One normally could not argue that being a member of a law enforcement organization or agency is no easy task in and of itself, this is also not to state the obvious of the dangers that encompasses the profession with the stress and strains that only these members are exposed to on a regular bases, however this is not to say that is the overall defining template that comprises the whole of the criminal justice field, but it does suggest that there should be a tailored management of these individuals. With handling functionaries such as internal affairs, review boards, and oversight both legislative and communal one could almost see that even though one or two of these self governing entities may exist in other types of jobs, but rarely is it seen that all of these same said entities are employed to another profession except that of criminal justice (Stojkovic, Kalinich, & Klofas, 2012).
The law enforcement field is changing in its organizational strategies, methods and various aspects. Organizational management aims in improving the services, and the trends of development at various levels of the policing organizations. As we all know that the police agencies are bestowed with routine functions at numerous operational levels. These agencies highly contribute to the criminal justice systems and contribute to the other organizations
The law enforcement industry has become a less desirable job for Americans nowadays. The current shortage of police officer’s applications across the country are attributed to the diminishing pay, bad reputation, and dangerous nature of the job (Ali, 2017). Police departments around the country face severe scrutiny after heavy attention was drawn to police brutality incidents. The general belief that the law enforcement industry in America has a

Paramount among the disadvantages is the way the militarized structure cultivates ethical abuses through protecting mediocre poor performance and rejects accountability (Stamper, 2005). It is readily clear law enforcement is not eradicating crime and solving all societal ills through enforcement. In this regard, society must hold law enforcement accountable for its poor performance. A new way of doing business must focus on humanized law enforcement that is accountable to its citizenry. Additionally, agencies must commit to a new model and support change by redeveloping first line supervision through promoting those who show sincere understanding and commitment the new model reinforcing positive interactions with employees while continuing to work and develop those who struggle with the new concept (Stojkovic, 2015).
The Amendments found in the United States Constitution contain several provisions to protect citizens from various infringements from the government. These provisions have greatly influenced what law enforcement is today. Due to the power of a law enforcement official, the public expects officers to be held to a higher ethical standard. Part of that expectation entails that officers will follow in the law and lead by example. Unfortunately, no one is perfect and departments will always have those law enforcement officers who stray from what is right and act questionably on and off duty. To ensure that officers are being held accountable for their actions, departments will employ their own Internal Investigation division to help identify, discipline, and/or remove employees found guilty of misconduct. Therefore, it is important that administrators develop safeguards to ensure that internal investigations are conducted fairly and ethically, demonstrating the best interest of both the
Although officer are only human, they are the role-model of society held to the highest of standards due to the very nature of the political and social force of legal authority placed upon them as public servant. Therefore, any situation surrounding one officer’s abuse of authority for personal gain, criminal conduct, dishonesty, excessive force, and discriminatory practices often diminishes the public’s trust and support needed to maintain and enhance public safety. In the past, agencies recognized patterns of unethical issues stemming from the basis of officer recruitment that focused more upon physical abilities instead of the need for diversity, training, and educational values to support a higher level of professionalism (Ortmeier, 2/1/2009, p. 82). While the professionalization of the law enforcement subculture is highly recognized today as an important value in promoting better police conduct and accountability, misconduct still exists in some areas of the law enforcement subculture.
Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.
Finding the new era of law enforcement can be extremely difficult. Recruiting officers is one thing, but retaining officers within the department is a whole other story. As a new demographic begins to replace the existing workforce, the environment they will step into is not the same one their predecessors faced. Technological advances and societal tensions have resulted in the adoption of new principles, people, and practices.
Having had the opportunity of working in various capacities within the Criminal Justice field for several agencies, my experiences with each will afford me a deeper insight into the theoretical

It is most probably every police managers’ dream to one-day retire from law enforcement and begin their new life in retirement. Retirement brings the time to enjoy all those things that they did not have time for due to the demands their job. As to when some police executives will retire revolves around the question of, “Is there someone within the organization that is ready to step-in and take over the operation of the department?” Much debate has taken place nationally about how the upcoming new law enforcement leaders will run their organizations in the 21st Century, and some police managers wonder if these new leaders will be properly prepared and up for the challenge (Taylor et al., 2006, p. 2). When the new leader is selected, they can either hit the ground running or they can hit the ground stumbling, and their success or failure can partially be attributed to how they were developed, coached, and mentored by their superiors.
In any criminal justice entity and within the criminal justice field as a whole a hierarchy is preferred. This gives each agency and employee a specific responsibility and authority. Tasks are set forth on a functional basis and then divided up based on specializations. Criminal justice systems operate on a specific set of rules and regulations that define their specific procedures so that fairness and safety are taken in to consideration. This is a method of exerting control over an agency so that tasks are accomplished and goals are reached in a timely manner, but the safety and rights of the community are preserved (Vikas Hazrati 2011). Creating and maintaining equality and control within the criminal justice system is imperative for procedures and policies to be followed and tasks to be carried out. In a bureaucratic criminal justice system the personal job performance and an opportunity for advancements will improve an employee’s job performance and encourage employees.
The criminal justice agency unification recommended by the National Advisory Commission (NAC) intended to centralize the administrative authority of multiple police agencies into one formal state organization. Agency unification creates an organization that was hierarchical in nature, with its own mission, policies, and procedures (Stojkovic et al., 2015). Agency unification eliminates the variations in missions, regulations and practices that each agency had previously established as an independent organization. Furthermore, agency unification would facilitate organizational budget processes with the state, by having one large police organization that works with the state rather than 100 small police agencies. Furthermore, a single police criminal justice organization administrated by a state office would be heavily influenced by the sitting government official’s political perspective.
