The Honorable Congressman Richard Wayne Allen
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Representative Allen:
The legislation referred to as the Social Security Disability Insurance and Unemployment Benefits Double Dip Elimination Act has recently come to my attention with great concern. As a citizen of the United States, a current taxpayer, and an eligible voter as of May 2015, this bill will not only affect my present but also my future.
As of September 4, 2015, the United States national debt is over eighteen trillion dollars as depicted by the national debt clock. This enormous number is caused by many expenses, one being Social Security. Because of money deficits, the Social Security fund is disappearing more and more as each day passes. Predictions by the Social Security Administration itself have been made to assume that Social Security will run out by 2037, which means my generation and the generations that follow me will suffer the

People are constantly taking advantage of America’s generosity. “117,000 individuals double dipped in 2010, costing the government 850 million in overlapping claims.” This outrageous number is money the United States does not have to be wasting on abusers of the system. The United States already spends enough on Social Security Disability Insurance and unemployment benefits without people finding ways to gain more money by the lack of the government’s awareness. Disability is for one who cannot physically work, while unemployment is for one who can work with no handicap. These two funds were set up for different issues, which is why one person should not be allowed to receive benefits from both. My main worry is that these funds will eventually run out, and in the future, people will not have these programs to fall back on in their time of
This directly affects people who have disabilities who need insurance to either live or live comfortably. Many people in the US die because
Waking up to a fresh start of the week and hopefully this week will turn out to be great. So anyway I were able to get ten hours of sleep that was very much needed, even though I could’ve slept all day if it wasn’t for me have to do service learning then two class afterwards. The reason is I worked over the weekend, which it was a little busy due to the big events that were going on at my job and outside around the area. So as I start my simple daily morning routine I think on things I have to get done for the upcoming week and I also think on what places I would like to go for lunch that day. Okay so I am all dressed and ready to another day at Linwood Robinson senior center because I enjoy talking and watching those seniors have a great time. The reason is I believe seniors can have great life even if they are not traveling outside of the country to somewhere nice because it is still good to let seniors know that they should make everyday count and they should learn to appreciate every moments. Also, they should never allow waiting to become habit. The reason is seniors will fall right into that category because I have seen it happen a few times before. So that’s why it is important as a social worker to find ways to keep our seniors active and engaged. In additionally, as a Social worker student, client engagement is a practice in the field whereas I will gain the skills and knowledge to work with seniors even though at Linwood Robins I were able to interact with a few
Over forty million Americans are disabled, whether it is a physical, sensory, cognitive, or mental disability. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act was signed into law in 1973. This law states that no handicapped individual shall be disqualified from partaking, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program receiving federal financial assistance. The foundation of the Section 504 is from the language of preceding civil rights laws that sheltered women and minorities. Section recognizes that history proves that humanity has treated people with disabilities as second-class citizens based on previous stereotypes. These types of attitudes have translated into policies based on paternalism. Section has acknowledged
The social work profession and my life experiences have taught me that we all at one point of our lives have been in the position of asking for help. For some people asking for help may be an effortless task, but for others, asking for help may involve challenging cultural and family values. This paper will focus on a period in my life when asking for help signified a huge personal challenge, as I was taught growing up that I should keep my personal problems to myself and not involve third parties.
The “Dual Eligibles” beneficiaries constitute about 9.2 million of the entire population, of which most of them are below ages 65 years and disable, and suffer from chronic illness.
