Don’t we all remember that famous advertisement by a tyre company where a couple enjoying a late night ride on their bike are almost rammed into by a car which takes a wrong turn and they are saved just in time because of the superior tyres? Or the one where a careless guy with a baby in a pram is talking over the mobile phone while he crosses the road and is almost run over a biker but for his good brakes and tyres? And to top it all, the one with the pram swears at the biker instead of apologizing and owning up his fault! I could cite a whole book full of such scenarios that aptly describe India’s road sense. The street are indeed filled with idiots, be it out of lack of civic sense or otherwise. And what’s even more annoying is the fact that we tend not to care much about it and take it all in stride as something very normal. It is said that just knowing what is wrong lays the foundation of the future right (if any). Here is a compilation of the sad state of “our” road sense (remember, brevity is a virtue which really tested me here, trying to come up with as few examples as I could, given our inconspicuous road sense).
HORN ‘NOT’ OK PLEASE! In this lovely country of ours, no driver of an automobile worth his salt would shy away from the incessant urge to blissfully honk away as if it is a measure of his oh-so-keen driving

When and in which direction they might take a turn is highly unpredictable. And no one’s apparently heard of something as base as ‘Lane Discipline’, they switch lanes like Zip-Zap-Zoom and overtake you when you least expected it. It is thrilling to defy all the rules(Aren't rules meant to be broken?). They bring out the zeal they show in their video games on road and drive like they are playing NFS, as they cannot drive slowly at all. I am sure some of them are too delusional to know the difference between the real and the virtual
Drivers are not all are inherently bad people who are just out to run down bicyclists, just as white people are not all white supremacists; however, there is an unknown bias we all have due to the influence of media and infrastructure. This cannot be undone easily, it can be, but it takes an abundance of work, dialogue, and understanding between countless people. Dowsett explains this by saying, “... Bike lanes are relatively new, and still just kind of an appendage on a system that is inherently car-centric.”
In the rhetorical analysis that is observed in the PSA, pathos is the most exploited in the majority of these ads. As it graphically exalts the emotions with situations in which the spectator can clearly relate. This announcement in particular considers a dialog between a mother and a student seconds before an accident is caused by texting and driving. The mother questions if the student is aware that it is not in her lane, if she is texting, and requests emphatically that she pay attention to the road because her children are in the car with her. The student responds by justifying her actions but is mortified when she acknowledges what is about to happen. She does not have
An easy way to deal with this sort of driving is to use defensive driving tactics and thinking about others or for authorities to make more strict rules when it comes to being inconsiderate on public roadways.
Why do you think McCarthy has chosen not to give his characters names? How do the generic labels of “the man” and “the boy” affect the way you /readers relate to them?
After reading “Driving While Stupid,” by Dave Barry, he tells us about some of his experience with seeing bad drivers. Barry uses many old experiences while being in Miami, China, Boston, and Argentina. I agree with this statement because in almost every city I been in the driving was terrible. Everyone, in some way or another, has witnessed people drive very stupid and reckless. Barry indicated that some drivers use insane driving techniques. These include driving very fast, failure of the utilization of headlights at night, and having distractions for the view of the drivers. He says that the drivers do not have a sequence for navigation since some are involved in phone calls, eating, reading, changing CDs, crowd surface makeup, etc. This is a common thing for teens and even adults to be distracted behind the wheel. He drove through various cities where the traffic laws are constantly being violated. For example, has only one traffic law, which is “No driver may ever be behind any other driver.” In his opinion, Miami drivers are the worst drivers that he has ever witness because of the guy who was driving on 1-95. He was watching videos on his phone and was clearly not paying attention to the road or any other drivers. This does not only affect him but also the other people around him. He was not be cautious of the road and putting his and others lives in danger.
In a report done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it was found that there was a 5.6% increase in the number of lives lost, on the roads, last year (Spector, U.S Traffic Fatalities Rose 5.6% in 2016, Wall Street Journal). This brings up a recurring theme of reckless driving in the US. As described in the 1920s based book The Great Gatsby, and in the news recently, we’ve used cars recklessly. In both the news currently, and in The Great Gatsby, there have been examples of Americans being reckless drivers.
The creators of this commercial grasp the hearts and minds of their audience by first bringing out a situation and people who can relate to the common driver, then second exposing them to the extreme consequences of texting and driving, while also setting the mood with appropriate music. By appealing to the emotions of the audience so strategically, the producers carry out an attempt to impact the actions of any drivers who may view their video and change how they view distracted driving in their personal
Wondered what life would be like it driverless cars where a thing? Well to welcome the future. Driverless cars are being made and they are getting tested and it is not a good thing. Driverless cars would be programmed to follow the driving rules, and only the driving rules. There are specific times to where a driver has to swerve over, make a fast stop, accelerate etc.
Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man or woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving in and out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur when a competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver. Stereotypically this driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no set age or sex. They get so angry for the smallest of reasons that they don’t really care what they do as a result, so long as they go out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and have no qualms about risking their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely apply the brake when coming to a stop, more like “tap tap and go”. My uncle Jim is a prime example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82, he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions to those around him. Try telling him to ease up or look out, and he’s bound to increase the gas flow to his V8 engine.
If you see them driving on the road, they are probably swerving around trying to stay on the road because they can’t manage two things at once. Most of the time on the interstate you will find them cruising along at about 50 in the fast lane, blocking traffic due to the fact they are oblivious that they are going under the speed limit. When they are in a city traffic setting, often times they will run red lights, and make other fatal traffic errors. They would be decent drivers, if the distractions were removed from the car!
And they will drive in the middle of the road! Pretty hopeless driving in England, anyway... Not like France where you really could let out…’" (Christie 13) In the evidence from
The most common cause of wrong way driving is avoid U-turns .The drivers drove in wrong way driving into habit that do well often seen. Especially on the road, U-turns car is several kilometers away and don’t have u turn during the way even the drivers drove in wrong way, with traffic at a driveway is a risk that it will cause an accident. Convenience is the one reason that why people drive in wrong way driving because it probably go faster than go in direct way. And the third reason is Lack of Licensing & Experience this important for safety, accuracy every drivers must have licensing and experience before drive or ride a car . When some people don’t know about driving then they can’t drive in safety and drive in wrong
It’s spread all around the world and now is a very dangerous sport. It is a very heavily organized sport across the globe. The movie Fast and Furious is a good movie about street racing but has influenced thousands of people to do it. People probably do it because you have to pay to race at a race track. The freeway is free-way. I have seen it myself when I was heading southbound on I-25 when a 5.9 liter Dodge Dakota along with a Mitsubishi Eclipse merged on the interstate and a mob of Honda Civics came and all of them met up. One of the drivers held up his hand and the finger motion said “3-2-1” all of the cars floored it and so for off they went.
When driving, sometimes it is difficult to focus on the road which makes it easy to forget that the roads are shared by everyone and not for your exclusive use.
Same is the case in Chennai. Being a metro city and a highly populated one also, has a lot of road accidents every year. Despite this the violations in traffic laws do not reduce. A lot of people disobey the rules every day sometimes willingly and sometimes because they are forced to do so because of others.
