218,390 dollars, the staggering amount of money raised my sophomore and junior year through SMAC. SMAC, or Stillwater Makes A Change, is an annual week long charitable fundraiser led by Stillwater high school students. Being a part of SMAC, through things as simple as constructing decorations, and attending events to helping organize a color run in my senior year, has given me an appreciation and awareness of the impact that everyday people can have on their communities and people in need. It is this appreciation and awareness that drives me to change the world for the better, specifically in a way that reflects my passions and talents. When I tell people I am aspiring to be an environmental engineer the most common reaction, aside from a cringe worthy joke about me being a hippy, is a belief that I am determined to save the oceans, the rainforests, the world. However, while it is true I appreciate nature and definitely do not want to see unnecessary harm done to the environment. I am not worried about the Earth. Planet Earth has been around a lot longer than the human race, and will be around a lot longer once we’re gone. To think that the Earth is dependent on the human race is foolish, the human race is dependent on the Earth. Which is why I seek to use a University of Tulsa education to help impoverished people in an …show more content…
Unfortunately many people give up on the desire, or it takes a backseat to more mundane things such as bills and overloaded schedules. However, I believe that I can change the world, and I cannot think of a better school to prepare me for this monumental challenge than the University of
If selected for admission, I plan to take advantage of IMSA’s unique learning opportunities by working diligently in all of my classes, joining clubs and teams to learn from my peers, and participating in Student Inquiry and Research to satisfy my curiosity and allow for more independent work. I come from a small high school with approximately one hundred students per class. Funding is a constant problem and learning opportunities are thus very limited. I’ve attempted to take as many science and math classes as possible, as well as world history, foreign language, and an advanced English course, but I still do not feel challenged. My school has done what it can to enhance my learning experience, but my math and science classes aren’t quite
I attended Braden River High school until I heard about the opportunity to participate in the dual enrollment program at SCF. I have always been motivated in school, but was ready for a new challenge. I started at State College of Florida my senior year of high school as a dual enrollment student. During my first semester, I took thirteen credit hours and earned a 4.0. The second semester I increased to fourteen credits and again earned a 4.0. By May I had earned twenty six college credits and retained a 4.0 Grade point average. I have always had a passion for school, so there was no chance that I wanted to take a summer break. In May, I enrolled as a non-degree seeking student so that I could continue going to State College of Florida until I received my high school transcripts. This summer I have earned another fourteen college credits and so far have maintained my 4.0 grade point average. I plan to attend State College of Florida in the fall and spring to earn my AA degree and then transfer to either University of Florida or Florida Atlantic University. I want to study microbiology and cell
Prior to high school, my uncle was my chemistry teacher. As a food scientist, he was to me a great inventor who knew everything about the magic of taste, texture, and aroma; I still remember his lecture on “good” chocolate and how cocoa butter—solid at room temperature—melts readily in our mouths. Raised on an early appreciation for the power of applied science, I am now driven toward chemical science by a desire to uncover solutions to challenges in the modern world.
I want to evoke change in the world. Enrolling in Medical Anthropology in my last year opened my eyes to how pervasive structural violence is globally and how it disproportionally affects the health of the most vulnerable people in society. Specifically, I was inspired by Paul Farmer, a physician/anthropologist who went to great lengths to provide medical care to people of the third world and raise awareness for countless human rights violations. I have aspirations of one day working for the WHO in order to put into fruition plans that would benefit not only the country which I will reside and work in, but also humanity universally. My experience at a local Toronto hospital has enabled me to see what it really means to be a doctor. Being a doctor entails much more than assessing a patient and prescribing them medication. One must empathize with the plight of his/her patients.
What do working in a jail, knee surgery, and obtaining a local government job in Davidson County have in common? For me, each has played a role in the journey of my career. My journey has led me to a juncture, where in order to reach my potential, I plan to pursue an advanced degree. After outlining my career to date, I will explain my rationale behind the pursuit of an MPA degree, and discuss why Appalachian State’s program, specifically, appeals to me.
There are many rewards with working with children. SWAE is a group of selected mentors that guide children during the Christmas time. There are many reasons on why I want to be a mentor and why I think I should be accepted to be a mentor.
I was solicited for an SMT position by CVS fall of 2015. December 2015 I left my general manager position making more money to train and become one of 8900+ as a CVS store manager, however I did not actually start until February 2016 because of the transition from SMT to SMIT program. It was at the advice of my former D.M. David Banks to become a shift/Rx versus remain an SMT and could be forced to run a store and if not prepared I could lose my job. Looking back I wish I kept my position. I believe in myself enough to know that it would not take me two years to acquire the knowledge it takes to run a store and did not sign up to be one of 1,000,000,000 shifts. My former manager Dorothy Ingram 7351 was also my former district’s training
My interest in SCORE program stems from the desire to learn. I do not have any experience with clinical research, therefore, I am eager to both learn and gain experience. I feel that the SCORE program is a great opportunity to participate in research. I believe that clinical research is an essential step that leads to medical discoveries that helps make our lives better. I want to help make lives better through clinical research.
The prediction I made in the beginning of this assignment was not so different from the results at the end. The types which I thought I resembled the most resulted in a code of SEA. However, the results from the self-directed search resulted in one difference; the search gave me SEI. Since I was coded with an SEI, the five occupations which drew me in the most were a financial institution president, political scientist, nurse head, school principal, and psychologist. Overall, my self-rating assessment matched the results of the vocational assessment almost perfectly.
Since I was a child, I would marvel at the night sky- separating stars, planets, galaxies, and even the once-in-a-while helicopter from each other. Space had fascinated my soul, which subjects are rarely able to do in one’s life. The love I have for the universe came from a place within that I was never able to identify, that is, until I found a way to capture my need to learn more, through the NASA SEES Summer Internship.
Hi! I am Lawrence Clark, and I’m a student here at CCA. This is my 9th year in Connections Academy, and from all these years with the school, I got to know everything about the cirriculums and information about the school. CCA gives me a chance to work and communicate with teachers and classmates. This school gives me an opportunity for an improved education, and a higher amount of knowledge. My goals to accomplish includes getting into a great college, and following my career and what it takes to reach it.
My early research experience exposed me to science and the power of model systems to study fundamental cellular processes. However, my experience in the MMI ScM program was a turning point in my life: it inspired a passion for science and made me realize that I could be a scientist. Immediately after I joined the program, I knew that the Hardwick laboratory was a perfect fit for me. There, I worked on a yeast project that focused on the genome-wide consequences of evolving secondary mutations, whereby these secondary mutations affect nutrient responses and/or heat-stress-induced cell death. Thus, mutation of any single gene may cause a genomic imbalance, with consequences sufficient to drive adaptive genetic changes. The findings from this
I have chosen this major because health and physical activity is something that is very important to me. When I started my career at SPU, I began on a path towards a General Biology degree, but I quickly realized that this was not what I wanted. What I was most passionate about was the human body and how it could best preform, something that Exercise Science will help me to
I decided to major in environmental science because I thought it would be an easy program to achieve high grades in to eventually attend medical school. Unfortunately, I was only merely fascinated by global warming and had no passion attached to the environment itself as I barely even recycled in my own home; however, I gave off the illusion that I cared about climate change and making an environmental difference.
My parents raised me with a strong sense of kindness, independence, and work ethic that has guided me through academics and service. In my home, you succeed in academics by studying hard and doing what you can to get good grades- whether that be extra credit, tutoring, or retaking tests if the teacher allows it. At the same time, I was taught never to rely on other people to get opportunities for me or push me through- I had to want it. These values have shaped my choices both in education and extracurriculars.
