At UT, I have had the privilege of serving on the officer board of the Freshman Business Association for 2 years. My freshman year, I served as the Social Chair, and I am currently serving as the Social Director. This has been a great experience for me because I have been able to hear from students and implement their opinions into this club. As Social Director, I am in charge of planning all outside events and celebrations for members. This involves coordinating with the Financial Director, figuring out what events will have a good turnout, and organizing rides for the members to get to and from the events. I enjoy being able to plan these events and give members a break from campus. Although I am specifically in charge of the social events,
Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in various clubs and organizations to help me become a leader in my community. At Auburn High School I took on the role of being a Publicist officer for National Technical Honors Society the first two consecutive years that it became a part of our school. I gained a lot of leadership experience through this club. Implementing a new organization is never easy and takes a lot of hard work and dedication from the leaders of the club. By being a part of a very helpful, dedicated and motivated team, we helped affiliate all the eligible members into the club and in turn helped introduce this new club to the school. As publicist my role in helping the club grow was crucial; I helped in publicizing the clubs various projects and involvement.
I have been involved with in our school and our community. In our school I was nominated for head of Prom committee this year. This position is quite stressful but I would not have it any other way. I enjoy being able to help and put my mark on it for our school. I brainstorm for fundraisers, activities, and small jobs our class can do to raise money. I also get to choose our revenue, theme for prom, and decorations. I do all of this within out tight budget. I
My junior year, when I became the President of The Hispanic Organization Promoting Education (HoPe) , my duties including, creating meetings, research information for meetings and being the main presenter for meetings. It wasn’t too bad, because it was the first year of HoPe being at my school, so most of the people there were invited by me. I did not feel awkward
I was the activities director and as activities director, I executed and supervised extracurricular activities, programs, and field trips. I created and designed promotional materials for all activities, wrote and published school newsletters, and managed social media content. Being an adolescent in this position, gave me a better insight on what the students desired and I, in turn, gave the students a greater experience in that area. I will take that drive, determination, and experience, and everything I learned from it and apply it to my schoolwork and my overall college
I have been a member of the St. Ambrose Student Government Association for the past two years, serving as Freshmen Class President and Sophomore Class President. My time on SGA has provided me with many opportunities to serve the entire student body, Freshmen through Seniors. In meetings, I have become confident voicing my perspectives and concerns with all members and the executive board. Being on the planning committee for several SGA activities, such as Bee the Difference Day, CommUNITY Day, Student
My many years of being involved in student council exposed me to discover my passion for event planning, as well as my area for improvement
As Senior Class Vice President, I serve the senior class by planning homecoming activities and using social media to keep our class
I am currently the Secretary of the Senior Class and the Secretary of the National Honor Society. I have represented my class through Student Council since freshman year, and I was elected as Junior Delegate of the National Honor Society last year. I put multiple hours into both of these activities each week, and I plan to put a lot of effort into the position I am applying for (Entertainment Executive Chair).
The first organization I joined was Sigma Psi Omega. I was Social co-chair during 2014-2015. In this role I helped the chair take minutes and roll for the committee in which we plan events such as the Full Moon Fever Dance. I then became Historian 2015-2016. In this role I take pictures and write down what we are currently doing for next generations to see. The second organization I joined is Student Government Association. I first started out as a Senator but was quickly inducted as Secretary in Spring 2014 during my first semester in Student Government and continued to be Secretary through Spring 2015. Then I became President 2015-2016. I have loved every second of it, and feel that I have made an impact on Student Government here at USAO. We are updating the constitution this year. We went to two conferences in the fall and will host a conference here at the university. We are also working on what we can for the people who view the legislation and make the decisions to take us more seriously. I have also attended Haven the whole time I have been at USAO as well, and just started craft crafting club towards the end of 2015.
During my high school career, I have immersed myself in numerous clubs and committees, empowering my development as an avid leader. I have been involved in my school’s poverty club for four years. Currently as club president, I direct meetings and the implementation of our events and fundraisers for local homeless youth. Additionally, I am co-president for the organization of Moscrop Human Library, a school-wide event that breaks down stereotypes through dialogue. Being involved in the planning since 2015, I was in charge of finding speakers, gaining sponsors, and more. This year, I will be leading the event, delegating tasks, coordinating volunteers, and more. Furthermore, I have been an active member in graduation council for two years and
The experience of working with such a great team will help me to further identify the value of my peers’ opinions and the importance of representing UTA well. I hope to cultivate appreciation of what my peers have to offer, no matter how different our background may be. Serving as The Bash Chair requires constant engagement and representation of UTA students. These circumstances will help me expand my understanding of our communities and culture. I would love to lead the process of traditionally outstanding, family-friendly events. In the past, I have worked on behalf of large organizations so I am familiar with constantly sending out emails and phone calls to gain potential sponsorship for school events. Additionally, I have exceptional time-management skills that I have cultivated over my career in public education which I can easily leverage into managing student volunteers and connecting with other student organizations. I enjoy connecting with people to accomplish a goal, no matter how time-demanding the task may
On campus, I am on the Executive Board of the Multicultural Business Association. I am also a member of the Student Government Association, serving as a Senator for the School of Business, a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Society. I also work as a Facility Aid in the Connelly Center at Villanova University.
“It is unequivocally clear that leaders are not like other people” (Kirkpatrick and Locke, 1991, as cited in Northouse, P. G., 2016, p.22). I have always thought that I was not like other people; I see the world through a different lens. This difference, which sets me apart from my peers, has sometimes restrained my progress; however, after studying my differences and seeing them as strengths, I can now focus on these strengths that make me a unique, passionate, progressive leader. In reflecting on my leadership skills, I will analyze the results of the leadership questionnaires, as presented in Peter Northouse’s book, Leadership:Theory and practice (7th ed.), connect those result strengths with the
This semester has been filled with informative information when speaking about our own social skill, but also other people’s social psychology as well, thus is why it will be very useful in future. Throughout the semester we studied everything from the introduction of social psychology, social influences, aggression in psychology, and interpersonal attraction and close relationships. A lot of the knowledge that I gained was not only from the “Social Psychology” textbook, but also in the videos and the reactions that we needed to come up with on a weekly basis. I like the idea of being able to watch the video to see if the experiment was successful or unsuccessful and commenting on it by giving my opinion if I agreed or not. For me,
As an educational leader, I have encountered several new and existing school policies. I never thought deeply about the various processes and the stakeholders involved in policy formulation and implementation. This semester I am engaged in the course Managing Educational Policy as School Leaders (EDLM 6005). This is Semester III, 2016/2017. My course coordinator is Dr. Timar Stephenson. Dr Stephenson was my course coordinator once before and was very helpful whenever I needed clarification or when I had a difficulty. I am thrilled to embrace the new ideas and learning opportunities embedded in this course since it teaches issues which I experience at work. Dr Stephenson, during his introduction reminded his entire class that success in this course would only be realized through hard work, dedication, and commitment. Therefore, it is imperative that I have the right attitude as I navigate this course. The course involves seven weeks of intense work. I am pleased to have a wonderful group facilitator by the name of Rhonda Joseph who has already given us a BBC to explain the requirements of the course and our first two modules.
