PER REPORTER: The aunt and uncle have custody of Camel. There are concerns that Camel is not in school. They said he was being home schooled. Camel said he hasn't seen a book or done testing in the past 2 years. Camel graduated middle school when he was 12 or 13 years old. He was a year behind. Once he was taken out of middle school after graduating, the aunt hasn't done anything since she took him out. The aunt said she was home schooling him because he was slow and since he was slow and behind, school wouldn't be able to graduate him. She said it was better for him to be home schooled. Imagine going to school one day and finding out that your dad is holding your teacher hostage. That’s exactly what happened to one first-grader after her dad stormed into her elementary school and locked himself in a classroom with a teacher.
James is a second grade African-American student who attends school in an urban community he struggles with keeping his schoolwork and homework organized. His teacher reports he has problems listening to instructions in class and constantly interrupts classroom lessons. His parents and his teacher both reports he has behavior problems and has problems playing with children in his age group. His mother at first believed his behavior was typical for a boy, however she has expressed concerned with his behaviors because constantly fidgets and moves about. His mother is also concerned with his social skills because he has only two friends and she states when in public with her so, he lacks appropriate social skills, he runs about and climbs on objects such as handrails all the time. According to school records his teacher last year referred him several times to the school counselor for failure to remain in his seat and disturbing the learning environment, his 2nd grade teacher is reporting the problems. Due to his inability to stay focused and organized, James grades are fair but could be much better if he completed assignments on time and actively participated in all classroom activities. His teacher has referred James to the school counselor for help with his behavior and academics.
On the morning of 2-24-16, the reporter saw Kionata on Capital Street, walking to school by himself. It was raining and cold outside (he had on a thin jacket). There was no crossing guard, and he may have walked 2-3 miles from his home. The reporter stopped to offer him a ride to school, and told him not to ever get in a car with a stranger. The reporter states that the situations could have been worst if it was a 'real stranger'. School staffs told the reporter that Kionata is always late for school, but his brother is always on time. They both are not bus riders, and the school is close to the home. The reporter states at their age, they should be supervised on their way to school. Nasir stated he like science, because the teacher is nice to him and he understands the class and do very well on the exams. Mom stated, being non-compliant, aggression, making threats running away when he is angry, fighting, anger outburst and being disobedient. Mom stated that if Nasir continues with his aggression and anger outburst in the home she will seek out of home placement for him. Mom stated that Nasir behavior cusses her to feel depress, frustrated and worried all the time. Mom stated at least 4 time a week. Mom stated, being told wat to do, being punished, argument with his siblings, and privileges taken away. Mom stated it can last for half an hour or longer. Mom stated that Nasir has an IEP plan and behavioral plan in place at school. Mom stated that Nasir gets suspended if he fights at school and IIS, if he is disrespectful towards the teachers. The child came to school on 8/24/17, with a red, darken bruise on the left side of her nose going across her face. The child was a blue compact that she had to put on her face. She said her mom (Erica) told her to tell someone to put it in the freezer. The child told the secretory (Ms. Gant) that a boy did not outside. Later, the child told the reporter that her mom whooped her last night, 8/23/17. She said the belt hit her in the face while she was moving. The child said mom whooped her because her sister kept coming in the room turning the light on and off. Reporter believes the story is not adding up. The child has not history of pass abuse. Unknown if there is any drug use in the home. Reporter stated the child’s dress did not look clean
REPORTER: The reporter/Counselor (Marilyn) called with concerns for the victim, Jerrik. The reporter said the victim came to school late today (8/28/2015), but he was fine. According to Marilyn, the victim was messing with his arms and the teacher (Tabitha) asked the child “what was wrong”, and the victim had bruises on both of his upper arms. The bruises “looked like finger prints” (were not dark marks). After the victim showed the teacher his arms, he then said “look” and “pulled up his shirt, “there were two big bandages covering up the burn marks” in the middle of his back. The teacher asked the victim what happen and he said “I got my butt whooped”. At 11:24am on 8/28/2015, the reporter was called back, and she said the child stated that
Tommy, an agitated 14-year-old high school student in Oakland, California was in the hallway cursing out his teacher at the top of his lungs. A few minutes earlier, in the classroom, he’d called the teacher a derogatory name after she twice asked him to remove his head from the desk and sit up straight. Eric Butler, the school coordinator for Restorative Justice (RJ) for Oakland Youth heard the commotion and rushed to the scene. The principle also heard it and rushed to address the issue. Though Butler tried to engage the young man in conversation, Tommy was in an uproar and would not respond. He even tried to hit Butler but missed. Immediately the principle lividly called for security while disclosing to Tommy he would be suspended.
