STUDY SKILLS And WORK BASED LEARNING
1. INTRODUCTION
The use of study skills and work based learning, help students to learn effectively as well as to achieve better grades in school/universities. This report indicates the importance and benefits of study skills and work-based learning, which will enable students to feel more confident when learning to achieve their goals. Studying is a very difficult issue for students in this modern age, this is because, there is a lot of information from the Internet, textbooks, journals etc. for them to process therefore having an easy way of processing, and understanding and memorising information is very essential.
2. WHAT ARE STUDY SKILLS
Study skills is defined as skills or strategies that are applied to learning to enable students to understand what they are learning and how they can use the information effectively in their studies. (Ty). When studying, it is helpful to acknowledge your personal approach towards learning and to observe your own leaning style. Learning style simply means your unique way to learn e.g. visual learner (use of images to understand information), auditory (listening and speaking), read and write (students with a strong reading and writing preference learn best through words), kinesthetic (students are able to understand information through real life examples).

This student’s preferred learning strategy compared to the learning strategy provided by V.A.R.K. is almost identical. The learning strategies that have been used throughout her education have always netted good results, which is evident by her grades. In the past other students have commented about her learning style and the amount of time spent on note taking, outlines, and writing out note cards, but she has perfected this process for her learning style.
Study skills or study strategies are approaches applied to learning. They are generally critical to success in school, considered essential for acquiring good grades, and useful for learning throughout one's life.
The first thing we need to look at is what is a study skill? Study skill is methods and techniques that aid with peoples learning and what you would use in your day to day life at work. Also, these can be viewed as skills as they have to be taught to you, this can be sometimes from an early age and continues through your life because you never stop learning.
Picking the correct studying habit can make all the difference between being very successful on a test or failing. In order for a studying technique to prove itself as being effective, it must consistently demonstrate an increase in the grades of those that studied in such a manner. For instance, if one were to only reread the material and highlight what they believe to be the key points and they later failed the exam, then the studying technique did not do much to help them retain the information they needed in order to prove itself effective. When trying to pick a studying habit to use, there should also be a logical explanation as to how or why the practice is useful in allowing the brain to obtain the appropriate information. Through
Critical self-reflection refers to analysing one’s personal skills and qualities in depth. Critical self-reflection also involves being able to identify where one has strengths and weaknesses, as well as finding a solution on how to better ones self. As the author of this paper I, Ashiane Odoms, I would like to present my opinion on why Strategies for Learning Success (SLS) introduction to college is important in postsecondary education. SLS will teach you to become more familiar with the concept of college and how to adapt to the adult setting. SLS shows you academic strategies such as making use of your time, taking notes, set attainable goals, and etc. SLS also help you learn about yourself by helping you discover your learning styles, self-concept, and values. SLS will show you tips how to become a successful student, inside and outside of the classroom.
Studying skills will help you be more successful as well, there is also to much studying. To much studying can cause stress, and dense learning habits, also pushing your self to hard may ruin learning skills and cause your self to feel bad, or not as intelligent. Study skills for tests, quizzes, and exams is very important. Evenly spreading out study time will increase memory of the subjects you learn. Taking frequent breaks will make studying less stressful. Using flash cards, web sites, computers, or just a pencil and paper are all great ways to study. Having an answer sheet to refer to, and look over when your done will also help study and learning skills because it can help you see what you did wrong and need to fix. Having a study group or club before big tests, like exams or diplomas, will help you have more fun with your friends when studying.
