The purpose of this report is to evaluate communication and leadership within SunBright Outdoor Furniture Inc. It was commissioned by Eva Rucker, the general manager.
SunBright is a medium size business operating in a single factory, manufacturing and selling outdoor furniture consisting of table, chairs, umbrellas and accessories. Mr Cowart, president of SunBright, installed a general manager for assistance. The next sensible step was to create a goal of increasing sales. Additional staff to help achieve this step were employed. However, unprecedented expansion and sales followed, with the general manager now struggling to improve operations to keep up with demand.
This report analyses SunBrights organisational behavior, along with communication.

Silence is the prevailing form of communication being used to send their message to other departments “silence is a form of communication that in itself involves a range of cognitions, emotions, and intentions.” (Chad T. Brinksfield, 2009, p. 20). Silence can be both positive and negative however, negative consequences are resulting for SunBright.
The current approach with employees, doesn’t maximise the full productivity levels possible. An example being, SunBrights sales representatives that are currently promising delivery dates to customers/retailers but fail to inform the manufacturing department that they are offering consumers this guarantee. This is also occurring in reverse; the manufacturing department aren’t informing sales how long it takes to produce a piece of furniture.
Repercussions of negative silence as a form of communication is immense. Being out of sync between departments has consequences on the external environment of Sunbright. Customer satisfaction declines, therefore customers/retailers will purchase less outdoor furniture, less sales, less revenue/profit. Internally within SunBright, it is causing conflict between departments not having a cohesive flow is subsequently being ineffective and
There are many examples of light and dark shown in “The Pearl,” by John Steinbeck. There are examples of light and dark shown through the pearl, people, and other objects. The main character Kino, who is poor, expects good things coming from the pearl but much darkness comes with it. Many occurrences of light and dark shown in the book is through Kino’s interaction with the pearl, malicious people, and objects valued by Kino.
A system is a set of interrelated parts. Systems theory assumes that a system must be understood as a whole, rather than in component parts. It is a way of looking at the world where all the objects are interrelated with one another. Many family systems are addressed in the movie Little Miss Sunshine.
Sun Dance is a highly sacred ceremony for many sects of Indigenous peoples in North America. The Sun Dance ceremony is practiced mainly within Plains tribes and has survived as a tradition for hundreds of years. The nations amongst which it was created include the seven tribes of the Lakota nation, the Blackfoot, the Cheyenne, and the Arapaho. Over time the ceremony spread to the southern Plains tribes, the Kiowa and Comanche, as well as the northern Plains peoples, such as the Crees of Saskatchewan and Sarcees of Alberta. Many others across the Plains region now practice Sun Dance, including the Ponca, Hidatsa, Ute, Ojibwa, Pawnee, and more. The original name derives from the Lakota term Wi wanyang wacipi, meaning “sun gazing dance.”
Thus, communication is an important precursor to work productivity. Miller (2012) identifies three styles of communication content that are often seen in organizations: task- related, innovation-related, and maintenance-related (which is social communication). How this content is used and portrayed changes with each organization but most theories state that task- related content is the most important and should continue to be implemented. This case study will analyze how social communication is maintained and perfected at Brass Taps by touching on their strict communication and the face-face communication they use to achieve such.
The religion detailed and examined throughout Don Talayesva’s “Sun Chief” can be difficult to understand and near impossible to appreciate. At first glance to the casual reader it can appear shallow and ridiculous; a religion created around the wants and needs of the Hopi but not based on any empirical or even supposed sacred evidence. When coupled with The Sacred Canopy however, the reader begins to understand the simplistic beauty of their religion providing necessary guidance and support to the Hopi tribe. The reader also is able to relate to Don’s religion in terms of the love one has for his or her own dogma and the importance it plays in an individual’s life.
