The research processes I used included websites, videos, online blogs and surveys with people who suffer from the disorder, professionals who treat people with the disorder and people who are surrounded by sufferers of the disorder, for example family members. The processes were all very effective as they provided new information and backed up information that I had already a basic knowledge of, for example, what the disorder is. The use of online blogs and videos and also websites were used to refine my topic and helped me discover the development of refinement of my question. The research outcome was successful; the information was all relevant in answering the question and is important for reader’s knowledge and for the awareness of the …show more content…
It also benefited me as I was directed to other websites and a relevant file that was all about social anxiety including information about the disorder. As a result, it supported my key finding because it was reliable information. Video blogs such as YouTube blogs were appropriate for my question as the YouTubers explained their battle with social anxiety. This really helped as they explained how they came to know they developed social anxiety which assisted me with extremely credible information and primary sources. Videos that had specific information about the disorder such as the video by Cristen from HowStuffWorks “Shy vs Social anxiety” has references along the bottom of the video that were used which increased my reliability as it directed me to new sources that were highly beneficial. Videos and blogs are two sources that highlighted information about the disorder that contributed to the development of social anxiety; they also raised questions about how others believe they developed the disorder.
E2. There were many challenges I undertook when researching. One was when I was undertaking surveys. I decided to email psychologists and therapists and survey them about what they have discovered when talking to social anxiety victims, I had discovered that there were in fact many professional and relevant therapists on the internet and

This benefited me by giving me more opportunities to find websites that were higher quality to add to my sources. I had come to find many online chat services on websites that provided information and facts about the disorder. I found many mental health online services, but chose only two that were the most reliable, credible and the source that helped me find the most information on their online service and also on their website. As a result I made the right decision as I found opportunities to talk to many professionals and survey them through online services that were available from early morning to late at night depending on the website. This benefited me as it was a reliable source that was very useful and provided me with more specific information that I intended to receive which supported my information and made my research more in depth as I gained more sources that were
In the field of mental health, professionals must be constantly looking for ways to help their patients. (Cozby & Bates 2012). When dealing with research, it allows us to explore valuable information that has been
It helped me to have a broader view in my field of competency and to find new ideas from people who shared their own.
The study of Social anxiety shows no clear causes for its variety of symptoms, but psychologists have been able to determined triggers and possible factors for its development. As psychologists continue to study social phobia, they have determined many possible causes. Since the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, psychologists have
Mental health services conducted on the Internet have been described as e-therapy, online counseling, e -mail therapy, Internet-based therapy, and similar terminology. Online therapy services may be provided as an adjunct to more traditional forms of mental health treatment, or may be initiated without any offline contact between the therapist and client. Currently, there are a variety of websites providing links and information regarding online therapy. As I was reading about benefits and risks in using internet as a source for
Write a three- to four-page article review in which you discuss methodological issues unique to psychological research and analyze basic applied psychological research relevant to the treatment of mental disorders. In your paper, you will discuss
Social anxiety is a prevalent and common disorder amongst society. Social anxiety disorder is expressed as a fear in public and social situations for an individual (Kashdan, Farmer, Adams, Mcknight, Ferssizidis, Nezelf 2013). A person with social anxiety fears that a social appearance, outcome, or situation will lead a to negative response to their surrounding audience (Kashdan, Farmer, Adams, Mcknight, Ferssizidis, Nezelf 2013). However there are numerous treatments for social anxiety. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most efficacious treatments that a patient may receive (Hambrick, Weeks, Harb, & Heimberg, 2003. Cognitive behavioral therapy has numerous techniques that can be used on patients. The result of using cognitive
On December 26, 2017 an article made by Kaiser Health News was published on Newsela about how Social Media could have mental health benefits for people who use it. One day Anna, (Who asked to be Identified by a different name) broke up with her boyfriend at 1:30 a.m.. It was too late to call her therapist and too late to stop by her friend's house. She turned to Social Media to help her and asked if there was anybody who she could call until she felt better. Almost immediately, she got support from her friends and they helped her feel better.
