If you were to drop in on most any American high school these days, what would you see? Cell phones. Lots of them. Virtually all students have one and it 's typical to see them tapping away or listening to music through their ear buds not just in the hallways during the five minutes between classes, but also in the classroom, at every opportunity the teacher gives them. Most schools allow students to have cell phones for safety as a reaction to the Littleton, Colorado high school shooting incident of 1999. Apart from emergency situations, most schools don 't officially allow students to use cell phones during class time. However, when the teacher is busy helping out another student or writing on the board, out come the phones as …show more content…
Many teachers seem to accept this reasoning, little knowing about the data on multitasking and its deleterious effects on concentration and the ability to think clearly. Two years ago, for example, Peter Bregwan wrote in the Harvard Business Review Blog Network that multitasking can reduce productivity by as much as 40%, increase stress and cause a 10 point fall in IQ. But thinking clearly doesn 't seem to be one of the principal objectives in our high schools -- for the teachers or the administrative staff, much less for the students themselves. After all, this is a generation that is used to being entertained. Attention spans are short. During a block period -- which is two regular 40-minute periods back-to-back -- some teachers cajole their students to do some work during the first hour, and then promise them time to do whatever they want at the end, just to keep them from disturbing others. In some cases, schools have actually embraced cell phones and incorporated them into their teaching. Teachers argued over phone use in class room saying that they give students a chance to collaborate with each other, or connect with peers in other countries, They can be used for high-tech alternatives to boring classroom lectures, letting kids take part in interactive assignments like classroom
Phone technology has been upgrading and updating for years now, and that’s obvious, and that means that this generation is filled with it. While it’s upgrading it’s also becoming more in demand than before. The world is starting taking it to another level, so there are also the downsides of these phones, the downsides that make this technology distracting, making people to beleive they shouldn’t be alowed in class. While it is true, phones can be a distraction sometimes, if the students are monitered the right way and know exactly what they are doing, phones just might be able to work out. With proper use, phones should be alowed in school.
The first reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is that it will help with a lot of different things. If we have phones allowed at lunch, it will make more students comfortable. According to debate.org 76% of the people who visited this website said that they would allow cell phones, and 24% said
Most schools do not allow the use of cell phones in school or in class, so the school feels like changing their policy of cell phone use might be a bad idea. Students could take advantage or miss use the privilege of phones in class. There will always be students who act out in class, but the school must discipline those who do and reward those who do not.
From personal experience, I can say that high school students are going to have cell phones in class regardless of the punishments associated with getting caught; the main reason is that they seldom get caught. With one teacher and roughly thirty students, it is easy to sneak by the teacher’s gaze and send a text message here or there or find the score to the big game that you missed. Michael Rich, pediatrician and media expert, says, “Pandora’s box is open here… What we need to do is take control of them instead of them control us” (Teachers vs. Texting). To help reduce these disruptions from occurring, we need to incorporate cell phones into high school classroom with the other technologies to promote interactive and kinesthetic learning.
Cell phones should be allowed in school because they can further students ability to learn and/or stay focused. Audrey Watters wrote, “And that’s probably one of the most important observations: Many students already carry a powerful computing device in their pockets, while oftentimes much of the technology hardware at schools is woefully out-of-date.” This is a major reason why cell phones should be allowed in school because in some schools that do not have the most updated technology there students do on their phones. By allowing cell phones in school, students have access to these powerful devices that can be utilized for free while increasing classroom resources. Watters continued to write, “Schools may find they have equipped student
Are you always on your phone? Either Snapchatting, on Instagram, scrolling through your twitter feed? It can be pretty temping to pick up your phone and do this stuff in class but you can use them in good ways in school. George Washington Middle School currently has cell phones banned in class. Although most teachers think that cell phones are a distraction, cell phones should be allowed in class because students feel anxious without their phones, there are many educational uses, and allowing phones is more convenient.
Hmm, phones in the classroom! What do you think? That is a debate between billions of people in the world today. Children all over the world have phones, but they can not have them out during school hours. Cell phones are important to so many kids and adults. These devices have been around for so long, and many people can not live without them. All around the school campus, students are miserable without their phones. In the world today, about three-fourths of the U.S. population have phones. A cell phone is an important thing to some people. Without cell phones, kids wouldn't have access to their social media accounts like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. So take this into consideration, even if it is in one class, students should be allowed to get on their cell phones during school hours.
teenagers in school, and it resulted in various school administrators debating whether or not they
Although some people think that if phones are allowed in school the students will play games and text each other during class. They also would find it as a distraction to the students that don’t have phones. Though it would be pretty hard for students to play games and text each other if the teachers are monitoring their class to make sure that the students are doing what they're supposed to do.
We often associate the use cell phones while attending school as a huge distraction and something that should be forbidden by all schools.
Should teachers let students have their phone in class? Many don't, currently most teachers do not let students use their devices during class time. In addition Cell Phones have become increasingly popular. According to the Huffington post “Millions more will join the ranks of smartphone users in the years ahead, as the remainder of the 92 percent of American adults who own cell phones upgrade their devices” this article illustrates that many people own cell phones and many more will soon. And most teachers view them as a distraction to the learning environment. However that is incorrect, Cell phones should be allowed in class because they are educational, can be used as tools, and in that could improve their learning. The teachers should let students use their cellphones during class because they can use it for a resource, an emergency, and for overall happiness.
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
Phones can be a distraction in class for social media reasons but phones can also help with any school references. Phones should be allowed in schools / classes
Although cell phones could be distracting in class, they should be allowed because they have many benefits in education, activity on them can be controlled, and they also provide benefits to the teachers of the classrooms.
Every school system always makes a big deal over students using cellphones in class. We always see teachers on their cell phones during the school day and don’t get any repercussion. I agree that students should be allowed during class to have usage of their cell phones. Maybe the student was doing some work from another class that they missed or taking notes on something that’s important for the lesson they had from another class. School systems should ease up on how strict the policy is and allow students to use cell phones during the school day. Students could have ways to allow them to be interactive and participate on the lesson in class from their phones. Students can have different ways to research topics for a report or presentation that they were given. Students might have an emergency or no way to get home and need to call an adult to assist them. There are many ways that cell phones in school are beneficial but let’s sum it down to three reasons.