In this essay, I am going to discuss how practices of leadership contribute to managing communication in the post bureaucratic era. This essay shall discuss the effectiveness of leadership approaches in the post bureaucratic era in managing communication in organizations. In section 1, I shall discuss leadership in terms of communication by drawing upon the article by Barry B. (2007). In addition, I shall also discuss the use of communication in running an organization in a leader’s desired way (Jack, G., 2004) and the need of contingency approach (Browning, 2007, pg 190) while communicating with employees. In section 2, I shall discuss how management stimulate loyalty in employees through embedding organizational identity (Gagne, J.F.,
When the employees sweat out to reach the production targets, they give their best and the mind-set or the attitude of the employees towards the organization changes. The management should set up monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such workshops will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on production and sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds & Boshoff, 2002). Organizing technical trips and field tours further improves the management employee relationship as this allows the two parties to work together in a different environment and gain better ideas. The concepts of the ERG (existence, relatedness, growth) Model can be applied by recognizing individual employees who attain the highest productivity and then rewarding them with various benefits such as growth. Growth is what employees look for in any organization as the more
Ineffective communication can be devastating to a department within an organization. This usually occurs when managers do not meet with staff regularly to check in or update staff of new occurrences. Even if the manager does follow through with regular meetings the manager must abide by the three “C’s” rule of communicating with clarity, completion, and conciseness (Juneja, 2011).
“Joseph shall return to Canaan, grieve not, Hovels shall turn to rose gardens, grieve not. If a flood should arrive, to drown all that’s alive, Noah is your guide in the typhoon’s eye, grieve not (Hosseini 365).” A Thousand Splendid Suns, written by Khaled Hosseini, is a story that is set place in modern-day Afghanistan. It is one depicting the lives of two particular women who live under the control of a persecuting husband and the infamous rule of the Taliban. And through these two women (Laila and Mariam), Hosseini creates a mind-blowing, awe-inspiring adventure of regret, despair, tragedy, and more importantly, redemption. The book begins with separate perspectives of each woman, and how they consequently come together in the same
Family is such a central aspect of all of our lives that it affects us in both negative and positive ways, as is seen with the characters in Jandy Nelson’s novel, I’ll Give You the Sun. In this novel, two twins are the focus, but all the characters are intertwined within each other as they have all crossed paths at one point, not realizing it until the end of the story. Before diving into the relationships among them though, it is important to note that this story is told in a unique way in that it is told from different periods of time from the two twins -- so that neither character knows the full story of their lives until the end.
Communication is “the process of relaying information between or among people by the use of words, letters, symbols, or body language” (Cherry & Jacob, 2011, p. 381). Communication is a two- way process; the message conveyed by the sender needs to be heard and understood by the receiver. It is important for “leaders to communicate regularly and consistently with staff” (Shifflet & Moyer, 2010, p. 252). Some
Little Miss Sunshine directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, is about a family whose cross country journey to the Little Miss Sunshine child beauty pageant teaches them, and the viewer, that real life is about relationships and that these are more important than simplistic notions of winning or losing. Richard Hoover is the character who most exemplifies this message as he eventually recognises that his family and life cannot be defined by his ‘Refuse to Lose’ motivational programme.
Due to the bands near 20-year dormancy, it’s doubtful that Sun of the Sleepless is a name you’ve heard numerous people murmuring about in the black metal scene. Fronted by Ulf Theodor Schwadorf, the brains behind Empyrium and The Vision Bleak, “To The Elements” is the band’s first full-length album, despite forming in 1998, and is the first piece of proper material Sun of the Sleepless has unleashed since the band’s split EP with a band named Nachtmahr in 2004.

Changes in the magnetic field of the sun affect us here on earth in a number of interesting ways. This magnetic field is caused by the flow of electrically charged ions and electrons on the sun, and if it didn't exist, the sun would be a much more boring star. The 11-year cycle of the sun's magnetic field accounts for many of the cool features of the sun: sunspots, solar flares, and aurora borealis. At the beginning of the cycle, the magnetic field is weak and there are very few sunspots; later, at the peak of the cycle, the magnetic field is strong, and there are many sunspots. Sunspots are relatively cool areas that appear as dark patches on the face of the sun. They occur where magnetic field lines are
