Stock Market Game Simulation

In the beginning of the stock market game I bought only stocks in only 5 different companies, those companies were all companies that I was familiar with. The five companies were Apple, American Eagle, Costco, Disney and Hershey. I bought Apple stock because who doesn’t think of Apple when they think of big companies with a lot of money.

In order to succeed in any business, it is extremely important to understand the stock market. In this assignment we were asked to follow the stock market continuously for four months and understand the market. The stock market is a global marketplace, where goods and services are traded in the form of equities.

The company does a lot of technology work. The best stock i had was Microsoft. I bought 111 shares of it and it went up 4.41% since i bought it. I made a total of $260 off of it. This was the stock that i had originally wanted to invest all my money into but i backed out of my plan and invested into multiple stocks to decrease my risk. The reason i had invested into seven stocks was that i knew some would drop and some would gain so i wanted to balance out my money that way if one stock started doing really bad i would have another one doing good, decreasing my risk. When i bought my stocks i decided that i would just leave them alone and see how the gain or decrease. I didn't want to keep selling and buying more. This strategy didn't work out so well because my US oil stock dropped so low. i should've sold it when it was reasonable and bout something that would make me money. Later down the road that stock would make me a lot of money when the price of oil goes up and that why i think i kept it instead of selling

The first step when partaking in any type of a game is to decide what one’s strategy will be. The strategy that I had to determine was what my investment philosophy was going to be. In this game, my willingness to take risk was greater than it would have been if we would have been using real currency. My risk tolerance would fall between moderate and aggressive.

The stock market is a great way to buy part of a company & gain or loose money depending on how the company is making money buy buying a share. “The stock market is owning a small piece of the company; the stock market is owning a piece of a business” (Christie 5). Therefore, investing in the stocks is a great idea when prices are high. Furthermore, it is a hard job to keep up with everything needed to know for the job. The “Stock Market” is a term that actually describes several markets such as the New York Stock Exchange NASDAQ, where the stocks of companies are traded. Shares in a company are sold and the shareholders then become part owners of the company. Offering shares of stock raises money for continued research and development of company products or services.

The Stock Market Project is to teach students about how a stock market works. This will help them develop great understanding of it and could have an easier way of monitoring their money. It is important that one understands how the stock market works before they invest their money into it. While doing this project it will give a sense of experience to the students that do so. Help them comprehend what the future will bring them if they do decide to invest their money in a corporation one day.

Playing the stock market game taught me how to invest through trading with stocks among companies. I believe that it would give me insight in the future when I’m dealing with real-life investments giving me the knowledge of buying, selling, shorting, and covering. Using actual money rather than theoretical money seems quite scary when it’s lost whenever it’s unpredictable where the money will end up. In my opinion, I think that the main purpose of the game is to demonstrate the reality of stocks and how they function. Even though the game was fake, it gave me real worries about the chances that I could have made either losing it or winning it. Although I did not win, it did give the experiences that I need for my daily life. I should instead go with my instincts

The stocks I brought were growth stocks, values stocks, and income stock. Investing in growth stock will allow my share within the company to be more profitable, because the companies’ profits are reinvested creating a substantial amount of cash flow within the company. I brought value stock, because there are companies that I believe will be worth investing in for their long-term growth. I could diversify between different companies ranging from most popular to unpopular. Finally yet importantly income stock, which will gradually grow during my time horizon to offset inflations within my stocks. Purchasing these three types of stocks will allow me to split up my initial $100,000 fund into the industries I am going to invest in.

Throughout the Wall Street Survivor investment simulation, the investment strategy used was constant from start to finish. The strategy was to buy the market, which entailed buying multiple shares of different index funds some of which were: The Dow, The Vanguard 500, The S&P 500 and many more. An index consist of a portfolio of securities that depict a particular portion of a market. Index funds increase in value when the amount of rising stocks outweigh the number of decreasing stocks yielding a return of some sort. In taking the risk of buying the whole market, all of the indices purchased would lower our losses due to some of our indices betting against each other. This safety insurance was conducted through the purchase of VIX and VIXH which would make money in most scenarios. The reason for buying shares in these companies was that VIXH shorts VIX and other indices which in theory means selling shares that an investor doesn’t have to make cash. Coming into the is assignment I knew a few things about the stock market such as when it opens and closes,to always buy low and sell high. I knew there was trading fees but this game did not include it into the trades. I had a few stocks in mind that

The Stock Market is a vast and confusing setting. It has influence on many aspects of the economy like pensions, bond markets, and even retirement accounts. However, many aren 't educated about how the Stock market works, how it affects the economy, the difference between stocks versus bond and mutual funds, nor the amount of illegal activities taking part within the stock market.

In oligopoly market, each firm has substantial market power with high degree of interdependence. The key for success in a oligopoly market is to gain more market share than the competitors. Increasing the price can lead to loss of market share to the competitors, so in the oligopoly market, if a firm decreases the price, the other firms will always follow, but if a firm increase the price, the other firms will not follow. The demand curve is kinked.

Over the past semester in Economics I have invested in and monitored the stock market. I learned how investing in certain companies can be risky and proper research about the companies are detrimental before buying stocks. Three stocks that have influenced most of my financial earnings and losses include Twitter, Amazon, and Pepsi.

This intention of this project is to simulate a stock exchange environment for  users to learn the basics of stock exchange. This learning process can be simple, stress free, and enjoyable in a gaming environment.  This environment allows players to hone their skills through competition with other players using virtual money to  buy and sell stocks based on a real stock market. Each player can to formulate their own strategy and assess their performance through our user-friendly, web based stock exchange simulator.  Through experience, players will gain confidence in their investing abilities using a variety of stock exchange techniques, which have been implemented in our software.  We hope to make the difficult task of learning to invest in a high risk, stock exchange market an enjoyable experience.
