The stars lie above us hoping we will someday reach out to them, but in order to do so. We must have a dream of stretching our arms out to them. For me, I will reach beyond the galaxy to search and take what I need in order to be successful. I will turn the impossible to possible because I'm a person with big dreams.
I believe that every successful student has either one or two teachers to inspire and motivate them. Koua Yang, my Asian American Studies teacher has such a bright personality that motivates many students to strive for success. His uniqueness of teaching; connecting each and every lesson to his personal life, his dedication to help improve student's education and his commitment as a tennis coach has motivated me to strive for only
The best teacher I’ve ever had was my Honors English teacher, who was the strictest and harshest grader I’ve ever come across. With her as my teacher, I spent the majority of my sophomore year stressed out. What I didn’t realize, however, was that the only reason I was struggling, was because I refused to acknowledge that what she was doing was teaching. The teachers I had previously, never challenged me in the way that she did and, because of that, I could do the bare minimum and still pass. After I finished her class, I realized that she didn’t just set me up to pass her class, but set me up to excel in the future. She changed the way I looked at education, and made me acknowledge that having trouble in a class didn’t mean that I was incapable;
An enthusiastic teacher can easily motivate students to learn because of the passion and drive he/she brings to the class. Such a teacher is also warm and humorous, which students will find encouraging. That might make them want to go the extra mile because the teacher is supportive of them through the feedbacks and scaffoldings he/she gives. However, students often relate much better to their teachers when they believe that he/she is credible, is concerned about their success and has high expectations from them.
The teachers who engage their students and make them enjoy learning. Although I wish everything could be a fun learning activity such as a game or project, I do realize there are times when worksheets and tests are needed. That is the way of life, but the best teachers can get students excited about those activities as well when they are creative and engaging teachers; as I have seen in student teaching through my cooperating teachers. This is what I expect to be like as a future teacher, creative and engaging to the point that taking a test sounds like fun. I have seen others do it, I know it is possible, and that is an extremely successful teacher in my
Most people have or have had a teacher that has inspired them. For me, the teacher that comes to mind is Mr. Rod Edson. There are many great things that describe Mr. Edson, but a few stand out to me more than others. Mr. Edson has inspired me in many ways because he has a great sense of humor, he is laid-back, and he is motivational.
I have been working on my academic career for many years now. I am currently in my third year of community college, and have come across multiple teachers who have helped and inspired me in many ways. A teacher not only teaches the content of their course, but life skills as well. They are kind, caring, considerate, and understanding of their students. A teacher who goes above and beyond for their students is one that will make a difference. One teacher who I believe has made all the difference to me, was my accounting professor.
My high school art teacher, Jackie Tingle, inspired me to create and further my education in art. Through her constructive criticism and her wonderful teaching skills she easily allowed me to develop my own skills as an artist. In a world full of two-dimensional characters, I found it amazing that she was a successful artist. Before I met her, I did not know it was even remotely possible to have a career in art. To this day, I still have respect for her and how she carries herself. Even at times when students treated her disrespectfully she remained professional.
I am looking to join Teach For America because I am interested in exploring a possible career in education but also in giving back to my community in a significant way. As a recent graduate, exploring opportunities that help me decided the best possible career choice is a priority. Teach For America provides hands on approach for me to really understand what is required to be successful. I look forward to meeting the high expectations that TFA has. As the first in my family to graduate from college, I understand some of the various obstacles that are present in our current educational system. But I have also been fortunate enough to benefit from the work of those looking to make education more accessible to everybody. I am inspired by the positive
My middle school theatre teacher, Mrs. Julie Groover, is the teacher who has inspired me the most. She serves as the director for the middle school musicals, as well as a full-time theatre teacher. She is kindhearted and industrious, and she serves as a wonderful role model to her students.
I believe Teach For America would allow me to inspire families and their children to learn and embrace education. As a young child born of immigrant parents, living in Southern California’s Coachella Valley, I experienced the transition from a low-income community to a mid-income community. My experience has allowed me to understand the challenges families from low-earning neighborhoods face. I have seen firsthand the disparity between two different socioeconomic classes and it is clear that they need support.
I am extremely interesting in Teach For America because I live by the motto, "Be who you needed when you were younger". I am a first generation Mexican-American student from the inner city of Toledo, Ohio and attended a public school district where 80 percent of students receive free/reduced lunch and the graduation rate is 49 percent. The lack of academic preparation left me adrift at a university with rigorous academics, such as Ohio State. As a young girl growing up on the east side of Toledo, there were many mentors who encouraged me to do better and ensured where I was born was not where I must remain. I'd like to do the same with other children living in poverty and assist them in overcoming obstacles that present themselves in their
Have you ever had someone who has greatly inspired you to be successful? In the movie “Stand and Deliver,” the teacher, Jaime Escalante, teaches math to his students at Garfield High School. In his class, there are gang members and some of students that drop out of school. Some of his students are not paying attention in class when he first teaches. He wants all his students to pass the math class. He tries to help them do better on an exam and succeed to be able to graduate. He believes that his students could learn if they have motivations. In the movies “Stand and Deliver,” Jaime Escalante influences his students is similar to my teacher, Mrs. Aguirre, who has positively influenced me by wanting me to pass the class, telling me to never
When I think of an inspirational teacher, the thought of a strong confident woman that dedicates the majority of her time and energy to me and my fellow teammates is inspirational. Mrs. Mantey has been one of my biggest motivators, and role models for years.
The teacher that inspires me the most is Mr.Pritchard (Jeremiah Pritchard). He teaches Revolution Show choir at Lake Forest Middle School. When I made show choir, I had no idea how much Mr.Pritchard would change my life. Mr.Pritchard encourages every student to be passionate, caring and to hold on to the light when the world seems so cold and dark. He pushes each and every kid to their full potential and doesn’t let us give up. He sincerely cares about each and every student. If something is wrong, he knows without you saying a single word. He knows by the way you smile or just the look in your eyes. Mr.Pritchard is a wonderful educator and is all around an amazing person in and out of school walls.
My teacher truly inspired me to become a someone like her. I was once in AP Language and Composition and the class began with our teacher talking about the education system and how a famous author William Bennett talks about how teachers are the main problem with our education system, but she then brought up an amazing point; no one speaks about how teachers are treated in the education system, they mainly focus on the students. My teacher then began by sharing her experience as a newly admitted teacher to colored school at such a young age. She said they handed me my advisory book, some papers, and told she never seen them again. Those people that gave her the papers were the principals and the principals left her stranded on a island filled with animals willing to eat her because they didn't know better and were hungry. The only help she really had was other teachers, but were they there to help, NO! As my teacher told this story I began thinking to myself, wow their actually is two sides to a story and fallacies could really convince
As Hunter Rawlings noted, “Professors need to inspire, to prod, to irritate, to create engaging environments that enable learning to take place that can’t happen simply from reading books or watching films or surfing the Web”. I agree with Rawlings and this statement. Professors should and need to engage and be enthusiastic with their students. Good teachers “supply oxygen” to their classrooms, in the words of former Emory University president Bill Chace. Some kids feeds of the energy of the professors. I believe the ways teachers teach will show in the student’s works. It helps the students and motivates them to learn at a high level and also helps their critical thinking skills. A teacher
