Students can achieve a stellar education, however, outstanding grades are earned not given. Moreover, students can achieve excellent grades in a plethora of ways. I was able to overcome a few hardships and achieve desired grades in college by employing a variety of techniques similar to Richard Rodriguez, author of A Story Of Schooling. Focusing on studies is one way to become well educated as claimed by Rodriguez (534). Although my roommate and other students pressured me to calm down about my studies, I always chose to prioritize my studies. In my opinion, grades are a religion, thus if I do not receive outstanding grades, I would dishonor my family and not only myself. Rodriguez stated in A Story Of Schooling that his brother and sisters were superb students, he attended an excellent grammar school with teachers that encouraged tremendous grades, and his mother and father encouraged him (533). Graduating from a top rated high school in the state and country has influenced my studies greatly along with having teachers who encouraged student success. Furthermore, my sister is exemplary in her academics, being around her is motivating along with the desired grades I obtained. Rodriguez, on the other hand, declared in A Story Of Schooling that his advantageousness made him the “prized student” he became, and eager to learn (534). In other words, progress plays a salient role in motivation to learn. Furthermore, I am galvanized to learn by succeeding in my studies. However, when I receive a low grade, I get demotivated for a moment. Nevertheless, I am able to re-motivate myself due to stellar grades being a religious belief. Finally, any civilian can achieve an exceptional education, although family and previous education experience can play a significant
