“The work is worth it!” shouted my coach before hitting the mat. My whole team’s stomachs are in giant knots. Sweat drips down our faces. Thousands and thousands of people cheering. “Cheer Extreme Chicago Obsession may take the floor” said the announcer. This was the moment we've been working towards for nine months. Full out after full out. We all had one goal which was to win.
Ever since I was four years old, I've done all star cheerleading,a very competitive sport. Ever since I started doing it, I knew why I wanted to. I did Cheerleading at a gym called Cheer Extreme Chicago located in Addison, IL. I was on a junior 5 team called Obsession. The day we started practicing, we prepared for one competition. The competition is called NCA (National Cheerleading Association). NCA is located in Dallas, TX. There are 1,143 teams, 25,484 athletes, 38,000 spectators, 41 states, and five countries. After the nine months passed, it finally came. When I woke up Thursday morning we drove to Chicago O'Hare Airport. We then got our plane tickets from the kiosk and headed to the flight door. We waited about an hour till we were allowed to board. As we sat down in our seats, I spotted many cheerleaders from different gyms crowding the airplane. It made me realize what I was walking into and how many athletes were going to be in Dallas. The plane finally took off and after a few hours passed and we were in Dallas, Texas.
The competition was Saturday and Sunday, but we got there Thursday
Counting down the seconds in a crowded dark hallway, listening behind doors to the song Welcome to the Jungle blasting in the gymnasium mixed with the sounds of the crowds roaring. The only thoughts going through everyone's head, is that this might be the last time we ever play together again. As soon as the song gets to the que we run out of the hallway under a tunnel made of arms, running into the moment that can make it or break it.
One lovely afternoon I was at my indoor soccer game. I was in an indoor league with some of my friends and we were tearing every team we played. That day we were going to play against an academy team, which have very good players.I had arrived about two minutes before the game. I was pretty late because I had gone to go eat before with my brother. So because of that I didn’t start and I wasn’t warmed up either. Nathan, my coach was like “Hey man did you go sew your clothes?,” in a jokingly was because I was late. The game had begun now and it was already intense. It was back to back If I do say so. The first half was an exciting one as it was all tied up two to two. I had played about half of the half. Now came the second half, and later on I went on the pitch. Some kid and I jumped up into the air to win the ball. We both did, and when I fell down, I guess I landed on my hand the wrong way. I felt a sudden pain on my hand. My wrist was all jacked up. It was horrendous as I looked down at my hair in shock as It looked like the top of mountains.I couldn’t feel my hand, It hurt quite a lot when i attempted to move it. My teammates, the opponents, my coach, the referee, and my brother all gathered around me to see what had happened. I wasn’t crying or anything but I sure wanted to. Actually I really did haha. My brother questioned “ oh dang man, you good?,” and well I just looked at him in pain, I didn’t know what to say. When the ambulance arrived at the
Most people believe soccer is nothing but just a game , but for me, it's more than a game it's a passion. Soccer involves hard work , dedication , and long hours out in the field. It takes hard work to be out in the field playing with a ball aggressively and with skills. Soccer is a sport where there is no giving up , in order to be successful, you need to practice intensely to get stronger and better every day. There's times where you want to give up, but you just can't you need to find some type of motivation to keep you going. My coach is the person who has made an impact in my life . By that it changed me in many different ways. He has been able to motivate me , support me , and not letting me fail.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
Twelve years ago my mother enrolled me into cheerleading. Cheerleading has truly impacted my life, every day for 3 hours we have practice leading up to major competitions. We are given extra responsibilities, go through training to stay fit, meeting academic grade requirements to participate, show up for games and practices and take the sport seriously. I uphold a enormous amount of credit to my coaches over the past years, they never give up on their team no matter what the cost is. You have to have true compassion and respect for you and your team to be a cheerleader, its a team there is no i in team. I continue to work hard at all i do to keep a good reputation, keep my high morals, and standards at all times, be prideful in my work ethic,
When hearing the words soccer, volleyball, basketball, track, and dodge ball, for most, these activities will transport them back to a time when they were positioned in a straight line pressed shoulder to shoulder with their classmates like sardines in a can, waiting to get selected by one of the team captains. Some may have been the first players picked; others may have been the last. However, there is more at stake than who is chosen and in which order. A larger question exists and that is the competitive nature of high school and collegiate athletics. A deeper understanding of high school and collegiate athletics programs can reveal the hidden and unconscious truths intertwined with a competitive environment.
