Frank Merchlewitz of the Minnesota Orchestra I had the opportunity to listen to Frank Merchlewitz in my marketing principles class, MK217A, taught by Dr. Shelly McCallum-Ferguson. Merchlewitz is the digital content creator for the Minnesota Orchestra in the Twin Cities. He discussed his role as the the contest creator and how businesses and organizations use multimedia content to promote their messages. Merchlewitz is a graduate of Drake University, where he earned a degree in e-media (digital media). The speaker showed us some of his work for the Minnesota Orchestra and his personal work at Saint Mary’s. At Saint Mary’s, he created a few marketing videos for our school showcasing graduation and everyday life at the university. At the Minnesota
This is one of RBC’s most recent campaigns to date which has been featured at TIFF events (Figure 3) and is still relevant on multiple social media and advertising channels. The premise of the campaign was to “better understand its customers needs and goals; what they’d like to make happen “someday”... whether it’s big or small,” according to an RBC executive (Martin, 2014). The campaign consisted of customer-submitted videos that showed their “someday,” offering multiple cash prizes for the best video. The design of the campaign is meant to engage the user through emotional appeals with the storytellings of people's goals and dreams, almost trying to establish a bond with the brand with this use of appeal (Clow & Baack, 2015). The campaign proved to be successful with thousands of entries submitted. The sheer technical aspect of user-submitted videos makes it an inexpensive campaign to outreach to customers, with the experiences of these people resonating with other people or new potential customers. While this campaign appeared to be one of the strongest in my opinion (in a general sense), I found that it was potentially too broad of a campaign, lacking the specificity or aim towards
The concert performed by the Allen High School Symphony Orchestra, which combines the Chamber and Sinfonia Orchestras, was an amazing concert but was not a flawless one. The pieces all sounded quite wonderful on the outside, but by diving deeper into the music and truly listening to and observing the performance with a sharper eye, there were some problems that appeared in a couple different areas, and those problems came mainly from three distinct areas: tone, technique, and musicianship.
Entertainment is the most addicting form of media that people enjoy viewing on their free time. Some people find entertainment to be either good or bad, depending on what the individual believes to be appropriate to watch. Most people derive amusement, fun, pleasure, and relaxation from the movies and TV shows we see in our daily lives. Whether it is a movie trailer we watch or an advertisement on TV or the way the companies market the material, the material overall can be encapsulating and attracting toward consumers. In most cases, the materials we watch can leave us feeling a certain way throughout the course of the day. As technology increases, the need for consumers increases from the wide majority of the publicity materials that are being
“What really excites me is digital, especially in sports it changes every day…When I was at Michigan, the idea of digital had not really been there yet so I kind of brought that element to the table, it’s more prevalent now across universities” said Maleh as we discussed the role of digital marketing in sports today. It was great to get his take on this topic as we live in a society that is greatly impacted today by social media and the digital world and how we should be preparing ourselves for the role it will play in our professional careers. It was also helpful to understand his role as a marketing coordinator with the next. Being someone who is interested in sport marketing as a career, the position of a marketing coordinator is an entry-level position that may be available to me after graduation so it was wonderful to hear what the role really entails especially for such a popular organization such as the New York
In the first chapter, this essay primarily addressed the musical aspects of Frank Sinatra. This section will examine his celebrity image, and how it reflected the values of popular culture that spanned his career. Sinatra was the first musician, more specifically a singer, to achieve this kind of fame and notoriety among his audiences. Intentional or not, he started a trend in popular music that would later be replicated by many artists, including Elvis, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, and Barbara Streisand.

I decided to attend the Symphony on the Prairie on July24, 2015. I haven’t been to a Symphony Orchestra since I was very young and I was unable to attend the Symphony last Friday or Saturday. My fellow classmates invited me to the concert on July 24, 2015. I wanted to view a concert so I agreed to attend the Symphony with them. I also like Harry Potter and Star Wars; and they played pieces from both movies in the Symphony concert. Unfortunately there wasn’t any vocal throughout the concert but there were many instruments. These instruments include the entire string family (violin, viola, cello, and contrabass), the woodwind family (flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and contrabassoon), the brass family (English horn, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, and tuba), and the percussion family (timpani, harp, and keyboard)
Leonard Bernstein is seen as one of the greatest composers in America. Bernstein composed great music, conducted great music, and also preformed great music as a pianist. Bernstein is probably most known for his film score in the production West Side Story. According to The New York Times, he was "one of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American history.” Being born and educated in the United States, Bernstein was the first American to obtain worldwide acclaim. He is also cited in the Encyclopedia of World Biography, that “his special gift of bridging the gap between the concert hall and the world of Broadway made him one of the most glamorous musical figures of his day.”
Only one man could claim the title as probably the greatest composer in American history for writing so many unforgettable works: Aaron Copland. He lived a life inspired by many things as well as inspiring people all across the nation, and it really led to the opposite of being drawn into himself, as he described in the quote above. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14 in 1900. He was the youngest of five children to Sarah and Harris Copland. A musical spark came out in Copland already at the age of 11 as he began piano lessons with his sister. His musical talents
While listening to the video by Doc Severinsen and the Last Cruces Symphony Orchestra, I came to a conclusion that it does not take just one person to make a great performance, but an entire orchestra. The Cruces Symphony Orchestra and Doc Severinsen, in the video, performed magnificently together without any issues internally and externally. Comments were made by other listeners, which most comments were positive with some negative references to the erroneous grammar usage by the publisher of the video from the YouTube website. In another note, the title of the video, as previously mentioned, is Doc Severinsen with the Last Cruces Symphony Orchestra played on August 25, 2007. In addition,
The western classical concert that I have chosen to review is A Tale of Two Symphonies.
Composers rely heavily on ritornello form. More freedom in the form although a sinfonia proper is later developed.
Since the beginning of the semester, I have learned three concepts about music in western civilization. The 3 concepts I have learned is elements of music, the orchestra, and the romantic symphony. Theses concept are very interesting to me because I don’t have any type of musical background and I got the chance to learn about how music really started. There are many elements I learn when it comes to making an orchestra and composing a music program. An orchestra is a group of musicians that come together to make background music for a TV show or movie. During the class, I learn that they also provide concerts, ballets, and opera to the public. According to English online.at “The word orchestra was first used by the ancient Greeks and meant the front part of a stage. During the Middle Ages, it also included the musicians on the stage.” The orchestra has a lot of history that goes back to the late 6th and early 7th century. The orchestra group was organized by the kings and queens of Italian and French churches. They used string instruments to perform at dance parties, ballet, and operas. This is fascinating that the orchestra music goes back as far as the late 6th century. I could see how Beethoven, Smetana, Tchaikovsky and among other have made amazing orchestral music and how they were influenced by it. When the orchestra is playing it could have 10 or more instruments. During class, I learn that when we talk about the orchestra it usually means a symphony orchestra. A
One’s taste in music is at the top of the list when it comes to topics that can cause a heater argument. Musical preferences are sacred to most people and we tend to divide into small tribes over music, considering the other tribes as less sophisticated. Interestingly, your music choices are not a random grouping – your tribe isn’t determined by where your friends go. Instead, your personality and the music you like are interlinked, both influencing each other.
The art work of Gerrit Van Honthorst called The Concert was painted during the 15th or 16th century. The title of the painting gives a clue as to what is happening within the painting. The painting is an oil, canvas. The title The Concert suggests just as in the painting, a group of people is gathering for a concert. There are intense muted hues of yellow, blue, red, and green. The painting contains traditional linear perspective and the book placed on the table helps create the 3-D dimensional on the overall painting.