On 04/22/16, Ken'Dell came to school with a red scratch mark on his face. The reporter stated that the child isnt complaining of pain or needs any medical treatment. According to the reporter, Ken'Dell told her the scratch on his face came from running into a pole. According to the reporter, the child told he ran into a pole while chasing his baby brother, that chased a cat. The reporter stated that the children were not properly supervised and was outside the home alone. Ms. Pendleton stated there are not any prior concerns and the child's basic needs are being met. Ms. Pendelton stated her primary concern is the proper supervision.
She reported that her mother changed, she started to “hit and yell”. Thekli stated when she was in the fourth grade, things got even worse. She indicated in the middle of fourth grade, her mother was hitting her and going “crazy”, Thekli stated that her mother was not “ok.” Thekli reported that she was supposed to do her own homework but her mother started doing her homework. The child reported that her mother would kick doors to get into our room to hit us more. Thekli reported that we locked the doors and mom took a knife to open the door. Every single day in fourth grade, mom began to hit her on the backside, but not hard (a pat). Thekli indicated that her mother did not hit her brother as much. R/s it was reported that on last night Jacob’s (16) stepfather had beaten him on the head, arms, and legs with a belt. R/s the stepfather pushed Jacob onto the table. R/s Jacob has marks and bruises on his head, arms, and legs. R/s LE has been notified and they have pictures of the Jacob’s injuries. R/s reportedly Jacob was beaten because he used the computer incorrectly. R/s Gabriel (11) is in the home. R/s the stepfather was referred to as Scooter. R/s the mother Jerri is trying to protect the child. R/s reportedly Scooter has criminal charges for domestic violence and he has an issue with drug abuse.
His father, Keith, is very tall (about 5’11), he has dark brown hair, he wears baseball caps all the time, and wears athletic clothes everywhere he goes, even to church. He is a very funny person and can make anyone laugh and smile. He wants the best for his family and will do anything to help them out. One day, he gets a call from his son’s school in Owasso, Oklahoma saying that he was sent to the principle’s office for hitting and calling other students names. Keith was very shocked at this because Braedon always does so well in school. He makes terrific grades and is in advanced reading and math classes for his age, since he is only in second grade.
On 04-14-2016, at approximately 1:30 pm Ricky Lewis Bush was charged with Communicating a Threat towards a staff member while in the 400 building. Ricky Lewis Bush had bumped into Mrs. Springs while in the 400 building hallway. Mrs. Springs stated that Ricky has bumped into her previously in the hallway and she simply redirected him. Today around 1:30 pm Ricky Lewis Bush stated that “if Mrs. Springs come out of the classroom, that he was going to smack her Ass,” in the present of the Dean of Students and SRO Richardson. The incident occurred on yesterday, Wednesday August 19,2015. Javion got into trouble at school on yesterday. His mother was informed of him not doing his school work and getting out of his seat at school. Javion entered the counselors office with Mrs. Sorenson. Mrs. Sorenson informed me that his teacher Mrs. Henderson told her that he had an issue. I sat and spoke with Javion who was very opened about what had taken place. The child has an abrasion/bruise to his head, with extremities (i.e., arms, legs, hands, feet, fingers, toes). He has a big round ref marks around his left eye and left side of face, along with bruising and swelling on his left thigh. Javion told me that his daddy put some alcohol on the bruise on his face. Today a teacher caught Gavin in the Kindergartners' backpacks. I am not sure if he took anything. It was during the time after specials and before he got on the bus. Also today he go on check from Mrs. Litz. for talking out of turn. In my class we had no problems, but during our reading time at the end of the day he would not read.
Joshua Stern was observed on November 2, 2016 during his six block drama class. There were 22 students 15 girls and 7 boys. There was one regular male teacher. The students were preparing for a play that they will be performing for the elderly. The teacher reminded the students what they will be working on today and instructed the students to go over to the auditorium. While the students were walking over to the auditorium, Joshua walked into class. Another student informed Joshua that they were going into the auditorium and to get this belongs and come over. Joshua followed his directions. Joshua noticed me in the back of the class and asked me if I was a substitute teacher. I told him that I’m a school social worker, working with the child
