Did you know your average soldier only gets paid around 9 dollars an hour? The military is known for low payment to their soldiers. Soldiers used to only make minimum wage, that was around 7 dollars. Since then it has increased, but not as much as we want it to. It has only increased a couple percent over the past decades. People have protested for a bigger raise and have fought for that for a very long time. Trump has wanted to give the troops a raise that they deserve. An average young soldiers will only bring home around 1500 dollars a month. An average person in the United States will bring home around 2500 dollars a month. That is a 1000 dollar difference. Those soldiers have kids to feed and bills to pay. The military deserve a raise, …show more content…
The military should get paid more. The brave men and women risk their lives every day fighting for our freedom. While we sit at home, the soldiers who fight for us are being killed and are in danger. Soldiers will come home from war without arms and legs. Some soldiers never get come home because they died in combat fighting for our freedom. They will do anything to keep us safe. “The military are on call 24/7 and 365 days a year, have long-term deployments, and have family separation.”(3) To me, that doesn't sound like a fun job to have. Soldiers will go overseas and be in a very dangerous area where there are guns, explosives, and all kinds of things that could seriously injure you or even kill you. “Members of the military put their lives at risk and that makes them the most underpaid people in America”.(3) Many soldiers will come back home very injured and have permanent damage to their bodies and they still make a lower amount than people who type on a computer. “The average soldier makes $9.25 an hour.”(1) That is very low for putting your life on the line. “The majority of the military soldiers makes around $40,000 a year.”(1) The people who join the military care about our country and our freedom and that's why they joined, so we can be free. The brave, strong soldiers who put their lives on the line for our freedom deserve to be given a …show more content…
“Many soldiers put their lives on the line, which that makes them the most underpaid people in America.” (3) The average soldier makes around $40,000 a year. The average in the United States is $50,000. ”The U.S. military is pending around $886 billion.”(6) Looking at those numbers there is a big gap between the average and what a soldier would make. Minimum wage in the United States is between 7 to 8 dollars. Since studies show that years ago that the average soldier makes less than minimum wage so that puts them around 6 dollars or so. Since then it has increased, The average soldier today makes around $9.25 an hour. That isn't bad, it is higher than minimum wage but for what they are doing they deserve a higher pay. “If a soldier would work 40 hours a week, that would put them around $200 to $300.”(1) The average person makes around $2500 a month, a soldier makes $1,531.50. That is almost a thousand dollar difference.”In 2010 president Obama had a budget of %2.9 for soldiers to get paid more.”(2) The pay amount has increased very much over the years. “Donald Trump proposed a 7.5% increase for soldiers, it would be around 4 billion dollars”.(1) If he were to do that, where would he get the money from? I think the government should give the military more money. There is one flip side of my point of view on this though. “The military cant pay more than they have now to keep it straight.”(4) If the government would pay
Quinn and Castle explains why the government should raise the minimum wage and why it’s just common sense. They emphasis that it’s time for Congress to move ahead with this issue, one broadly supported by Americans before the article begins. The authors even show how as of today, as many as three quarters of Americans support an increase in minimum wage, with data polls disclosing majorities of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans in favor of the much need increases in the minimum wage. The authors also explain that by raising the minimum wage how it would save taxpayers billions of
Have you ever wondered how much NFL players get paid? NFL players get paid about $140 million in 6 years. I will be talking about why I am against NFL players getting paid more than anybody else including soldiers. Professional athletes shouldn’t be paid more than people who save lives.
Also, EMT-paramedics should make way more money because they do a dangerous job that saves lives and they do not even make a decent living. 31,000 dollars per year may not seem like that little of an amount of money, but if it is a family of six and an EMT-paramedic is the only one working in the family, they are actually below the poverty level. Money is not the most important thing about a career, but when I learned that the people who saved my life do not even make, on average, fifteen dollars an hour, I was shocked. Making that kind of money would make it difficult to provide for a family, so the spouse would also most likely have to work in order to make a decent family income. A household with a first responder should easily make six
Another fact is that they get paid more than people who serve for are country and risk here lfes for us. I still think they deserve some money but most of it should go to people in need of the money and people who don't have homes, food,or family who cares about them. Also they get paid to much because whatever their contract says they get even if they are hurt. All they do is swing a bat, throw a football, kick a ball, swim a pool,I could go on and on there is so much more.
A full time worker earning $7.25 an hour will make approximately $15,080 a year (“Minimum Wage”). That’s barely more than what students pay for housing and food at some colleges, and we expect a family to live off of this? The poverty line is at $20,000 for a family of four, so how are these people supposed to raise their children in a healthy environment while working full-time to not even be on the poverty line? If this raise is done correctly, employment and prices won’t be hurt, and we will only be helping our nation’s hardest workers. “Katrina Gill is a certified nursing aide. She monitors 28 patients from 10:30pm to 7am, checking vitals, preventing bedsores, and changing diapers. She makes $14,400 a year with no benefits. She currently has $160,000 worth of medical debt from her son’s cancer care” (Conlin). “Joseph Schiraldi guards the Empire State Building, one of the biggest terrorist targets in the world, for eight hours every-single day. He makes $7.50 an hour in the nation’s most expensive city with no pension, no health care, and no sick days” (Conlin). How is it fair that hard-workers are forced to live below poverty, when raising the federal minimum wage would not have any major negative effects on our economy? Although some people believe that it is unnecessary to raise the federal minimum wage, while looking at the facts it is necessary to realize the benefits it would bring.
