Mass shootings have been at the top of the headlines recently in the United States. These shootings are causing a major impact on those who reside in America. Something must be done immediately to bring down the frequency of these shootings so that one can be safe anywhere. There are many ways to stop this devastation that is bringing America to tears, but the most effective is to have stricter gun laws in the country. Control laws must be more harsh in order for there to be a decrease in mass shootings across the country.

Some Americans feel that because guns are already regulated in so many other countries, America should just follow suit, while others believe guns both represent and help guarantee our independence, our liberty, and our freedom to make our own decisions. The founding fathers anticipated that gun control could become a serious issue in the future, so they added the Second Amendment to the Constitution. The Second Amendment states: “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.“ Most gun control activists focus in isolation on the beginning of the amendment where the founders wrote that a well-regulated militia is necessary to the security of a free state. They then try to argue that only the military or the National Guard should have access to guns, not individuals. In so arguing, however, they completely ignore the last part of the Second Amendment, which provides that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The founders obviously envisioned that the people would keep and use firearms to protect themselves and their country. Unfortunately many politicians don’t see it that way. Stricter gun laws are required to reduce casualties caused by gun violence. People have right to own guns base on the 2nd amendment of the U.S constitution. According to “Background on Gun Control” 91% percent of Americans say that there should be least minor restrictions on gun ownership. However, research shown that children who died after being accidentally shot has increased from 140 in 1996 up to 259 in 2012 every year. In my opinion, the U.S government should increase stricter gun regulations on background check; mental examination and safety trainings to prevent misfiring that cause death and injuries among our friends and family.

Because of many incidents involving handguns, and any other type of gun, the government has been trying to push a gun ban law. As a result of this rumor and possible law, there have been numerous outbursts of support and resistance. Some people believe that banning firearms would be a benefit to our nation’s safety and its population’s safety, while others oppose this proposal and say that guns are not the ones that need to be controlled, people should be the ones that are controlled. The American people support gun control in the specific concerns of having background checks for all gun sales, banning sales for people that have mental illnesses, having the federal government track gun sales through out the country, and banning all assault firearms. According to the fifth paragraph 85% of the population supports background checks for all guns sales, 79% of the country is in favor for a bill to ban the mentally ill from purchasing firearms, and 70% would like to see the federal government track the gun sales of the nation.

America needs stricter measures on gun usage because other countries have clearly shown that it is possible to have a much lower percentage of gun-related violence. The obvious changes that America needs to improve on are stricter gun-control laws, and a system of education before people are allowed to own guns.

Gun violence has gotten out of hand. People are able to get them and use them on others with little to any resistance. Although many people think the laws should be changed to fit this generation, it’s harder than it sounds. It takes a lot of thought and agreement to amend laws. Even if they could be amended to being stricter, all citizens wouldn't be willing to follow them. Stricter gun control laws, which would be difficult to agree on, would not be effective in controlling gun ownership/availability and would be hard to enforce.

Gun control is one of those topics that people talk about when something terrible happens, but end up forgetting why they were talking about it in a week. Whenever there is a mass shooting in this country people and politicians alike gets outraged and demand for additional gun control laws but in our requirement for a 24 hour news cycle people just move onto the next big thing. In an attempt to get more viewers the media pass from controversy to controversy without doing actual journalistic research. I would like to break that pattern by taking an very subjective look into why I think the United States should have more strict gun control.

Gun control activists oppose all the factual statistics that have ever been proven they do this because they are denying the truth that guns will cause more good that harm. Theses activists have their minds made up because no matter who says what or what happens they are negative on guns, despite the facts. Now there are 31 states that have non-discretionary concealed gun carry laws that allow law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns for protection in public, even this can't change their minds.

Over time politicians are always looking for new things to make laws about and regulate. This is no different with guns. Overall the democratic party tends to be in favor of stricter gun laws, with wanting more regulations placed on legal ownership of firearms rather than criminals. The Republican party has tended to be less focused on restricting gun ownership. The first politician that comes to mind when I think of gun regulations is Kevin de Leon from the California Senate. He is very left wing and very uninformed when it comes to guns. Opponents of gun control believe that having a gun beside them will help keep them safer and potentially save their life one day. Gun control laws are need for womans especially, to help keep them safe from stalkers and domestic abusers. Additionally, opponents of gun control fear that not having guns could one day affect them and their loved ones and leave them helpless against someone with a weapon that could kill or threaten their lives. On the other hand, Proponents of gun control believe that having guns could give rise to more crimes and violence. The opposition thinks that the Second Amendment gives them not only the opportunity to own gun but the right to as well. They believe that not having guns can make our environment much safer. Research and anecdotal evidence shows that both these effective claims are correct in the right situations but those situations don't always happen. So the question becomes what happens in those wrong situations? We all know that the safety of ourselves and our loved ones should be a top priority as human beings, but the methods we use to ensure that must be the correct one. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them.
