Methodology
Research Method In order to obtain data, I decided to use the method of partaking in interviews. The interview process was straight, forward and direct. It consisted of ten questions that were used to analyze the person’s identity and view of their community. The questions in the interview questioned the person’s values, morals, lifestyle, income, knowledge of problems in society, and social status. Specifically, I used a open-ended question process. Most of the questions were open-ended which allowed for the participants to expand on the questions in their answers. However, there were some closed-ended questions in the survey, which served to create a more narrow, focused response. The close ended questioned allowed for my participants

I was able to navigate through the neighborhood and business because my family lives in the neighborhood. So, I already had some natural bonds with some of the people that I interviewed for this paper. Also, as a son of a parent that works in the tech industry, I had some knowledge and facts about some of the demands it has put on the people on San Francisco. I was aware of the bus routes of the tech industry, the demographics of the tech industry, and most popular places to live for techies in the city. However, as a son of a techie, I also have a outsider role. As part of the problem, I might bring bias facts or information because one of my parents is positively affected by the high tech industry. Also, my family moved into the Dolores heights neighborhood 5 years ago in the middle of the economic boom. That being said, I don’t have insider in the affects of the economic boom of the 21stt century. I cannot provide information on how it has changed the area/city over any time frame over 5 years ago. Additionally, as a dependent , I have no real responsibility, job, etc., so I’m living off my parent’s money and privileges that come with that. As I started to get involved in my research, I search for people in my neighborhood that came from different walks of life and would provide varied, unbiased answers to my research …show more content…
The thematic analysis method is perfect for qualitative research because it allows you use inductive and deductive coding while still allowing the participants voices to be heard. The analysis allows me to examine and record patterns within the data set created form their answers. I am able to dissect themes or patterns that are being displayed across the data. The overarching themes are important because it gives the researcher a voice in the data. Similar concepts that the interviewers grasp are placed together and analyze. Patterns in research are important to delve more into. It shows that there are reoccurring situations or problems that was made aware by all sets of people that were answering the
I had the pleasure of interviewing one of our church parisinors, Ms. Maria. Ms. Maria is 75 years old Hispanic woman who has been a widow for the past three years. Ms. Maria was basically a stay at home Mom when her children were young and when she did work she worked as an assembly line worker. Her wages were low and her pension that she currently receives is not enough to meet her monthly needs. Her husband was the main bread winner prior to him dieing of a massive heart attack at the age of 78 while he was at work. Her husband was a cook in a resturanrt and had decied to continue to work until some of their loans were paid off. Since his death, Ms. Maria has been depressed, anxious and struggling to make ends meet and has recently been diagnosed with hypertension. Her three children live out of state a don’t get to visit often.
For my interview, I chose to interview my mom, Ilsa Wells, who had been born and lived in Colombia for 23 years before moving to the United States. Her family in Colombia was able to get by and provide for their fairly large family, albeit barely and with a lot of people having to work to make ends meet. She got her education there and when she was 23 she decided to move here in search of job opportunities and a better life.
Bean I should be aware of the issues of conflict of interest. I need to make sure that our law firm has never represented Ms. Bean’s spouse. If this is the case at all I will need to inform her that we are unable to represent her. If I know Ms. Bean personally at all this would potentially cause a conflict of interest. Especially if I personally know her spouse as well. By carrying on this interview it will give me a great deal of insight into hew case and if any type of conflict of interest may occur I need to be very honest with Ms. Bean, as our potential client, because it could cause a change in the outcome of the case all together if she chooses to have us represent her (ABA, Rule 1.7). Of course I need to keep in mind the ethical rule of confidentiality. Whatever Ms. Bean shares with me is confidential, so it is only to stay between the firm and herself and she should be comfortable in knowing she can tell us anything and it will never leave the law firm (ABA, Rule
There was a strength in the study from the use of qualitative methodology and thematic analysis to code the interviews of the participants.
