Child soldiers, forced into war in order to survive the harsh conditions are victims and should be given amnesty. For example, child soldiers are taught that violence is ok, the only other option is death and they were kidnapped. The harsh conditions of a child living in poverty and war zones are scary and dangerous. In most situations being taken by a general to be at war is a better option. But, little do the children know, what they are doing has a large effect on their new life.
“Child soldiers. Two simple words. But they describe a world of atrocities committed against and sometimes by children.” (COALITION TO STOP THE USE OF CHILD SOLDIERS). Child soldiers are taught at a young age that violence is ok. They are given dangerous weapons and even in extreme cases are forced to kill others in order to get food. They are treated like animals and are victims of a bad influence. The soldiers are taught that they can kill with no punishment. One might disagree that child soldiers should be given amnesty because they carry out the orders of killing others. Although they could’ve ran away while carrying out the orders, many were hunted down by name due to the fact that they escaped. In order to survive the malicious war, the children had to fight for things they didn’t want to. They had to persevere through life threatening situations in order to win a battle some won’t fight for. This proves how child soldiers are victims because they are forced into war with dangerous weapons. They are forced to kill in order to live and have no other choices to live a good life. The violence that is taught to the soldiers is often carried out after the war, and is helped by organizations such as UNICEF to correct the detrimental behavior.
Child soldier are kidnapped with no other choice than to join the war and fight for something that they might not want to fight for. A child is normally separated from their family in order to survive before being taken, due to the fact that the ratio of adults killed is a lot more than the amount of children. The amount of deaths in the community is risky for anyone to be around. Children hid in bushes and in the ground in order to survive being taken into the harsh custody of the war
Child soldiers should be given amnesty because they were forced into having to go to war and if they refused to then they were either shot or killed. They were drugged if they said yes so then they will actually go out into war and fight. These kids knew what they were doing but at the same time they did know what they were doing and they couldn't resist it because they would be shot or most likely killed. So think about it if you were in charge of a country with child soldiers asking for amnesty would you give the child soldiers
To begin with, child soldiers deserve amnesty because they don’t choose or are manipulated into becoming a child soldier. When children are put into a war most of the time they don’t have a choice or are manipulated into thinking what they are doing is okay. One
Around the globe, in the past and present, children are being recruited to fight as soldiers in wars sometimes as young as 5 and up until they are 18 or older. These children soldiers should not be given amnesty because giving them amnesty could give others encouragement to keep using them, everyone has the same rights which means everyone has the same consequences, and some child soldiers have committed the most violent and harsh acts in wartime, and they can be dangerous to keep in our country.
Child soldiers are victims to an unfortunate outcome when viciously stolen from reality and their childhoods. Drugged, brainwashed, and armed these kids are taught at an impressionable age that in war it's kill or be killed. They are given no other option than to participate in this war, so child soldiers should be granted amnesty.
One significant piece of evidence to support the claim that child soldiers are both the victims and be given amnesty is Ishmael who is a former child soldier who has been given amnesty and he tells others about his experience as a child soldier. He was taking refuge in a camp and forced to be a soldier. Before, he and other child soldiers went on missions they were given drugs and he does not remember much of what he had done. This piece of evidence supports the claim that child soldiers are the victims and should be given amnesty, because it shows that they do not have a choice in becoming a soldier and are given drugs so they are not are thinking clearly and they don’t know what they are doing.
The use of child soldiers have become a normal contribution to armies, especially in countries such as Africa. Although, countries such as Afghanistan, India, and Libya have been using child soldiers since 2011. According to “Children in Conflict: Child Soldiers,” there has been 36 countries involved since 1998. Something needs to be done about this issue due to the fact that thousands of
Recently, two million children have died over the past ten years due to becoming a child soldier. A huge deplorable development that has extended recently is the increase of child soldiers. Children are constantly being used as soldiers for various reasons. In some countries, there are more child soldiers than they are adults because children are more compliant. Children have been exploited as soldiers because they are being recruited to do a violent action, it is difficult for them to, later on, assimilate back to their lives, and child soldiers are regularly used in developing countries.