The two data sources that I’m going to be using is a Youtube video along with its comments. The issues that I will be looking at is what do correctional facilities do with inmates with mental health disorders and what do they do to prevent them from becoming a revolving door (Am J Psychiatry 2009.) Why this issue is so important to me is because of many reasons. I have personal experience in working with mental health from working with children with mental health diagnosis and working with adults with multiple mental health diagnosis. To me it was not hard to choose a topic because mental health services are not the top priority in the criminal justice system and around the entire country
For the Unit 9 Assignment I will be creating a fictitious case (client) within the concentration of Behavior Analysis. I will include client demographics, reasons for seeking out service, intervention or treatment goals for the client, a theory that can relate to the client’s case, methods of interventions, any cultural issues, and any use of contemporary technology that will be used. I decided to revolve my case study around social anxiety (or a social phobia). It will focus on how a person’s thoughts and beliefs can intensify an anxiety/phobia. If a person truly believes that he/she will not do well in a certain situation, those thoughts and feelings can turn that into a reality. It is up to the professionals to change these beliefs and negative emotions.
The video was very interesting from the standpoint that mental illness has such a strong stigma. Fear of mental illness is shared both with those seeking treatment and those in the community. Mental illness in America is estimated to cost one hundred thirteen billion dollars, due to lost productivity, illness, and social costs. Persons with schizophrenia on average have a twenty five year shorter lifespan than does who do not. One reason for a shorter lifespan is that medical insurance does not cover or is inadequate to treat those with mental illness. Some do not have any medical insurance at all. Mental illness in the United States cost an estimated one hundred and thirteen billion dollars due to lost productivity, illness, and social costs.
After watching the video this week, I learned that one of the signs of a child who may develop into a psychopath is their inability to make eye contact. As well as the inability to understand emotions, or to learn from their mistakes. The process to help them not become criminals, and reduce their psychopath tendencies would include a lot of time showing positive reinforcement to help them understand keeping eye contact and understanding emotions (Catalyst, 2012). I would try by making sure I spent time every day alone with the child who was showing signs. I would watch them to see what made them happy. This would most likely be the type of games or books they enjoyed reading. I would then reward them and make them feel happy in a safe
Among all anxiety problems, social anxiety disorder is most common anxiety issue and third most common problem in all mental complications (American Psychiatric Association, 2000; Hofmann & Bogels, 2006). SAD is a mental disorder which has a tendency to become chronic and badly disturbs normal functions of life if not diagnosed and treated in time (Beesdo-Baum, et al., 2012; Garcia-Lopez, Piqueras, Diaz-Castela, & Ingles, 2008). It is also among the most prevailing mental disorders and is described in Criterion A of DSM-V as “Marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situations in which the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others. Examples include social interactions (e.g., having a conversation, meeting unfamiliar people), being observed (e.g., eating or drinking), and performing in front of others (e.g., giving a speech)” (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). A specific amount of anxiety is always anticipated socially and helps an individual managing future threats (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). But having social anxiety means that anxiety is too much for normal functioning during social situations and often interferes with
Social Anxiety Disorder or social phobia, is the third largest mental health care problem in the world. (Stein, 2010) National statistical surveys carried out in 2002 in the United Kingdom suggest that the prevalence rates for social phobias among young people in the UK were around 4%. (National Statistics, 2002)
The Social anxiety Association classifies social anxiety as the fear of interacting with other and social situations. Social anxiety causes fear and anxiety in most if not all aspects of ones lives. Social anxiety is the fear of being negatively judge or evaluated by others. It is a chronic disease that it does not go away on its own, only direct cognitive-behavioral therapy can help people overcome their social anxiety. There are a few situations that can trigger social anxiety such as being introduced to
Social anxiety is “a feeling of discomfort, fear, or worry that is centered on our interactions with other people and involves a concern with being judged negatively, evaluated, or looked down upon by others” (Social Anxiety Support, 2014). Social anxiety can affect anyone. Individuals with social anxiety tend to prefer to keep to themselves because they are afraid others will judge them negatively and have a hard time interacting socially.
