Researchers concluded that the absence of proper oxygen and deep rest lead to IBS and a variety of other debilitating conditions. research results are showing that most likely sleep interruption brings on IBS symptoms " rather than the other way around. Once particular sleep study included IBS patients and control patients. They shared no differences in the amount of time dedicated to sleep or the REM (rapid eye movement)
Changes in the environment, such as moving to a new home or having to be
“The Seems The Glitch in Sleep” by John Hulme and Michael Wexler. I think the main message is if you don’t solve the problem quick enough, the problem will get bigger. I think this because the the glitch is getting worse, if Becker doesn’t do something, the glitch will get worse. In the story, Becker had a very bad nightmare. It was made by three giant bed bugs torturing him. The glitch was moving very fast. After that there was the ripple effect, it is when the world have strange and very bad things happen. Then Becker got tortured by the bed again but this time his assistant Simly, helped. Then the bed bugs, Becker, and Simly fell down to the floor below.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common gastrointestinal conditions. IBS is a chronic disorder characterized by abdominal pain and alteration of bowel function without an organic cause. It is more common in younger people, and more frequently occurs to women. IBS is seen in patients under the age of 45 (Mayo Clinic, 2018). The disruption of bowel function may originate from the GI tract or central nervous system. Stress does not cause IBS, but it can trigger symptoms or make symptoms worse (IFFGD,2016).
At such a wide age range, it is very common for a person to get IBS because it is mainly caused by certain dietary restrictions and stress. Up to 50% of people with IBS have psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression (Erlich, 2014). Although IBS physically causes discomfort, much of this could be because of mental health. Some of the first signs of IBS are cramping, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. If anyone encounters such symptoms, treatments such as previously mentioned medications and medical advice are necessary. However, prevention is always the best way to go which involves changing one’s diet by adding fiber, avoiding stimulants, reducing anxiety, getting regular exercise, seeking counseling if necessary, and living a healthy
According to Kennedy, we blame technology for ruining our sleep. She says that we believe that phones and laptops will scramble our sleep, even though the internet is becoming the place for insomniacs to gather together and figure out what works, and to share insights and help on another. She says now many health professions recommend that we banish all digital devices from our bedrooms. Telling us that people like her who suffer from this disease are to stay from technology or eat healthy when none of that really is any type of solution. She is trying to say that she found something that can help many others in her same situation. She says that when we’re wandering in the wilderness of thought, sometimes we just need to feel that someone,
Another subject that we dicussed is about sleep. Sleep is very important for our body function. We look at how the lack of sleep can be harmful and may cause some sleep related diseases. I want to remember this subject because i have a very bad sleeping subject and i didnt realize that it could be so harmful for me.
Even though IBS has, no known cause physicians believe that IBS may be intensified by certain internal and external
Researchers are not certain of the causes of IBS. However some scientists believe that people with IBS tend to be oversensitive to the digestive nerve signals. This means mild indigestion that is hardly noticeable in most people becomes distressing abdominal pain in those with IBS.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome chronic illness affecting the large intestine also known as the colon, including the cecum, ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid colon, rectum and anal area. “IBS is a functional gastrointestinal disorder, meaning symptoms are caused by changes in how the GI tract works. The muscular contraction of food along the intestinal pathway is abnormal. Food stimulated a rhythmic contraction known as peristalsis in the intestine down to the rectum. During the contraction, nutrient and water are partially digested. The end product of the digestion (waste) is stored in the rectum and later expelled through the anus. There are several factors to express the cause and symptoms
This paper explores five different sources on the changes in sleep over the adults' lifespan. There are multiple explanations as to the changes in sleep from infancy to the older adult, and through a series of conducted experiments a further explanation is given. Judd (2010) explores pediatric sleep issues that impact children from infancy to teen years. Following Judd's claims, Wrzus, Wagner, and Riediger (2014) correlate night-to-night sleep variations and the affective well-being among adolescents and adults. Wilckens, Woo, Kirk, Erickson, and Wheeler (2014) study the importance of sleep in young adults through multiple cognitive tasks. Millman (2012) points out that at a later age, sleep becomes fragmented due to drop in slow wave sleep. To sum it up, English (n.d.) summarizes the sleep changes throughout life. Therefore, this research focuses on the different changes within the adults' sleep stages.
Sleep fragmentation or interruption is a result of many common disorders such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Rats in this experiment are wakened every two minutes by turning on a slow-moving treadmill for thirty seconds. As seen in this experiment, while sleep fragmentation does not affect NREM sleep, it interrupts normal sleep by reducing REM sleep, and thus its respective restoring benefits. Spatial mapping by the hippocampus will be tested after 24-hour periods of sleep interruption by observing rats in the Morris water maze.
This study was conducted with 157 patients between the ages of 18 and 65 years old that had been diagnosed with IBS. These patients also could not be taking probiotics already or else the data would be skewed. The study began with a questionnaire in which the patients gave the current status of their IBS and the symptoms that they were experiencing. A stool sample was also collected to create a base-line for future testing. At
The second intervention I applied to my behavior was the decrease in active technology use before bed. Based on the literature “The Sleep and Technology Use of Americans: Findings from the National Sleep Foundation’s 2011 Sleep in American Poll.” Gradisar, Michael; Wolfson, Amy R; Harvey, Allison G; Hale, Lauren; Rosenberg, Russell; Czeisler, Charles A (2013) conducted a study by randomly surveying 1508 people between the ages of 13-64. They were asked 47 questions on technology use and what time they fall asleep over the course of two weeks. They found that people over the age of 30 were more likely to watch T.V. and people under the age of 30 were more likely to use their cell phones. The results showed that the use of cell phones before
Irritable bowel syndromes also known as IBS is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that causes inflammation in the digestive tract (FACOEP, J. P. (n.d.)). The reasons why IBS develops are not clear. It can occur after an infection of the intestines (Irritable bowel syndrome. (n.d.)). This is called post infectious IBS. The symptoms and signs of IBS includes abdominal cramping, pain, bloating, gassiness, and alternating periods of diarrhea and constipation, and sometimes mucus in the stool (FACOEP, J. P. (n.d.)) IBS can occur at any age. Often, it begins in the teen years or early adulthood. It is twice as common in women as in men (Irritable bowel syndrome. (n.d.)).
Some of the factors that contribute to the irregular patterns of sleeping are solely attributed to what I do during the daytime. Especially once I overwork myself, may a play a lot during the day, there is a likely hood that I suffer