The children in the war were in a kill or be killed situation. The children didn’t have a choice except to follow orders from their commanders or they would get killed. They had to fight and kill others to stay alive. A quote from the article “Child Soldiers” (To what extent should child soldiers be held accountable for their crimes?) states, “Furthermore, many children join without carefully thinking through their decision. At the time they might believe that recruiting would lead to a safer life as necessities such as food, water and shelter would be available; actually fighting in war would not cross their mind.” This quote proves that child soldiers are victims because the only reason that some joined was because they had to or else they would die. Also because when they joined they didn’t really know what was going to happen and they didn’t know about the all of the mass killings that would occur. They were just focused on staying alive and getting the basic necessities that they needed like food, water, and shelter. If they wouldn’t have joined then they could have died from hunger or the harsh weather. They chose to defend themselves by joining the
A lot of the children interviewed within the first chapter of Peter W. Singer’s book Children at War are under the age of 12. They speak of torturing people in the most horrific of ways. Such as when joining the paramilitaries, A., age twelve, states that the first thing they make you do is kill someone. A random person is picked for the recruits to chop off his hands and arms. It is important to realize however, that not all of these child soldiers are as young as 7. Singer explains that a “A ‘child soldier’ is generally defined (under both international law and common practice) as any person under eighteen years of age who is engaged in deadly combat or combat support as part of an armed force or group.” What is most horrendous is
What are child soldiers? Child soldiers are people under eighteen who partake in either a regular or irregular armed group in any way. According to Warchild there are an estimated 250,000 child soldiers in the world and often as a part of their recruitment they are forced to either kill or maim a loved one so that they cannot go back home. In Ishmael Beah’s novel A Long Way Gone (Memoirs of a Boy Soldier) the author recounts his life as a child soldier fighting on the government side in Sierra Leone from age thirteen to sixteen. This paper will be attempting to answer the questions of why certain armed groups use children, why it is wrong to do so, and how people are taking a stand to stop it.
These Children are being exploited from their families and then taking into custody. Human service reports that children are being brutally recruitment, by being taken away and often being harassed by older people. This is a society impact, this is a big problem, for the global impact, which can work together to reintegrate, child soldiers back to society to make them, a productive individuals. All around the world every child has dream of going to school and learning about everything, but in some states that's not the case they are compelled to become instruments of war kill, and to be killed. Child soldiers are being forced to give violent expression towards adults, they are often thought that adults are the main enemy and they are always thought that they are alone in this
Worldwide, the use of child soldiers is a huge issue. Today, there are over 300,000 child soldiers worldwide. Every one of these soldiers are heavily armed and dangerous. They have been becoming a threat to America and the world. No matter their age, they have done terrible thing in behalf of terrible causes. Even as America continues to bring these kids to back in hope to rescue them, most if not all attempts to civilize them have failed. These kids have been swindled, drugged and brainwashed. There is simply no hope for them to return to their right mind.
Greater attention and action against the worldwide use of child soldiers need to be addressed by the world community because children are being forced out of their homes, traumatized by all of the killings and dying surrounding them and they are being starved and beaten. Today, there are thousands of children involved in these armed jobs all around the world. There is an estimated 3,000 children, many under 16, including 500 girls in the army. (“Child Soldiers”)
Child soldiers were forced to kill , they were promised a lot of things.” and forced by commanders through false promise , drugs..” this helps me understand that they were lied too. Also , child soldiers DID have choices because it says in the article , “ Furthermore, many children join without carefully thinking through their decision.” which helps me understand child soldiers got involve themselves. They didn’t know what they were getting themselves into.
“Compelled to become instruments of war, to kill and be killed, child soldiers are forced to give violent expression to the hatreds of adults” (“Child Soldiers” 1). This quotation by Olara Otunnu explains that children are forced into becoming weapons of war. Children under 18 years old are being recruited into the army because of poverty issues, multiple economic problems, and the qualities of children, however, many organizations are trying to implement ways to stop the human rights violation.
