Why should we care is a question that many people end up asking. Earth’s average temperature has increased by at least 2 degrees Fahrenheit in the past century and scientists expect it to go up to about 12 degrees Fahrenheit in the next. To us, those numbers seem quite small, but the average temperature a couple centuries ago was 4 degrees lower than it is today, allowing ice caps to stay ice caps. As the temperature increases, ice caps start to melt resulting in the rising of sea levels. With the sea rising, storms are becoming more and more frequent and stronger. High sea levels also cause torrential rains and flooding which threatens us as humans, wildlife and nature.
Disasters occur naturally, but climate change causes them to be more violent and more unpredictable. Climate change also makes it more likely that a natural disaster will happen. “The kind of surge related flooding that Superstorm Sandy brought to parts of New York City is about 50 percent more likely than it was in 1950” (Borenstein). Flooding on coast lines can be caused by the melting of the polar ice caps. The thing that causes the polar ice caps to melt is the rising temperature of the atmosphere. The melting of the polar ice caps is bad because it raises the level of the ocean. When the level of the ocean is raised it can cause less land to be by the ocean. Another way the rising temperatures of the Earth is catastrophic is the harm it does to some national parks. There are several national parks that are getting hit the hardest. A couple that are affected are Glacier National Park, and Joshua Tree National Park. “Across the West, bark beetles, which thrive on warmer winters, are infesting more and more pine trees, turning once-green hillsides into fire hazards” (Duncan). This is a problem because trees are major producers of oxygen, and they help take the carbon monoxide, that we breath, out of the air. Even though there is a lot of evidence that climate change is man made, there are still people who deny it and say that it occurs
The Ice Age was the mark of the extinction of life in that time. What was the end result would lead to many discoveries by man that is still to this day yielding more data, information on what happened in that time. Living organisms being trapped in the asphalt for 11,000 to 50,000 years being perfectly preserved in rocks. The oldest of the fossils according to La Brea Tar Pits museum, that dire wolves, saber-toothed cat from Pit 91 each dated back to 44,000 years old. An coyote from Pit A is dated 46,000 years these dates estimated based on carbon-14 remains of specimens [Tarpits.org]. The whole museum ( and Los Angeles) was a crucial discovery point, the underground reveals hundreds of thousands of fossils perfectly in an protective shell from the Ice Age. In the 19th century a lake was mined at Rancho La Brea in Los Angeles the museum has a vast examples of what transpired with the fossils as the blueprint to history.
Winter temperatures usually rise during the day and drop at night. When cold weather freezes the parking lot, several things occur beneath the surface. Cracks will expand, and the cracks can damage vehicles. A business owner has to maintain his parking lot. Snow and ice can obscure cracks that would normally be visible. Business owners need to be aware of the various things that can damage commercial property. Specifically, how freezing cold temperatures can damage an asphalt parking lot. This knowledge will help business owners circumvent potential problems and avoid spending a large sum of money on repairs.
Ice caps in Antarctica are melting at an alarming rate. This will eventually cause the sea level to raise to levels never seen before, which will cause flooding in many countries, interrupt trade and affect social stability around the world. All countries in one way or another will be affected, so we must all come together to fight global warming in an effort to prevent it from happening or at least slow it down as much as possible. Developed nations like the United States, France, United Kingdom, and Germany among others are economically superior to developing countries and therefore should take the lead in solving this problem. These countries should lead by example by enacting laws that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and investing
This happens because of the gases emitted into Earth’s atmosphere keeping too much heat inside of Earth. Global temperature rise impacts climate because as the temperature continues to rise, it is causing extreme events to occur, because they feed off of heat. Droughts are being seen more frequently because of global temperature rise. Currently major droughts are occurring in the U.S. every 20 years, but if the temperature continues to rise as it is projected, these major droughts will happen every 2 to 3 years. This is concerning, because if more gases are continuing to be emitted globally, the “blanket” that these gases (such as Carbon dioxide) form will continue to trap more and more heat as time goes on, and it will make the global temperature much greater in the future, and then more extreme events will continue to form. Extreme events are happening more frequently than they ever have before. The U.S. has experienced increasing numbers of intense rainfall each year, and hurricanes are starting to reach level 5 each hurricane
Imagine a world without no seasons no change in the weather, the only weather is HOT. You say not bad it's summer all the time no snow no fall cool air, well you are wrong it would affect this world more then you can ever imagine, and global warming is happening as I speak. Ice caps are starting to melt around the world greenland and antarctica are losing ice everyday. The greenhouse gases are more abundant than ever, trapping gasses in our atmosphere. The average global temperature is on the rise, no telling on how much it will go up. Global warming is no joke it is a growing issue and could change this world for the worse.
