As a social worker, we are essentially given the opportunity to utilize our past and personal experiences, educational background, and diverse relationships to make a difference in countless people’s lives. Whether we choose to dedicate ourselves to practicing micro or macro social work, we can influence the outcomes of social policies, assist clients with obtaining basic necessities, or change a person’s thought processes by applying psychosocial theories as necessary. However, we are obligated to pay close attention to the ways in which we interact with our assigned clients, administer and assess outcomes of therapeutic interventions, and do what we think will ultimately benefit our client’s well-being. Considering that a Master’s in Social Work is a professional position, general practitioner’s guidelines must be followed; hence the purpose of the NASW Code of Ethics, the CSWE Educational Policy and Standards, and precise HIPAA adherence.

The paradigms of social work practice are based on the ideologies of social and agency policies to advocate for change, and to make good decisions about people’s lives. “Social work is, by its nature and professional ethics, is concerned with the well-being of all members of society” (Segal, 2013, p. 2). Social policies are based on the principles of social justice, non-discrimination, improving people’s lives, and advocating for social change for improving individual lives to self-determination and self-efficacy. Under the social work profession, social workers embrace the principle of social justice and are committed to work toward achieving social change. In direct practice, social workers work with individuals living in poverty and subjected to all sorts of injustices. In social work, practitioners work in partnership with clients, when coming up with possible solutions to the presenting problems. It is important that in the process, social workers remain with a nonjudgmental attitude and look at how the person’s environment has been harmful to his or her life. For example, when a social worker is working with a homeless individual, it is crucial to “begin where the client is”, while assessing the client’s current needs.

Social worker practice involves the application of values, techniques, and practices is involved in helping people, communities, groups, with a family or individual setting. Social work practices require the incorporation of theories and perspectives that have been successful in helping people. Social workers use theories and perspective in every form of their services. Social workers are required to assess their clients and needs provided services that fit the current problem. The assignment provides students to discuss theories and perspective they are currently using and how specific theories can be incorporated into future social work practice.

16. Why do people leave this field or company? People do and have different reasons for leaving their jobs. It's hard to sum up why people leave the field of social work because different thing happen to different people causing different outcomes in their life. But two reasons kathy could think of on the top of her head was low paid and high stress. At the start pay is low but increase well you move up. So some people don't have the patience to wait and move on to different jobs. Well being a social work is often stressful with the things that happen and the things that we have to do and see. So some people can't handle it and move on to new things in their life.

Social working is an industry so vast and extensive, but consequently be so invisible if you have never been exposed to it. Going into the social work field you have to have the value of selflessness and great charity. A social worker’s education can range from with a bachelor’s to achieving multiple masters or a doctorate. This is not a field quite solely relying on an education, there is a wide range of competitiveness for social workers. The first step is getting on a licensing standpoint, and all of your education; in reality you need to make yourself an acceptable offering for the social workers’ competition field. Growing up, I would watch the people in my community. I picked up on the things we considered to be socially acceptable. My community is predominantly filled with Latino and African American culture. Though, both come from two different ethnic groups, beliefs and practices, they share a common socioeconomic factor. I remember observing the gang violence, prostitution, drug and alcohol abuse, and children wandering the streets. Most people coming from a higher income status would be uncomfortable and appalled by the events that take place in my community. I stress over getting a higher education because I have hope. I have hope that one day, I will be able to put an end to my peoples’ suffering. I have no idea of when or how, but I do believe that working through school, I can develop the necessary social skills needed to guide my community in a better direction. One profession that work towards bringing the community together is social workers. Social workers give assistance to groups and individuals in order to restore or enhance their capacity to function socially. They also work to create societal conditions that supports the communities’ needs. The practice of social work requires knowledge of human development and behavior of each individual or group. I had a great pleasure being in this class to learn the different stages of social work process, while reading the books, taking the quiz and in class activities has made it easy for me to understand and try to apply them to my everyday lifestyle. Social work practice has helped me develop the knowledge of the principles, values, and methods of becoming a social work. The first important process of a social worker is the engagement stage, this is when the social worker and the client have their first interaction. As a social worker you need to build the connection with your client to show them that you are here to help them. It is critical for social worker to be open to the client and establish a level of trust, active listening to ensure the clients is heard, and note taking notes. The second process is the assessment stage, this is when the social worker and client come to an agreement to the information shared by the client to develop strategies. Social worker uses this time to clarify with their client about the problematic they have, and work through the problem so they can work together to come up with an action plan. The third one is the intervention stage this point of the process is when you begin to planning. The social worker works with their client, begins to develop a plan with the client in order to accomplish goals that work targeting the issues. To ensure that the goals and objectives are clear to the client and the social worker, that nothing is misunderstood. At this stage the social work and the client execute to ensure their goals are being met. The evaluation is the last stage when the social worker receives feedback from the client about the process, and goal they set together to see if their goals were met. This stage is when social workers help their client independently continue to work on the issues on their own. If client feels that specific issues were not satisfied or addressed correctly than it is necessary to begin the assessment and implementation stage again.

In the first few weeks of my practicum at the Carroll County School District, I have already experienced numerous activities that are relevant to my future social work career. One of the initial experiences was a orientation training called “SafeSchools” that Carroll County requires all employees of the district to complete in order to engage with the children (of all ages) effectively. This was a full day training that I found to be informative, yet challenging. In the social work profession, the primary goal is to aid and empower individuals or families who are faced with oppression, vulnerable in society, and living in poverty (Code of Ethics, 2008). Social workers strive to improve the welfare of those who need assistance meeting their daily basic essentials for survival. According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic needs, a person requires five clusters to make them an integrated and self-motivated whole in society. The five clusters include: physiological needs; security needs; social needs; self-esteem needs; and self-actualizing needs (Aanstoos, 2014). The Code of Ethics is an important component that ensures that the profession is held to its highest standard and to protect the community. In this paper, the intern was placed at the Mobile County Department of Human Resources in the Adult Protective Services department and will be disclosing information about a particular case during their internship. To protect the clients and all parties associated confidentially within this case, material that could reveal their identity will not be discussed and only relevant information about the case will be addressed. The clients in this case have been both diagnosed with agoraphobia with panic disorder. A) I would describe social work as a profession that seeks to help individuals, families, and groups in multiple ways. Social work takes into account benefits of society as well as individuals and therefore seeks for a solution to a problem that would be the most moral and right thing to do. The social work profession has multiple careers that assist with several issues such as adoption, mental health, addictions, poverty and homelessness, hospice care, and immigration and aboriginal treatment. Each of these areas have a rage of careers within them, or social workers can have a career as one of the broader categories. A social worker is not simply a career, it is also a way of thinking and being. Social workers must have certain values to make them the best they can be at their careers. These values include: respect for human rights and dignity, promotion of social justice and human well-being, self-determination, recognizing the worth and uniqueness of every person, the importance of community, and confidentiality. I shall go over each of these values to explain them more thoroughly. Respect for human rights and dignity means that the social worker needs to understand that every person deserves to be treated equally and with dignity. They must put their judgments and prejudice aside and help each client to the best of their ability and knowledge. Throughout our lives we experience many events that help to shape our development. Frequently, we are unaware of the developments taking place until we take time to reflect back on these events. Historically, many theorists have proposed various concepts that they feel best demonstrate the developments that people experience throughout their lifetime. Upon reflection of my personal life, I am able to connect some of the theories found in social work today with events that have happened in my life, particularly throughout my adolescence.
