It is claimed that sugar is an ‘invisible murderer’ claiming the lives of many people every day and thousands every year, but it can be stopped. To add a sugar tax it would help to prevent serious health risks such as obesity, diabetes and being overweight which in turn lead to many further health risks such as heart disease. Reducing the amount of sugar we in take are a far better alternative than the risks it creates. In my experience, I’ve grown up on sugary foods and drinks – which if I didn’t stop could result in serious disadvantages and health risks in the future. Personally, I think the media have a big impact on how much sugary food and drinks are purchased and consumed. From ads on TV showing the newest lollies or magazines showing celebrities endorsing sugary drinks and food, impacts people far more than you’d expect. Instead of celebrities endorsing products that are bad for you, I find that they should be promoting healthier products. I cannot deny that if there is something on social media or the TV that looks appetising I have a want to go out and buy it. For example, with the Whittaker’s hundreds and thousands chocolate or the Whittaker’s chocolate milk the more people heard about it and the more people talked about it the more people went out and purchased it and shared around it with friends etc. The amount of sugar is outstanding in both products which I don’t think many people consider because of the fact it’s advertised everywhere and everyone is consuming it. In my opinion, I think that if more celebrities used their position to bring about a voice of healthier eating and especially a sugar tax more and more people would see that the positives of healthy eating and sugar tax are far better than the
