In Leadership Coaching, the second key of caching is to make great questions for the client. The types of elements to make great questions are open, asking bigger questions, solution- oriented, probing, direct, revealing and ownership each one of these have a particular task to ask the client at appropriate times (Stoltzfus, 2005). Questions help the coach to focus the conversation where the client needs to explore further and to dig deeper to gain a clearer picture for his or her motivation (Stolzfus, 2005). Open questions help to keep the client in control and assist the coach in gathering more information to help the client to find his or her discontent (Stolzfus, 2005). With open questions helps the client to think out loud and walk through
In his “Seven Lessons of Leadership,” David Gergen claims that “leadership starts from within.” This statement attributes leadership quality to the background of the leader. With sound ethics, a leader has a base for his or her actions. Alice Paul was intelligent, insatiably curious, and persistent beyond compare. These character traits originated in her childhood. Paul was brought up with Quaker traditions, which emphasized “self reliance, humility, probity, and service.” They encourage academic excellence and athleticism more than regular society. The highlighting of these values shaped Paul for her future (pg 5). Furthermore, Paul’s parents played a role in the assembly of her character. William Paul, her father, was harsh and unfriendly.
There are two kinds of people in this world, followers and leaders. Followers are the people that never take a leadership role in any activity. "They are more valued by followers and have higher performing teams." (Cherry 2014) However, leaders are the ones that use their leadership skills to make a difference in this world, such as presidents, teachers, or even college graduates. Leadership is not something you can learn from a book, but you have to gain this skill through experiences such as holding an office, organizing an event, speaking in front of people, or participating in a leadership program.
Coaching leaders help employees by identifying their unique strengths and weaknesses. They encourage employees to establish long-term goals. Coaching style is used least often because many leaders don’t have time to teach people and help them grow. Studies have shown that leaders who have mastered four our more especially the authoritative, democratic, affiliative and coaching styles have the best climate and business performance. I believe in order to master the art of leadership we need to comprehensively understand human behavior and have the ability to adapt. Leadership styles can lead to different types of success, as mentioned in the article leadership will never be an exact science. But neither is it a complete mystery. I believe that the business environment is continually changing, all leaders have to respond. Leaders must know when to use the right style at the right time to gain success. Although not all skills are equally effective leaders could use multiple styles at one time to gain success. For example leaders could use the authoritative style to mobilize people towards a vision while at the same time creating bonds and harmony through the affiliative
Cognitive Coaching provides a potential end to teacher isolation and strives to improve teacher efficacy by “helping teachers expand their repertoire of teaching styles by exploring untapped resources within themselves” (Dildy, 2001). However, most school districts have New Teaching Programs seldom use the cognitive coaching method. Most school districts assign a mentor and require new teachers to attend monthly
Leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders. This quote by Tom Peters best summarizes my philosophy of teacher leadership. As a teacher leader, it is up to me to inspire, direct, and encourage others so that stronger teacher, administrative, and student leaders may be born from the process. Teacher leadership involves collaboration between teachers, administrators, and teacher leaders with the goal of positively impacting the student learning environment. With student learning as the ultimate objective, teacher leadership “becomes an indispensable avenue for school improvement” (Coggins & McGovern, 2014, p. 21). So how do I as a teacher leader begin this process? I believe that teacher leadership can be achieved through three means: modeling, mentoring, and collaborating.
My belief is that the whole focus should be on the children. Their dreams and achievements. The primary focus should be on instruction, and teaching the children the right ways. Not only to learn, but to set a good example of the behavior that should be exhibited in the classroom, and beyond.
Most clients that come to leadership coaching tend to be proactive and take their growth and development seriously. They are
Thus, we can define leadership as a coaching model, or a framework to use as an underlying structure to build teamwork, confidence, improve performance and behavior, and in most any aspect (business, education, sports, etc.) utilize these theories as a way to actualize goals. Because humans are so unique and individualized, there are a number of theories from which to draw from and most agree that the integration of a multidisciplinary approach and field of knowledge is what allows one to become both more tactical and strategic.
The University of Toledo Levis Leadership program prides itself with creating leaders. The program focuses on giving students with leadership potential the knowledge, skills, and tools to become leaders not only on campus but in their future careers. For me, the proof of this method of producing leadership is shown by the upperclassmen in the program. As a freshman, the upperclassmen are my role models, and I rely on them to set an example of what I can do with my developing leadership. When I met with my LUT mentor, Emma Diesing, earlier in the semester, she set an incredibly high standard for leadership. She is so inspiring because she is only a sophomore and has already achieved so much at the University of Toledo. So when it came to choosing a student leader on campus to interview, I knew she was absolutely the right person to ask.
Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my self-assessment compares to the perception of others.
For this assessment, the industry is defined as the handful of top business schools within the world that provide elite MBA degrees to Executives.
In a business there are several different factors, and attributes that can excel or hinder a company’s environmental and economic success. Most people believe that a business’s longevity relies solely on its profits and regulations, when in actuality, it is the coaching and the leadership of the business. In fact, coaching and leadership are the greatest attributes that accumulate to a company’s success, but if they are abused, or misused, they can cause severe damage to the company’s well-being. For this paper I will be covering the topics of coaching and leadership in the workplace and will be giving different types of styles for both concepts. I will also evaluate the correlation between the two and will give several examples throughout to help comprehend the topics. I will then explain how these attributes can be abused and can cause more harm to a company than good. I will conclude my paper by highlighting all of the main points throughout the paper, and then give my own opinion on the subject.
Effective school leadership today must combine the traditional school leadership duties such as teacher evaluation, budgeting, scheduling, and facilities maintenance with a deep involvement with specific aspects of teaching and learning. Effective instructional leaders are intensely involved in curricular and instructional issues that directly affect student achievement (Cotton, 2003). The writer of this paper acknowledges that school principals should play the role of instructional leaders, not just a school manager. The reality is that are many demands on a principals time and management skills making it difficult for most of them to spend time in classrooms, when performing teacher evaluation. Principals often make sure that teachers

The conclusion summarizes all the topics under discussion.
The concept and practice of teacher leadership have gained momentum in the past two decades. Teachers are assuming more leadership functions at both instructional and organizational levels of practice. Empirical literature reveals effects of teacher leadership practice, teacher leader characteristics, and conditions that promote and challenge teacher leadership.
