Freak the Mighty is a delightful story. It fills the heart with joy and sorrow. There are very happy times, but to go along with the happy ones….there is always the sad ones. The story invites the readers to jump into the book with the characters.
The two novels Freak The Mighty and Wonder are two very different stories. Freak The Mighty is a story about two polar opposites that become great friends and Wonder is about a kid named Jack that looks past Auggie's appearance and found a great friend. Even though these are two completely different stories they both teach us to look deeper into someone because you might find a really good friend.
In the novel, Freak and Max become like brothers by how they act toward one another as if they are family. Freak states, ‘“We are Freak the Mighty, that’s who we are. We’re nine feet tall, in case you have not noticed’”(Philbrick 40). That statement shows that Freak and Max have a strong bond and they are proud of being friends. Then, Max says, ‘“I swear on the dictionary if Freak ever tries to eat Chop Suey again, I’ll dump it on his head or something”’(Philbrick 87). That statement proves to the reader that Max cares for Freak and will do whatever it takes to protect him. Finally, Max says
Throughout the novel Freak the Mighty author Rodman Philbrick creates a compelling story featuring the main characters, Maxwell “Max” Kane and Kevin Dillon, better known as Freak, who go through a journey testing their friendship and loyalty to each other against the forces of evil in life. Max has not had it easy, with his mother being murdered by his father Kenny “Killer” Kane, and he has “never had a brain” (Philbrick 1). These actions and thoughts have left him with no friends and immense grief. Freak has also had a fairly lonely life, being two feet tall with extraordinary intelligence leaving him an outcast. Even into adulthood, people like to isolate others due to appearance or behavior. Loretta Lee, a woman the boys meet on a quest and also an old friend of Kenny Kane, is a perfect example, as she is judged by her looks and the way she can act. Despite their looks or behavior, all of these characters have the best intentions and enormous hearts, and are living a quality life, proving that just because someone is different, does not mean they are not of the same worth as everyone else.
The criminal justice system is well talked about throughout communities, law officials, and etc. Through social media we hear about the criminals who go into prison and the prisoners who return to prison, but never about the ones who change or learn their lesson from it. It is believed that once someone has been arrested and sent to prison or jail, it is likely that they will return to their again at some point in their lifetime. We believe this because we think these criminals were made this way and don’t have the ability to change. The memoir, Dreams from the Monster Factory, written by Sunny Schwartz and David Boodell, talks about the life inside a prison and jail and how Sunny’s RSVP program gives prisoners the ability to change their life around. Dreams from the Monster Factory was Sunny’s experience about what she saw working behind bars. She directed her book towards the public and other jails around her to try to bring awareness about how the RSVP program came and helped out more prisoners to become less violent. Sunny proved this by giving personal stories from real prisoners, how the RSVP program came to help them. This essay is directed towards anyone who hasn’t read this book. In the memoir, Dreams from the Monster Factory, Sunny Schwartz and David Boodell use rhetorical appeals, such as ethos, pathos, and logos, to show her audience that by implanting the RSVP program

In chapters 6 and 7 of Philbrick’s thrilling novel, Freak the Mighty, two misfits that met in daycare, reunite in junior high and become courageous to overcome obstacles. Philbrick uses exquisite tone and mood to persuade strong character development, and help readers understand the character’s bond. Rodman Philbrick’s use of mood and tone show that two heads can be better than one. Maxwell and Freak are being approached by the town bullies, Tony D. also known as Blade, and his gang. Philbrick uses a tone of intimidation to exemplify Tony. Kevin confidently confronts Tony, “ Hey what!” And he moves right in front of Freak. “Want to say that again, little freak man.”

Freak and Max had never been friends in daycare, and Max wasn’t sure if he even wanted to be friends, but that all changed the summer before 8th grade. One day Max saw a small town moving truck arrive up to the old duplex down the block. When he went to take a look who it was, it turned out to be “the weirdo robot boy” from daycare with his glowing white-yellow hair and his fierce eyes. At first Max had an odd encounter, but later on Max helped get Freak’s ornithopter out of the tree. If you’re wondering what an ornithopter is well Freak says “It’s just an immense word for mechanical bird”, and that’s when Max got his brain.