Soccer. fast moving, strategy, competitive, I loved those aspects in the game. In the month of March, when all the soccer tryouts began, I decided to try out for an older team which was 2 years older-my brother's team- just for fun. I went out on the day of the trial and surprisingly, I made the team. Feeling as if I had won the million dollar lottery, filled with excitement, on the side with fear because there were boys who were enormous and strong on my team. The only reason they were bigger, because I was 2 years younger.
“This is the movement towards improvement,” I thought while hitting a muddy, stained ball. I am squinting my eyes to look through the walls of gray fog covering my target ahead. I can smell the lush, green grass under my feet. I hear the tiny birds chirping in the tall Monterey Cypress trees above. It is just another calm Saturday playing golf on the mushy grass of San Francisco. I could have fished, balled, or skateboarded, but I decided to come here instead. This is because it is a special hobby unlike any other. Golf helped shape my personality, and disciplined me both physically and mentally. This motto was also inspired by golf, which helped me get through many challenging times. This is my golfing story.
Spending months upon months, week after week, days, hours and seconds, all for one little sport. The sport that fills my heart and love so deeply, cheerleading. Not the school sideline girls that yell and kick, but competitive cheer. In a competitive cheer routine, a team must be able to continuously flip across the floor, jump as fast as rabbits, launch people into the air while still managing to keep them safe, and be sassier than a seven-year-old pageant girl dancing - all of it jam packed into 2 minutes and 30 seconds. It looks like a piece of cake reading it right now and watching it too, but it isn’t. Numerous people have argued about whether cheer is or isn't a sport to me, but that doesn't matter to me. All that matters is having that opportunity to cheer. In my life, competitive cheerleading is the biggest impact on my identity - now and forever.
As I opened my eyes on an early Saturday morning, I immediately had butterflies in my stomach. “Today is my first cheer competition.” I thought about this all morning as I was getting ready. Everything had to be perfect in order for me to walk out the door ready to show the world my cheerleading routine. It was an absolute crazy morning. The hair, the makeup, the uniform, and the white cheer shoes. I never realized till then how much work it actually was just to get, “the look” of a cheerleader. Glitter was covering my eyelid while my hair was perfectly curled in a ponytail with my bow way bigger than my head. The whole way to my competition which was at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I listened to my cheer song over and over again
BANG. A player gets hit, he’s slow to get up, but his coaches are screaming “just shake it off” the player knows he doesn’t feel right, but he knows that’s just the name of the game. Football, one of the most controversial sports ever created. Known as a “man's” sport, pain is part of the game and if you don’t get hurt you aren’t playing hard enough. Research about football and long-term effects it has on your body has been studied heavily recently. They have come out with scientific methods of tracking the amount of force given off and/or received during games and practice. Studies have shown different diseases caused by repetitive head impact, and due to these facts contact football shouldn’t be allowed until junior high, youth brains need
People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
In the following essay, I will describe the five lifestyle factors that can affect an athlete. I will then go on to analyse each of the factors and how they affect an athlete’s lifestyle.
“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life”. This well-known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some rules and custom. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing sports and which gives some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sports is healthy because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport.
Volleyball, one of the world's greatest sports. From the hot and muggy gym, to sweat dripping down each players face, volleyball is not for the faint of heart. This sport requires a single-minded desire: to win. It takes more than just teamwork to win. Volleyball has always been one of my favorite sports. I would always meet a new friend anywhere I would go. Believe it or not these situations are how you could meet your life long best friends.