The awareness that allows people to comprehend the link between their immediate, personal social settings and the remote, impersonal social world is called
When we were given this assignment I was very uneasy about talking to another person about personal matters. Let alone someone who I had never had a conversation with and was of a different race and ethnicity. My interviewee's name is Micheal. He considers himself black of African American descent. He is a black 36 yr old black male. Michael was born in San Bernardino, CA. He’s an educated and a professional male who works in college. He is the father of 2 boys, happily married. His wife is considered a white woman. Michael is the second from the oldest of about 9 children. He was raised by his aunt and uncle who he very happily calls, mom and dad. They had 2 adopted children when he was taken in and then they adopted 2 more after him. He smiles
7. Use ideas from clips from Unnatural Causes to highlight how inequality effects health outcomes. Discuss two examples.
In this course I have learned about different social problems in societies worldwide. Some of these include poverty, social inequality, discrimination of race and culture, urbanization, and more. After learning all these subjects and more, I have decided to do my final on social inequality and minorities in the United States. I chose this particular topic because I have seen this in almost every place have lived. I find it appalling that minorities are still not treated 100% equal. We as Americans know what inequality is and know how it is used in our everyday society. I want to explore this topic and show how real and big this
After interviewing Joe, I decided to interview a student that has visited three times the Counseling Center. My interviewee’s name is Maryam Mirzaei. She is 26 years old and identifies as Persian. Maryam was born in Iran and is about to transfer to California State University, Northridge. I asked her what is her definition of culture, has she ever felt excluded based on her culture or ethnic background, what she wishes people knew about her, and how has she seen Pierce incorporate diversity on campus. Maryam stated her cultural background is her way of living. Because of her Persian roots, she celebrates a lot of Persian holidays. They remind her who she is and where her ethnic values come from. She feels comfortable knowing that in a lot of
Devon is 44 years old and is 6 feet and 4 inches. About. The gentleman is slim and looks healthy. Based on the interview he told me that he has become good at chess and has been working to patent his own hat. Therefore he has developed his business skills and math skills.
The last person I interviewed was Lara who is from Kopavogur, Iceland. The first thing I wanted to know about Iceland was how people compared socially to people in the U.S.. She told me that socially it is very different. People are very pleasant especially strangers you see around town, but when you go shopping someone holding the door for you is not something that is common like in America. It is not that people are rude, just that strangers here aren’t as willing to speak to those whom they don’t know. The next thing we talked about was the food in Iceland and how different it is from American food. She stated, “Everything in Iceland does not have to be transported such long distances, so our food is more fresh because we don’t have to add as many preservatives. The food is of higher quality than in America because of how pure the ingredients are. We also don’t have as many fast food restaurants because of how unhealthy they are, and because the price is just the same as preparing your own food. We also don’t have food places that serve breakfast because it is more common to cook your own.”. The final question that I asked everyone else I interviewed I asked Lara. “What did you think America was going to be like before you came here?”. She replied with that she had already been to the northern part of America such as Boston which
In my interview I chose my girlfriend's neighbor. Hector is of Mexican decent and he is here because in Meigs county the produce fields hire Mexican laborers on worker permits. Hector started out doing this then he became the boss about five years ago and received his green card and now is an American and can speak very good English. He explained to me that in Mexico there is no age when you can start working so there are young boys working at six to ten years old to help support his needy family. He also stated that women do not usually work they are only aloud to go to the village markets and get goods for their family's and raise there many children. I asked about minimum wage and he kinda laughed and said some teens and men who work
I found an article that did a qualitative study on women who have experienced stillbirth. According to Allahdadian, Irajpour, Kazemi, & Kheirabadi, (2015), “This study was conducted aiming to explore social support to aid mothers in adaptation after the experience of stillbirth” (pg. 1).
According to Bruan & Clarke Victoria (2006), “Thematic Analysis involves searching across a data set- be that a number of interviews or focus groups, or a range of texts to find repeated patterns of meaning.”
The sociological inquiry is the methodical analysis of the inspirations and behaviour of individuals within a group. It is the study of the social world as a whole and focusing on how elements such as the family, religion, school, community and government effect it. Sociological inquires most standard goal is to simply obtain a more clear understanding of the observable social world that we live in. In this essay I will be looking into the sociological theories of Marx, Weber and Durkheim, and recognising if their approaches are still relevant today.
