The growth of television as a significant cultural form during the 1960s put the relationship between sport and the media on the public agenda. In late 1969, the US magazine Sports Illustrated drew attention to the ways in which television was transforming sport. In effect, sport in the television age was a 'whole new game'. Sports of old were merely competitive activities rooted in heroism and romanticism. Sports activities today, however, have no such innocence or simplicity. Currently in America, the activities that make up our sports culture is not only the competitive events themselves but the processes and issues that underlie and surround them. Big-time sports in college has become one of the most impactful experience for the college’s fans and students. In the past two decades the boom of college sports such as football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball have grown exponentially. Some the reason why this has happened is the scholarship sanctions the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) put into effect a few years ago; what the sanctions established were that the “big” schools such as the University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Alabama among other school similar to them couldn’t offer all of their scholarships to the top athlete coming out of High School, making all the smaller schools more competitive on the national level.
In the 1970s the NBA was a parity it had all players to be treated equally. The 70s had a mixture of great players that were striving to be one of the best and they did accomplish that by becoming great in their respected teams. All decades past and present have their teams. The 1950s had the Minneapolis Lakers dominating most of that decade. The 1960s had been dominated by the Boston Celtics led by the great Bill Russell winning eleven championships with the Celtics. The 80s was dominated by two dynasties the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics with the Lakers coming up top on most of them. The 1990s the Bulls dominated most of it. It was led by the G.O.A.T himself Michael Jordan. In the present time the NBA is being dominated by the Golden State Warriors led by a group with Steph, Klay, Kevin, and Draymond. The 1970s didn’t really have any team to dominate that decade it was very well balanced their were 8 teams that came out victorious in that decade. There was no Back-to-Back champions that decade and it was most by any decade.
Every Saturday, college campuses all across the nation are a buzz with activities. The football team prepares for this week?s game. The girl?s soccer team and volleyball teams play on Saturday and Sunday. The boy?s soccer team travels for an away game. Colleges and universities everywhere depend on various sports as a way of recruitment, entertainment, and physical activity for students. In “The Case Against High School Sports” Amanda Ripley makes the point that schools do better without sports. They benefit in many ways. The schools that do not have sports tend to have more money to spend and students focus more on their studies. She also mentions that sports can be beneficial to students, but in the end what is more important, sports or lifelong health? I can understand the point that Ripley is trying to make, but schools should have sports no matter the cost.

In the wide world of sports, teams will try and find a way to better market themselves in the nation to make more revenue. There are many ways to market your team but in the newer generation teams have been taking a different approach. Most teams will advertise there big sports star in trying to have people buy there gear, buy tickets, or simply support their team. But the most effective way to market your team is getting to the kids first. In advertising for a younger generation, you will tie the kids in more at an earlier age and hopefully will stay with the team throughout the years.
