This chapter offers a higher level of education. From the high school student, college student to a part of Teacher Corps, and now Mike Rose works for EOP, becomes a tutor in UCLA. Throughout this chapter, I can see the view of education of the author changes time by time. He is now facing with the highly successful students and the main problem here is how unprepared they are. Actually, I used to have that problem, it is not easy to integrate into new environment. In addition, I was struggled and stressed so much when I got really bad result in the first few tests in the first year in high school even I kept asking question and memorizing the whole lecture but now, I understand the problem was all about the study styles. Besides, I find out
What is the main argument the author makes and how does it apply to contemporary education?
The poem “Students” by Tom Wayman, shows four different learning styles: The Vaccination Theory of Education, The Dipstick Theory of Education, The Easy Listener Theory of Learning, and The Kung Fu Theory of Education. Wayman is a teacher that has noticed that every person devolves into one of these different learning styles. The four different theory of education are used every day even if we do not know.
This student’s preferred learning strategy compared to the learning strategy provided by V.A.R.K. is almost identical. The learning strategies that have been used throughout her education have always netted good results, which is evident by her grades. In the past other students have commented about her learning style and the amount of time spent on note taking, outlines, and writing out note cards, but she has perfected this process for her learning style.
Everyday life situations involving stages in how you learn are riveting. In the film “Coach Carter” there are many different ways to interpret learning styles. Using Coach Carter’s tactics there is a manner to analyze those styles of learning.
The purpose of this learning segment is to prepare students for the summative essay at the end of the unit.
This highlights the pressure that is put on her by herself to do well. It is just studying for a test, it should not be an that arduous of a task. This is a problem in society because students put so much pressure on themselves that even studying for a test is hard for them and causes them stress. (68 words)
Methods of teaching: There’s a real difference in our educational system compared to when i was last in school, two decades ago. One of the changes that have been accomplished in today’s society is to memorizing instead of using technology or using multiple choice. We are more likely hands on then doing things like the 21 century. Now we have been using save word document and many other things within using technology. We have choices to
She believes that if failing a student is reintroduced into classrooms that it could be the answer to the problem of the declining education system. Sherry uses examples of students from her night-class, insisting, “They are motivated by the desire for a better job or the need to hang on to the one they’ve got. They have a healthy fear of failure” (521). Currently, there are several teachers that won’t actually fail a student, and of course the students are aware of it, so it is inescapable that a student would not try as hard. Nonetheless, if flunking a subject is slowly implemented, then perhaps there will be an increase in participation and full understanding of the subjects.
After learning the scores of the students’ practice test scores, Mr. Clark needed to talk to all every single one of the teachers. Mr. Clark used ethos to let the teachers that they were not doing enough to help the kids get better scores on the test and they need to give them help if they are going to improve. Right before the students take the final exam, Mr. Clark told all of his students that they could pass the exam even though all of those people doubted them. With Mr.

Ethan's drive to learn and understand a multitude of disciplines of study makes him a dynamic student. His subject matter is vast and his enthusiasm for learning the obscure is quite intriguing. It is important not to assume that he will want to “please” his instructors just as it is equally important that his instructors not do for
Approaching a new course one can have the confidence that they will be successful by maintaining an open mind to the material that is being introduce by their instructor. In doing so the student will master a new subject as well as be introduced to new thoughts and ideas pertaining to the material. Most importantly there is a higher rate of success in the class which leads to a more favorable outcome.
In today’s globally competitive environment, I believe that textbook materials are not enough to fully prepare and impart knowledge on students in any given course. For instance, one lesson I have learned from teaching is that students do not always understand lectures or course contents fully—even though they give the instructors the feedback that
Students are placed in the responsibility of their own learning and understanding while the teachers encourage students to be more independent and more exploratory. The teachers will foster a sense of autonomy in the learning process as they act as a source of experiences. In addition, as the students watch their teacher makes mistakes, they will learn those failures are part of the learning process. The students will soon realize that mistakes are natural in life and it will serve as stepping stones to
The art of teaching involves different styles and methods of instructing. An educator’s ability to apply effective instructional strategies should understand how students learn. There is no single learning approach or style that works for every student.(Cetin) This paper will reflect upon my observation and participation during my field experience and demonstrate how it relates to the concepts of course material studied during this semester, “EDUC 2130, Exploring Teaching and Learning”.
