Student Learning Expectation #1: Catholic Values Essential Question: Is your Catholic Identity showing? Does my Catholic Identity go beyond the school walls? What defines Catholicity? Does being a Catholic only mean being a person who attends mass on a regular basis and observes the rules that the Church tells them to follow? There are so many angles and perspectives that one person has the ability to look at the term “Catholicity” as. For me, being a true Catholic involves being in touch with my Catholic Identity. The very being of myself, from the way that I behave towards other people to my thoughts and thinking, is what makes up my Catholic Identity. As a student of a Catholic school and as a Catholic, it’s my responsibility to show other …show more content…
Praying is how I’m able to have conversations with God and really be able to make him apart of my regular life. What I’ve learned over time is that my prayers never fall upon deaf ears. He’s there in the times that I need it the most. I’ve found that my prayers have become more meaningful and less forced over time. One of the evidence that I’ve found was in Fifth Grade when the Sandy Hooks Elementary shooting happened. I wrote a prayer for the youngest victims of the attack. I also wrote about protecting the children that died during the attack and comforting the relatives of those children. This showed that I was fulfilling the expectation to integrate prayer into my daily life and ultimately showed my Catholic identity. Through that prayer, I was able to learn more about how I can connect to God and have conversations with him in different ways. This piece of evidence shows the fulfillment of Student Learning Expectation #1C, which is a life of Christian prayer. This prayer shows that I’ve had a logical understanding of my relationship with God. I believe that I’ve shown …show more content…
When God created human beings, he gave us the responsibility to take care of his creation. Through nurturing and preserving what God has given the world, I am putting to action my Catholic identity. For my evidence for Kindergarten year, I’ve found an assignment that was captioned, “God, I want to be a saint. This is what I will do to show my love for you and for others.” In that time, my idea of stewardship was not being destructive to plants or being mean to creation in general. Although I had a very simple idea of how stewardship would show love for God and for others, I know that this showed some type of understanding of my Catholic values in the perspective of a six-year-old. I’ve found that it shows an understanding of what the Church has been teaching me. As I said before, the Catholic Social Teachings is an important part of the structure of my faith. Through showing my respect and responsibility of stewardship through this piece of evidence, I was showing that I understood an important part of my Catholic
“Prayer is essential in the Christian's life. Without it efforts to witness will be far less effective, and will be far more vulnerable to the enemy. When witnessing, the support of the Lord is needed. Fellowship with the Lord is required for evangelism to be successful. Prayer makes this all possible.” (Slick 2015)
how people live their lives in the way God wants them to. For Christians, prayer is a tool that is used for guidance, spiritually and personally through all the challenges that Satan brings. In the school system, prayer lays a foundation that is upheld with the values taught there. Understanding that school and spiritual life is on two different spectrums,
In an effort to strengthen my prayer life, I looked for guidance to help me improve in this area. I found a book called Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer by Max Lucado, Thomas Nelson 2014. My life was changed through the “Pocket Prayer” he suggested. Moreover, Max talked about the way we perceive God. Although, He is our creator, he is also our Father who longs to talk to us in the same way we would talk to our earthly daddy.
My parents have always said that any kind of prayer can have a positive impact. Ever since then, I became very passionate in citing my prayers to the point that I prayed for everyone regardless of our relationship. The prayers were not specific to an individual’s need but instead focused on issues they were experiencing at home or work per our conversations and through my own observations. The thirty-days of prayer assignment help to rekindle my desire to passionately pray for others and myself. The leaders I identified for thirty days of prayer consisted of family, friends and mentors. Citing the passages prior to praying help structure my time with God and allowed me to include the needs of the leaders who have impacted by
it seemed to me that if there are other people like me who are drawn to, and uncertain about ‘why prayer’ that there might be value in going though it step by step, seriously, yet with a light heart
Growing up Catholic and attending parochial school from kindergarten through my senior year of high school meant that religion was constantly around me. However, in contrast to this academic setting, God was absent from my daily life. Although they sent me to a Catholic school and insisted I attend mass every Sunday, my parents never once mentioned God, prayer, or spirituality within the home. These
The development of Catholic understanding is expressed through Cristian doctrines and features of Catholic communal life. Catholic Christianity raises and attempts to answer questions of ultimate meaning and value through “rule of faith” and Catholic worship. Sacraments are a part of Catholic worship as they are involved in the liturgical life within church. The rule of faith is a community’s measurement of someone’s faith. The kerygma is six discourses that are referred to as “proclamation” and summarize Christian faith (125). Some of the ultimate meaning and value questions include: what is the ultimate meaning of Jesus Christ; what is the ultimate meaning behind baptism; and how is the liturgy a part of Catholic value these questions will be answered through information provided in Cunningham’s text.
