By doing this they donate money to African government and create opportunity to develop sport in their country. Dating back to the B.C, small sports were created for people to have some sort of entertainment and a way to avoid the problems people were facing. These sports were then put into the greek olympics where people competed in different categories and their goals were to amuse the audience and showcase their skills. This is what inspired the concept of sports and since then sports have become one of the most talked about topics and continues to be used for strength and amusement. Doing sports was a way to face fears and overcome difficulties. In fact, sports were what got people through the most difficult times each country has battled. The whole purpose of a sport was to serve as a distraction from reality, but times have changed. Sports have developed into a major justification for the amount of people getting diagnosed with a mental disease. Sports take away the time and energy an average person needs to live healthy and happy. The newer generations don’t realize how sports can have a large effect on a person.
Golf is a good example of how sports and athletes have help and damage society.
In this film, each character is given a name upon how they act and what clique they interact with. A functionalist perceptive might say that each type of character has their own meaning or impact to society and without them society will become dysfunctional. Our first character named Andrew Clark on the wrestling team played the status of the “Athlete”, a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise. Through a Functionalist perspective they would say that sports help Social systems maintain balance and operate efficiently. They help by providing opportunities for conflict management and release, Socialization, individual of different diversity to interact, and social mobility. Since Clark is participating in wrestling he is contributing to society by playing the sport because without “Athlete’s” there would be no Sports to play. Because it sport contributes to society it makes it a working/functioning part. John Bender played the status of the “Criminal”, a person who has committed a crime. He is deviant, and violates society formal laws. He is seen in the movie, disrespecting the teacher, having marijuana in his locker, and breaking rules. Functionalist Perspectives on crime is that its normal and a necessary part of society. It contributes by creating social unity, society learns not to do this behavior. A functionalist perspective on this type of character would be that he has a function in society.

Soccer has always played an important role in my life by shaping my social life and my personality.
Physical activity is used to gain status as well. Things such as Social constructs, such as race hierarchy, that was formed through contemporary society found itself embedded within sports. It helped to create different power dynamics within social groups and classes. Many individuals also profited from being in the space of physical culture and
1. The three theoretical approaches to the study of sports include the structural-functional approach, social-conflict approach, and symbolic interaction approach. A comparison of these three approaches reveals that the structural-functional approach considers sports as a form of recreation and getting the human body in shape. In addition to that, it serves a wide range of underlying functions such as the development of social interactions and the encouragement of competition. This approach represents the form of sports in the society as people from diverse walks of life are able to interact and form relationships with others through sports. This is a favourable approach because it helps in keeping societal order and harmony.
The positive effects of playing sports are based upon what many studies focus on qualities like; competence, confidence, connections, character, and caring.(Truesport) Playing sports keeps student-athletes focused throughout high school. They provide student-athletes with development of persistence, teamwork, leadership, and character, which could all be transferred to different situations in life. It is preferred that these skills are acquired at a young age. If these skills can be learned through sport it makes sense that a parent would put a child in these at such a young age. Sports also give the very important benefit of better health. I will closely examine both the pros and cons of socialization of children through sport at a young age from a functionalist and
Using the Functionalist perspective discuss how sport can be used as an avenue for socialisation and social mobility Introduction Sports! There are very small areas in society that can generate such passion and interest and elevate its participants to almost divine status and raise them from humble beginnings to lords and ladies of the manner. For this reason sports can be used as a powerful medium for socialisation; although not exclusively as other social interactions can have the same results. Sports importance in Britain with regards to its ability to give common ground and transcend age, culture and class and establish the traditional values that we all share as being British give prominence over other social constructions. The first advantage of sports for people is that they help people be healthy, and be fit. Throughout history, people can’t give up their interest at their body. I belive that now many people love themselves no matter how beautiful or ugly they are. Naturally, people’s first aim should be healthy and fit with the benefits of sports. Due to this fact that
“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life”. This well-known anonymous quotation conveys the message that sport is the game which has some rules and custom. It is not only for fun and entertainment, but there are also some benefits of playing sports and which gives some important lessons for life. Every kind of physical sports is healthy because it involves running, jumping, stretching, mind skills and much more. There are so many sports available in the world nowadays, but we can categorize them by the numbers of players, the three main categories are individual sport, dual sport and team sport.
Sport as important social phenomena touches every layer of the modern world society, providing significant influence on all spheres of human vital activities. It influences almost every aspect of our lives: business life, interethnic global relations, social conditions, it also forms moods, behaviors spreading throughout the society, has an impact on moral and ethical values of populations, radically changes the way of life. Proving this thesis I want to include the words of famous Russian sportsman Alexander Volkov: “…sport today is the main social factor that can reflect the invasion of bad habits and cheap cultural efficiency. Sport is the best ‘rattle’ which can divert people from social problems. It’s some kind of ‘glue’ that has enough power to unite the whole nation together, but it’s impossible for neither religion, nor politics.” And politicians consider sport as high potential phenomena that can rally society with one unified national idea.
There are many women who are under the misconception that being tough is just for the boys. However, sports are a positive influence, especially for young girls, because these athletics encourage competitiveness, independence, and the passion to strive for goals (Videon 415). Athletics “teach children life lessons, increase self-esteem, and build intrapersonal and leadership skills.” (Videon 415). However, despite the multiple benefits of participation of physical activity, there is also quite a range of risk factors. Sports in younger athletes have noticeably grown in interest, and so has the number of injuries that occur. At least 775,000 children (14 and under) end up in Emergency Rooms due to sports injury each year (Feury 124). Long term injuries such as spinal abnormalities (back pain), meniscus/ACL surgeries, and growth plate injuries have seen a significant rise (Maffuli 21). Athletics offer many positive opportunities to young athletes, along with many risks. These risks can be prevented with proper health education.
