In this book a boy named Haroon and a boy named Jay get a point of view. Jay is white, kind of a jock, and on the football team. Haroon is brown, smart and on the Reach for the Top team(which is like a team that answers trivia and competes with other schools). It all starts off when the school goes on a lockdown where police are rushing in the school with dogs and bombarding the hallways. Jay and his friends Kevin and Steve go on the rooftop of the school thinking it is just a regular drill, but then they look down and see a bunch of police cars and they see police that look like swat teams. They see down that the police has taken 2 brown kids with handcuffs. When they go back down the principal makes an announcement telling all students to leave the building immediately.
The book That was Then, This Is Now is about to really good friends Bryon and Mark starting to go their separate ways. Bryon was a 16 year old hustler who lived in a hood. His mother was poor and she had adopted his best friend Mark. Mark was an illegitimate who was adopted by new parents that got in a drunken fight and killed each other. Mark was a thief, and he always got away with everything that he possibly could do. Teen kids in there element who thought they could rule the world, everything was theirs and that nothing could possibly go wrong. They did everything bad together smoke, drink, jump kids for their money, steal, skip school, take drugs and get into gang brawls.
Sigurd is more heroic then Gunnar because Sigurd was able to defeat a dragon. Also he accomplished the task of riding through the fire wall surrounding Brunhild’s castle when Gunnar couldn’t do it. Most of Gunnar’s heroic acts were from winning battles in wars. Gunnar would have been heroic like Sigurd if he had accomplished Sigurd’s deeds. This is because being able to ride through a wall of flames and killing a dragon are more impressive heroic acts then winning war battles.
Characters and Background: I just got in reading this book called variant by Robison wells with a total of 373 pages. This book is about a boy named Benson Fisher Who gets enrolled into a new school program called Maxfield Academy. This is a very suspicious school to Benson because it has a barbed wire fence that surrounds the entire school. There are no teachers or adults in the building at all, and There are three gangs called Variant, Havoc, and the Society, but the thing that makes suspense in the most suspicious, is the fact that everyone seems to be okay with this. Out of the three gangs that are at the school, Benson decided to be a Variant also known as the “V’s”. The V's are the smallest gang That consists of only 18 people. The largest gang is the Society. The Society are
For this weeks journal I am reading "Harris and Me" by Gary Paulson. This excellent book starts off explaining the narrators (who goes by "me") situation. He has been raised by an angry, drunk mother and father. Finally CPS steps in and he is bounced back and forth from his relatives homes. The next relative he goes to live with is his distant cousins, the Larson's. The Larson's are what some people would call full blooded rednecks. The Larson's have a little bit of everything on their farm. Chickens, horses, cows, pigs are just to name a few. His cousin Harris is one of the messiest, craziest people he has ever met. Every time Harris lets a cuss word roll out of his mouth his fourteen year old sister Glennis gives him a licking for it. On the first morning he is on the farm Harris wakes him up before the sun has even risen and he's awful upset until he realizes that that's how things work on the farm. On his second day on the Larson farm he meets the dirty farm hand, Louie. Louie is the headrest working man he has ever seen. At dinner that night Louie had his food engulfed before the narrator could say "let's eat." The narrator and Harris are always getting into mischief. One day they got attacked by a rooster named Ernie. Ernie was the meanest thing you'd ever meet. Harris blamed his cousin that they got jumped. Harris said he would have he rooster had he not been distracted. Another day the narrator gets knocked out by Vivian the cow. After he woke from
After reading 80 pages of, “Skud,” by Dennis Foon, I felt motivated by the actions and determination shown by the main characters of the story, especially Andy. In the book, all the characters had a goal or objective and worked hard to reach that goal. Although most people would not advise someone to center their life around one certain thing, I think that when one finds a purpose or objective in life they should always do their best to reach this goal regardless of what others say or thinks of it. In the book, Andy dream was to become a popular actor.Although the possibility of getting cast is low and although he was hurt and unwell, Andy still went to the audition because of that small possibility. After reading about this, I felt determined and motivated by actions like this.

Have you ever been so into a book you couldn't put it down? Well, if you enjoy a good book I suggest The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. The Outsiders starts in a small town, in this town there were two gangs the socs and the greasers. The socs were rich and lived on the north side, they all had nice cars and lots of money. On the other hand there was the greasers, they weren't as rich as the socs and didn't have as nice of cars, or houses, or even clothes.”Greasers will still be greasers and Socs will still be Socs. Sometimes I think it’s the ones in the middle that are really the lucky stiffs”(Hinton, ch. 7) Gangs are a huge problem in the US and in this book it shows it.

Whether they are good or bad, many influential individuals interfere in the involvement of adolescents with gangs. However, not all kids willingly join gangs or conduct in crime. Some join by force through a strong negative influence, or some join, simply because there is nothing else to engage in. Myers elaborates on gang culture by creating preteens and teenage characters, so the young readers can relate and understand. The novel introduces Jamal, a twelve-year old boy whose older brother Randy is in jail. To pay for his appeal, Randy
This novel was set during the post war period, this was a time when independence and rebelling against parents and law was more important than doing the right thing, during these times of independence, and teenagers needed friendship more than anything else.
The genre of this book is a realistic fiction novel featuring a couple as the main characters, Motown is the male who is named after the famous African American recording company and Didi is the female who was described as highly intelligent and very mature for her age. Motown lived in the bad part of Harlem in a burned out, abandoned building and searches for jobs during the days and worked out his muscles at night. Didi on the other hand, lived in a middle class neighborhood in Harlem and dreams of attending college.
It was a normal day in the castle of Goranson. All the townspeople were tending to their work when an explosion made a loud sound that ran throughout the castle. Townspeople stood there shocked as the castle stood in silence. After the seconds of silence another loud explosion shook the castle followed by arrows flying throughout the castle and vikings screaming as they charge in. Everyone ran to get to safety and the vikings never followed. They only had one mission, to get the king and destroy the castle. When all the noise had stopped and all the screams were silenced the townspeople went to look outside to see that the castle was all burnt down. One farmer had said “Quick find the king”. They all rushed into various buildings only to find the king was not there.
