On behalf of the Pi-Tau chapter, we are excited to be back at school and ready to work on sending our chapter in the right direction this semester! With that being said, I do have some questions for you. It's syllabus week and fraternities are reaching our to us to have socials. Before I gave them a definite answer I wanted to speak with you via phone to see if we can attend them. They will drive and coordinate uber rides for the members. We will have people at the door checking the guest list to ensure it is strictly the sorority and fraternity members and
“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life…” is a quote that seems to describe my present feelings. My interest that I have in joining the Sigma Psi Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is not a decision I make on the whim. This lifelong commitment is a step I make with confidence and determination. In the past year and a half, I have been exposed and admired these exemplary college educated women who have dedicated themselves to be of service to the community, the empowerment of others and themselves, and to leadership. The members of this sorority hold themselves to a high standard and forged these strong bonds of sisterhood with each other that have been influential in me making
Researcher John Swales in “ The Concept of Discourse Community” explains that there are six characteristics that need to be identified for a group of people to be a discourse community. According to Swales, there are six characteristics that make up a discourse community. They are common public goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among members, participatory mechanisms to provide information and feedback, utilizing one or more genres in communication, a specific lexis, and a threshold level of members with a degree of relevant content and discourse expertise (220-222). Discourse is in communities are all around us.

“Additionally, issues of identity and values are important factors in neophytes ' abilities and willingness to learn to write in and for new workplaces, as they must choose between ways of thinking and writing with which they are comfortable and new ways that seem foreign or at odds with their identities and values” (Wardle 285) When I was first accepted into The University of Arkansas, the first thing that came to my mind was to put effort into my grades and into building my resume. Those would be my top priories. Before I knew it I had been accepted into a discourse community of members that were striving for the same ideals that I was-The Greek fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. Through the proses of being an initiate, I learned life long core values of community between other members. Interviewing the president of Lambda Chi Alpha, Luke Crenshaw, I uncovered the rigorous involvement of academic writing skills and how that plays a giant roll in this discourse community. These benefits are included in the values and beliefs of a discourse community.
Everyone knows about the stroll offs, roll calls, and step shows when an African American Greek sorority or fraternity is the topic. But is that all African American Greeks do is step and stroll? Believe it or not the image of African American Greeks has been tainted and miscued by their entertaining performances. Better known as the Divine Nine, the African American Greeks their hand signs and colors. The Divine Nine is a brotherhood and sisterhood organizations that are called to help the community and give back. These organizations also give women a chance to make a difference. After all, each and every one of the Dive Nine was founded because differences.

Walking around a university’s campus any day of the week, one sees an array of Greek letters worn proudly by young men and women in the Greek system. Fraternities and sororities play a big part in a university. The Greek system can also be an easy target to direct criticism. There are those who oppose the Greek system and those who embrace it. Evan Wright opposes the Greek system in his article “Sister Act” that was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine. He uses examples from students at Ohio State University in Columbus to show his disapproval of the way sororities are now days. He portrays sorority girls as catty conformists who are obsessed with partying with fraternity

I believe in the value of an education and that everyone should have access to it. I was fortunate enough to have parents who strongly believed in my dreams and encouraged me to pursue them as well as support them. During my college experience, my sorority has encouraged me to participate in philanthropic activities and I want to continue giving back to my community as a post-graduate. On of the main philanthropies my sorority focused on was CASA, which gives voices to children who were handed unfair circumstances in life. Due to the rising poverty levels in America, not every child has the means to pursue the education they deserve. I believe that an education has the ability to change someone's life and am extremely passionate about learning.
I would first like to thank you for presenting the informational today and being a main asset in bringing Mu Theta back to West Florida. After much thought i have decided to pursue interest in becoming a member in the greatest fraternity in the world Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated. I would greatly appreciate if you would be my sponsor and recommender. The reason that i feel you would be a great recommender/sponsor is because of what I've seen from you personally, you've always kept a high professional demeanor and i believe you will be able push/help me reach greater heights. The reason why I'm mainly interested in joining Alpha Phi Alpha over the hundreds of fraternities available is because i feel that the history of the fraternity
There is no one-size-fits all definition when it comes to leadership. Some individuals define leadership as solely guiding others to complete a task. While others, including myself, believe leadership is defined as “motivating yourself to be the best so that you can one day motivate the members of your own team.” For me, leadership is being bold enough to have a vision and humble enough to recognize that achieving that vision requires much effort. A leader translates vision into reality, by stepping out of their comfort zone and taking risks. I believe I took the initiative to translate the vision of the founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which --- and of the current members who pour their hearts and