¨My mother once told me that even though things look bad, there's a rainbow around every corner¨-by Sid the sloth, Typically as a rule, a great movie earns awards. “Ice Age” was nominated for a total of 31 awards but only won 5 awards. On the website IMDB says the awards won are, bmi film music award, bogey award in plating, Best Animated Movie of the Year, kcfcc. Many thought the movie small movie budget would mean the movie wouldn't do so well, but the movie still did pretty well and won awards. According to imdb website from critic Joe Leydon said “An entertaining story that, while not terribly original, is sufficiently arresting and often laugh-out-loud funny”. This movie won the most awards compared to most of the ice age movies, but even
Generally speaking, why should we even be worrying about climate change? Well as we all know the world is getting hotter and hotter every year due to the amount of carbon dioxide and other fossil fuel being released into the atmosphere. Due to the world getting hotter both Antarctica and Greenland are changing rapidly. According to NASA “with global warming, the water under the ice shelves would be warmer and cause them to break up more readily, forming very large icebergs. If the ice shelves of West Antarctica were to break up, this would release more inland ice in an irreversible process, possibly leading to sea level rises of several meters”. With the amount of water increasing, this could lead to many natural disasters such as a flood,
Climate change is not only going to affect animals — rising sea levels may even start displacing people in their own land (and it has already begun), and it could reach a point where 1 in every 45 people may become a refugee of climate change.
Task 1- The purpose of this video was to show people the importance of the ice caps and to show that they have been melting over the years. The audience for this video was really everyone. Anyone who is willing to listen needs to know that there is such a thing as global warming and without theses ice caps our earth would not be able to work as efficiently as it is now with the remaining ice caps that we have now. This video accomplished giving the audience good information.
Coastal cities all around the world are quite precious to the countries to which they belong. Small and large cities on the water can accumulate massive amounts of income for countries, with most of it coming from tourists. Unfortunately, these cities are at risk of shrinking in size as a result of rising seawater levels. Along with less land for those cities to bring in money, it would cost millions of dollars to relocate the buildings and homes built there. Due to rising average temperatures of the earth, thermal expansion of water, along with melting ice caps, is causing the seawater levels to rise, which is threatening coastline cities such as New York City and Venice, Italy.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which includes more than 1,300 scientists from the United States and other countries, forecasts a temperature rise of 2.5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century”(NASA). With global warming and climate change number our time. 2.5 to 10 degrees may not seem to look like a big deal, but it is. “Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves”(NASA). These are just some of the problems that are happening on
The average temperature is expected to rise over time. With the temperature slowly rising, icebergs are melting in Antarctica which is causing polar bears to have to move. Snow and ice cover has been decreasing a lot already. Sea levels are also rising, if sea levels are rising that can cause floods. More and more floods, droughts, and heat waves have been occurring more than one hundred years ago. With all of these natural disasters happening more often, the human race is having
In the distant future, stronger hurricanes, tsunamis, and tornados are going hit us. In the history of our planet, when the global temperature was 1°C higher, due to Earth's spin axis, there were giant waves strong enough to throw 1000 ton mega boulders out of the sea (Hansen 2016). A study completed in 2015 shows that hurricanes such as Hurricane Katrina may become a more common appearance. (Hall, Hereid 2015). The thousands of homes and lives lost from these storms will indefinitely impede with human advancement.
Imagine not being able to see outside or imagine having to life in a shelter because the world outside has changed so much it's not as inhabitable as it once was. Climate change is impacting the earth in various ways that will eventually cause the earth to become uninhabitable due to the harmful impacts, to the negative effects to the environment, and how the humans and animals are getting impacted just the as the rest of the world. Humans must immediately address climate change in order to ensure survival of all living things that are on earth.