Social Security is a public program designed to provide income and services to individuals in the event of retirement, sickness, disability, death, or unemployment. In the United States, the word social security refers to the programs established in 1935 under the Social Security Act. Societies throughout history have devised ways to support people who cannot support themselves. In 1937 the government began issuing Social Security identification cards to all citizens. Each card had a unique number that the government used to keep track of a person’s earnings and the taxes collected from those earnings that went to finance Social Security benefits. The Social Security Act is an act in which
Even though payments from Social Security and Supplemental Security Income have played a critical part in an attempt to increase economic security among older adults, poverty still remains on the rise for this population. Many still live on limited incomes and have the modest savings. In 2013, 50% of people in Medicare possessed incomes of less than $23,000 which corresponds to 200% of poverty in 2015 (Cubanski et. al, 2015). Today, over 25 million people ages 60 or more are economically insecure living at or below 250% of the federal poverty level (FPL) (National Council on Aging, 2016). As a result, these individuals struggle with increasing housing and health care bills, lack of nutrition, inadequate access to transportation, and job
It has been widely speculated by many concerned American citizens that the Trump administration will cause a potentially cataclysmic abandonment of aide and support with specific regards to disabled Americans who are reliant on the Affordable Care Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Woohoo! I won a cash prize from the lottery, hmm, but I have to donate half to a good cause. I will donate half to the SPCA. An organization that is dedicated to saving abandoned animals, dogs in particular. I would donate half of this money to the SPCA because…
Offering disability insurance for your employees is a smart thing to do. Your employees will appreciate the peace of mind short-term and long-term disability insurance policies bring to them. The world is full of chances, and a little bad luck can have far-reaching consequences. Disability insurance provides security—so long as your disability insurance policy is a good one, of course.
The change from Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which has been capped at a five-year lifetime limit for benefits, and it has given stricter eligibility criteria, which includes a requirement of workforce participation. This has sent many seeking Supplemental Security Income (SSI), to do so they need a diagnosed disability. Mental health and chronic pain claims have now become nearly the only way to get access to stable benefits. As these families are experiencing a greater economic hardship, many are finding that applying for SSI based on mental disability is the only way they can survive.
When you are young you always hear people saying it is never too early to start saving for retirement, but at that age the last thing you want to do is put your money towards ending the career you are just trying to start. It is hard to imagine a time where you won’t have to go to work on a daily basis, to make a wage, in order to pay your bills, but the ultimate goal is getting to that time in your life where you don’t have to go to work and the bills are already taken care of. The hope for everyone is that the bills are taken care of and you are able to focus on leisurely things you did not have an opportunity for while employed. What we fail to realize is that the longer we wait to save the more we have to be concerned with the pressure of time running out and not enough money saved. Not to mention the sooner you start saving the more time you give your money to grow.
Social security, the federal retirement system, is one of the most popular government programs in United State?s history. Today, Social Security benefits are the backbone of the nation's retirement income system. The long road to the successful development of social security began in 1935. Before 1935, very few workers received job pensions. Those workers that were covered never received benefits because they were not guaranteed.
A little over 60 years ago the nation struggled through what was, up to then, the most dramatic crisis since the Civil War. The economy was uprooted after the crash of the stock market and the country's financial stability destroyed. One of the many steps taken to alleviate the burden on the American people was that of the passing of Social Security Act of 1935 and its amendments by Congress and the President, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Under the provisions of the Act, the government would take on the responsibility of taxing the income of all working Americans and returning the money through numerous public benefits and programs. Now the nation faces an economic and political problem with the program
When looking at for a governor that will contribute to a state’s long-term success, one must look for the candidate that is not promising quick, instant relief, as citizens will have to pay for it eventually. In the gubernatorial debate, while both candidates are unable to fully answer the pension crisis question, Kim Guadagno seems to have the best ideas for addressing the issue. Phil Murphy’s take on the issue is that he desires to fully fund pension obligations as fast as possible, as this will gain the trust of New Jersey citizens back. This sounds great in theory, but it is important to look at how he is going to do this; in the debate he is unable to explain his plan. Guadagno addresses the issue by stating that in order to fix the problem, fifteen billion dollars of New Jersey’s thirty-four billion dollar budget will be required. This would mean budget cuts in almost all other areas of spending such as education and transportation. While Phil Murphy’s plan seems great, Guadagno quickly makes it clear that it is nearly impossible to achieve. If Murphy were to achieve his goal, New Jersey citizens would pay the price, and they would continue to pay the price for a long time. Guadagno, while not clearly stating her plan, believes that it is best to address the issue with a thoughtful, affordable approach. In conclusion, Murphy’s plan might benefit certain citizens for a brief period of time, but will hurt citizens in the long run, therefore, Kim Guadagno