Many economists argue that this pay is too low and should be increased in order to raise the standard of living in the United States. The main argument for the increase in the federal minimum wage is that the current wage provides significantly less purchasing power than it did in the past. According to CNN News Reporter Tom Perez, the cost of food, utilities, transportation, and other essentials have gone up, however low-wage workers’ paychecks have remained the same. Perez states that the purchasing power of the minimum wage has been eroding steadily since its peak in the late 1960’s, and the wage today would have to equal over $10 per hour just to equal the purchasing power first established in 1968 (“Raise Minimum Wage”). According to the United States Department of Labor, raising the country’s pay to at least $10.10 would be an important part of strengthening our economy because then the purchasing power would be at the ideal level. This raise for minimum wage earners would put more money in people’s pockets, which will in turn be spent on goods and services, and thus further stimulate economic growth locally and nationally (“Minimum Wage Mythbusters”). In order for businesses to grow they need customers that have money in their pockets because increased incomes will boost consumer demand and the consumer spending that powers our domestic economy. Many experts agree that raising the minimum wage is a key strategy for
Furthermore, military salaries should be raised way more than they are. The salary for a military officer is only $29,380! Yes, the people who put their life on the line to protect their country get paid less than $30,000! The average tennis player earns 10 times more than our military. The people who hit a ball with a racket earn around $300,000 a year! The people who protect this country with their hearts and lives should be paid way more than they do. What they get paid is insulting.
Donald Trump, the favorite candidate for this years election, recently claimed that wages are too high in America. One may wonder if he was lost in some sort of day dream or maybe he was talking about his own wages? As someone who has never had to worry about money, considering his families wealthy background, how would he possibly know what its like to live barely get by living off the federal minimum wage? Consider someone who is able to work a full time job being paid minimum wage, after taxes are taken out of their paycheck they would be looking at approximately a $13,000 salary per year. $12,000 is the poverty line in America for an individual. This is the life of a working class citizen in America. Constantly struggling to pay the bills and having to worry about how they are going to feed their children every week. The numbers show that minimum wage is clearly not sufficient to sustain a normal way of life and a raise would not only benefit millions of americans lives but also boost the economy.
Workers should not have to worry about not being able to pay the bills because they are not getting paid enough for her labor. They should be able to pay for all the expenses that they encounter and still have money left over to be able to spend on whatever they wish or even save some in the bank for their future. Instead, 66% of US workers who get paid less than ten dollars an hour are frequently worried about making ends meet. Of those same people, 50% of them struggle to pay for the essentials such as putting food on the table, according to Oxfam America report (“Should Federal Minimum”). If these family members got a higher wage, many of these problems would be solved. Congress should increase the Federal minimum wage to $10.10 to help
When it comes to raising the minimum wage, it 's an essential (U.S dept. Labour)ingredient in entering a stable economic society. Congress must raise to the challenge or face the consequences of a declining economy. With more than 70 percent of working class people working on minimum wages, the economy will surely benefit from giving them an increase. If they refuse to make an advancement towards the situation; we will make it very difficult for our future generations to raise out poverty. Help the working class people of American and pave a brighter road to our future economy. Lift the spirits of the American by giving them a raise. The cry of millions of American citizens living in poverty is most important to the economy. Whereas, raising
To begin with, the minimum wage should be raised at least above 8.50 an hour. According to The US Department of Health, the current poverty level is 17,000 a year, which is about 8.50 an hour (Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism). The current minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, a full dollar and a quarter less than the current poverty level. With this, the average American is not able to afford the basic living standards that America herself has set. The need for a work force has been on the decline in America with cheaper sources of labor being created. Ironically, the unemployment payment an American can receive is in some
The federal minimum wage shouldn’t be higher because it doesn’t contribute to society, the people of America should be paid more because an average person in today 's society cannot survive, and parents can’t provide a stable environment for their children, the work being done is worth than what is being received, the underpaid are made to have multiple jobs just to make ends meet.
Recorded in 2015, average living wage has been recorded at $11.87, as the minimum wage would’ve been if Congress had adjusted it for inflation over the past 35 years. While $7.25 may not seem that bad, when factoring some general expenses. Giving into consideration for the general public the biggest reason the minimum wage should be increased is the dramatic heights which gas prices have been shooting up again. Due to our national situations, gas prices have risen to nearly three dollars a gallon. Say one person were making the minimum wage amount third of their money goes to their gas tank. Unless such person lived precisely close to their job, it’s proven to be very costly. About 7.3 million personnel in the United States would value from an increases in the minimum wage. Almost 5,256,000 of those individuals, around 72%, are authorized drivers that could desperately use financial assistance with the rising prices and inflation. “The federal government is not living up to its responsibility so the states are acting,” (Senator
Millions of American employees are working countless hour every week to earn inadequate wage that result in many families living in poverty or to depend on paychecks to paychecks. Bernie Sander has the right approach when he quote “the current federal minimum wage is a starvation wage.” It’s time for a change the American population need better wages, increase the minimum wages will benefit every American including business and economy, the greater the paycheck the ability to buy goods and services will increase.
Finally, salary progression is very slow in the airline industry, many pilots continue to receive the same low pay for upwards of 15 years before being promoted to better pay. Forcing pilots to endure the same low pay for many years negatively impacts pilot's lifestyle, which is reflected in the flight deck. This poses a question, do pilots really deserve a tough life constantly struggling with money considering how many people they help? No, pilot salaries should be raised because it affects passenger safety. This is due to the reasons above: Low salaries cause pilots to leave the life of flying in search for better pay, many pilots are in large debt which they are put in from all of the college and flight training they are required to take, and the low salaries they are forced to endure for several years with no
