I decided to sketch a map of Langley High School, which is the high school I attended from 2011-2015 in McLean, Virginia. While I have lived on the Colgate campus for almost two years, I find that I am not as familiar with Colgate’s campus due to its large scale compared to my high school campus. I attended Langley for four years, and I often spent a majority of my days at school, both during school hours and after for sport’s practices and games. As a result, I became very familiar with the layout of the campus, the function of different areas, and the overall dynamic of the school, both socially and culturally. Now that I am a Langley alumni, I went back to visit during Thanksgiving break 2015 and 2016, and was able to observe the school from an outside perspective. Through my observations, I became aware of different aspects of Langley that I had not noticed as a student. For example, the different in the tense and stressful dynamic of the second floor, and the more relaxed feeling of the bottom floor was something I did not notice until I walked through the halls after graduating. Additionally, the clear hierarchy and social divisions that exist as a result of grade differences was more prominent as a non-student. In my sketch of Langley, I represented more socially important spaces by drawing them to a larger scale, and less important spaces to a smaller scale. I also indicated the changing role of a space throughout the school day by using different
First let’s talk about the major physical features geography. This school is in the most unwelcoming environment ever. Can’t see it? Well picture an old run down school now put a house off to the side then add a construction site in front of the school. Thats right I said construction as in bulldozers, wood, big machines, cinderblocks, and more. Then add in the fact that the back parking lot leads
One thing remains true; the living spaces are phenomenal. From either living in Cottonwood, Cereus, or any other hall at Barrett you are definitely in for a treat. Each hall has a unique characteristic that makes them exceptional. From the floor theme, to the lounge area each hall brings something different to the atmosphere at Barrett. When walking around the various halls you tend to feel like you’re in a three out of four-star hotel because everything is well kept, and refined, but also individualistic. Every hall has a multitude of floors, and each floor has a different theme. Themes could range from Toy Story to The Lego movie, or one could stand out and have a Harambe memorial in front of their living space. These various themes bring the multitude of living spaces together. Barrett is a distinct place on campus that has a lot to be discovered.
First, the major physical features of Stafford Middle School are the color choices, the protection against harm, and the schedule. What I like
In addition, each bay only has 5 rooms. Each room holds 5 to 6 students, with 3 bunk beds in each room. It is hard to sleep or study when there are that many people in the room. People play music loudly, to the point where a person can’t study because of the music or someone shaking the bed. Not only does this make it hard, but we also have to deal with people stealing items from other students.
A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has university education, he may steal the whole railroad. The physical and human geography of Stafford Middle School is very satisfying. For instance, one of the major physical features of the school is that it’s exceptionally the right size, also the culture is acceptably diverse with many different ethnicities, and finally the interaction with the students and teachers is quite friendly.
Other than the first five years of a child's life, the majority of the time is spent attending school. School is a place where people are meant to feel like they belong, to get a good education for their futures while making lifelong friends who can be there for them in many of life's journeys. Camryn Cantrell was interviewed on her opinions about Lakeview Middle School.
Unlike the freshman dorms, there is more space in individual rooms because there are less communal spaces, according to the memo of the majority of the communal areas are located on the first floor.
Taking these criteria into consideration,a systematic search through various schools and after holding the potential case study buildings with the selection criteria, eight buildings were found to match them sufficiently asmentioned in Table 1 below. For the whole description of each building see Appendix A.
Living on campus, away from home, is an extreme substantial change many college students go through. In order to live on campus and get a successful education, students have to be comfortable with where they are living. Living away from home is one of the students’ greatest fears and living in a nice space with a reasonable amount of people is required for someone to adjust to the college lifestyle. These residential halls represent the quality and value of the university. They will also for some students, determine if they will even consider attending the university or if they will return to live on campus again the oncoming year. The residential housing throughout the University of New Haven differs, especially for the freshman residential halls. As listed on the University of New Haven’s website, the freshman dorms consist of Botwinik Hall, Bergami Hall, Bethel Hall, Bixler Hall, and Westside Hall. Botwinik Hall and Bixler Hall are similar because they both consist of individual rooms shared by three people. However, Botwinik Hall has a bathroom and a common area for two rooms, or six people. Bixler has bathrooms and a common room shared by the entire floor. Bergami Hall consists of two rooms, each with 3 people, sharing a bathroom with three common areas throughout the floor. Bethel Hall has bedrooms with two people who share a common room and bathroom with their entire suite, which consists of 6 total rooms. Westside Hall is the newest residential hall, which has
Studies have shown that student performance in schools have a correlation to the quality or design of the building in question (Chan & Richardson, 2005). The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on how the design of spaces within
White, clean hallways dominated the large and elongated building. A single speck of dust would not touch the ground even if it had tried. The floors were in large tiles of bright white and as were the walls. Classrooms with desks so perfectly aligned that they seem untouched. A sense of affluence surrounding the building in all its glory. A silent, eerie aura enclosed the school, but it was clouded by the radiating light coming through the windows. Subtle breezes drifted through the enormous half glass wall windows and would chill your neck like someone has puffed their breath against your skin.
The design and traditions of schools differ greatly around the world. Devon is a fictional school in rural New Hampshire, during World War II, particularly 1942-1943. There are many qualities that appear in Devon School. However, there are many qualities that appear in Princeton High School as well. There are many similarities and differences between the two schools, Devon and Princeton. Both of the schools have student bodies, faculty, academic courses, buildings and grounds, and attitudes towards sports, that are all comparable and contrastable. Therefore, the schools have similarities, but the differences from one another are what make them unique.
As school has given me a good place to study in, I like the places that are clean and safe rather than messy and unsafe. Even if my middle school was a bit treacherous, I tried my best to ignore it all and work hard by thinking about how I wanted to end up, to live in the same house with my parents for the rest of my life, or to go
Traditional-style dormitories consist of a room shared by two people with access to communal bathrooms, laundry facilities and sometimes kitchens. The buildings may house both sexes, but living spaces and communal bathrooms will be assigned to specific sexes usually by floor or by section. The benefits of this style are that all facilities except individual dorm rooms will be cleaned by janitorial staff. The downside of this style of dormitory is the lack of privacy that may occur in communal bathrooms.
