The aboriginal people live in reserves that are rich in minerals like oil and gas. Their traditional beliefs cannot allow them to benefit from an economic venture like mining. They believe that Mother Nature should and needs to be protected. In a bid to do so, they have rules against exploitation of nature like modern mining. This puts their traditional values at odds with economical developments like mining. This leaves them in a dilapidated state as poverty kicks in (Wilson and Macdonald, 2000). Aboriginal people should be educated on the importance of independence. The communal ownership of and should be banned and people made to own land individually. A system to inform aboriginals about the importance of independence to development should be kick started. Instead of receiving government aid, they aboriginals should be able to fend for themselves. The government could also be impelled to open up financial institutions owned and controlled by the aboriginal people. This way, they can become self-sufficient as they invest and hence influence their economic growth in a positive manner (Wilson and Macdonald, 2000). Discrimination Aboriginal communities in Canada face a lot of discrimination in respect to their descent. This stereotyping happens in all aspects of life. Aboriginal children at school become victims of abuse, and bullying due to their culture. It is said that the overall number of children who face discrimination in high school and college is twice that which Latino and black-American’s face. At workplaces, aboriginal people are denied employment by stereotypical employers. The most definitive way in which aboriginals in Canada face discrimination is from the Government system.