In the last century, environmentalism has become an important and highly polarizing topic of social discourse as the rise of industrialization as spread across the world. More and more human beings have become aware of their impact on the environment, yet even this seems to be up for debate. However, those who are concerned with environmental issues like global warming, the depletion of natural resources, and pollution have gained a more clear and organized voice to not only raise awareness, but enact both higher and lower level change. Within these movements, different religious institutions (churches, denominations, temples) have used drawn on their religious narratives to understand what “creation care” and stewardship truly mean. The
If we take a moment and reminisce on the positives of involving praying in our schools, you will notice the following benefits; it invites God into our daily activities, it can enhance good grades, reminds our kids how to act, and it promotes peace among our pairs. The scripture states we should put God first in everything that we do. Prayer humbles the heart in so many ways. In order to comprehend, you need to have a relationship with him.
Prayer represents an individual’s attempt to communicate with the supernatural (Stark and Finke 2000), as well as oneself and others (Ladd and Sphilka 2002, 2006).
Having attended a Catholic church in my adolescence, it was there I learned of prayer and how to conduct it. Prayer was different for me then. I had not interest in staying quiet for minutes on end, continuously standing and kneeling. It was irritating, especially for a restless soul like myself. After reading the description for this week 's essay I decided to take a second swing at prayer - but in my own way.
Prayer is a vital part of life, for though this avenue, we contact the Creator of the universe and receive divine help, guidance and protection. Prayer is talking to God. But it is also receiving answers from God. In order for prayer to be effective, we must learn the power of faith. Believing prayer experiences results, because when we believe God and pray with confidence, we place ourselves in position to get God 's attention and response.
What can and will be viewed as an important part to enhance the effectiveness of a student’s learning; educators, software vendors and a student’s parents have supported the notion of involving technology into the classroom. This notion is increasingly valid in the area of post-secondary education where students primarily young adults, have to pay high amounts of tuition in the goal of obtaining a degree and obtain skills to translate into landing a job in a very competitive market. A now common tool among post-secondary institutions to aid students is the use of learning objects. For this research assignment, I will
The results of the current study suggest that there are various responses given by the teachers. 10 teachers were selected from two schools and participated in the interviews were taken place. When asked the teacher’s what the outcome of their expectations are on the student’s motivation, five of the teachers responded by saying that they think that high expectations are important, because they thought that it will increase and have a bigger impact on the students. Three of the teachers responded in saying that teachers should not have expectations that are too high as it may demotivate students if the expectations are not at the right level for the students. Also 3 out of the 10 teachers also responded that teacher expectations are not important as students should take responsibility for their own learning and achievement.
Metacognition has been described by Soiferman (2015c) as thinking about thinking. To go more in depth than that, metacognition is one’s ability to understand what they know and how to adjust and improve their own learning. This can be done by teaching students to recognize how it is they think and learn and giving them the resources necessary to self-monitor their own progress, thereby allowing them to see improvement and adjust their methods as they see fit to continue improving. The ways in which metacognition can help improve a student’s learning is by allowing students to find out what kind of learning method is best suited to them, how to adapt to different teaching methods, and teaching them how to self-monitor their own learning.
