The Biased Side of Science: Creationism vs. Evolutionism Science is the process of perceiving the natural world around us and drawing conclusions from our observations through the scientific method. These conclusions can develop into solid facts such as the laws of quantum physics and thermodynamics. Cosmologists work in a branch of the scientific field called “cosmology”, which is the study of the universe and how it began. Once one approaches the concept of cosmology, the science becomes split into two main groups: creationism and evolutionism. Creationism and evolutionism have similarities and differences as individual schools of thought. These two belief systems typically look at scientific evidence, presented through observations of the world around us, and interpret these facts into an explanation to support their theories on the origin of the universe and life. “…Creationists and evolutionists agree on the raw facts, but not what those facts mean” (Upchurch, 2016), therefore, there are, unpredictably, several similarities in their beliefs. Creation and evolution are able to be compared and contrasted through their views on the supercontinent, survival of the fittest, origin of species, and the earth’s age. Upon observing South America’s eastern coast and Africa’s western coast, one would declare that the two seem to be able to fit together “just like pieces of a giant jigsaw puzzle” (Thaver, 2013).
