, others struggle or are taking a little more time in
