Sunset Boulevard (1950)
Sunset Boulevard, a classic black and white movie that displays what Hollywood actually consists of. Directed by Billy Wilder an Austrian born, American filmmaker of sixty films. The movie is almost 67 years old and when it was first released the movie was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, ranked number twelve on the American Film Institutes list of the 100 best American films in 1998, and worshipped by many critics. Although the movie was not released in my time, this classic has definitely got me interested in movies similar to this love story with a crazed ending. Billy Wilder always wondered what happened to most of the former stars from the

The median family income was $3,300 a year, which probably explains why it was so hard for Joe to ask for a loan of 300$. And the average cost of a new car was $1,510, that can also include why Joe was so attached to his car. The Golden Age of Television is known as the 1950s, about 80% of the U.S. owned a television. This concludes why Desma Normand was slowly declining in fame because families were no longer interested in silent movies but spent most of their free time watching new shows.
An Organic Act of Guam is signed into law by President Harry S. Truman that granted all Guam residents U.S citizenship. And he also approved the hydrogen bomb. Sunset Boulevard was released in the middle of the Cold War. Even though the 1950s was known for little violence, American troops and North Korean forces fight each other for the first time in the Korean War during the Battle of Osan.
While I was watching the film I noticed objects like the ancient cars, silent films, and how much people smoked back then. Since this film is 50 years older than I am it was hard to connect with these subjects. It interested me into researching these topics to have a better understanding of the

Most actors do not continue making films one after another until they die but Norma could not get this into her head. She spent years writing her script to return to the big screen and was set on that dream. Since Norma was obsessed with the goal of filming again it led her to become foolish about how famous she actually was and her terrible script. Also a scary realization of having a chance of ending up demented like Norma. The directors wanted to show us a alarming visual of what life could be like for actors after their acting days were over.
I recommend this film for anybody that is interested in movies with the genre drama. The film refers to many references to past Hollywood and screenwriters, so it would help if you know a little bit of that background to have a better understanding to what the actors are saying. But I enjoyed the plot twists, astounding acting, and shocking ending. I actually asked my friend to watch the film by herself since the film was available on Netflix. I wanted to see a persons opinion on the
What is National Cinema ? A Question proposed by Tom O’Reagan in Australian National Cinema (2005). The question leads to the sociological understanding that national cinema is constructed by both national and international film industries, the national film text and also by the various cultural, social and political contexts. National Cinema is a vehicle for social processes, emerging social identity and movements. A film may categorised as a ‘national cinema’ based on a number of factors: the language spoken in the film, the nationalities or dress of the characters, the country that supports the film financially, the setting, music or cultural elements present in the film.
Overall, I enjoyed the film. My biggest issue was the formatting of the film and the medium that it was available. It would have been more enjoyable had the film not been broken up into segments that needed to load. Had the movie been available on DVD or in one longer segment, it would have been easier to watch. The continuous breaks in the action of
Name of the movie that I selected was “Stranger in Good Company”. This movie was directed by Cynthia Scott and it was released at May 03, 1991(www.imdb.com). This movie is 105 minutes long and audience for this movie is mostly adults. I chose this movie because it is a heartwarming, slow paced reflection on life, the strong human spirit, and the meaning of true friendship when it occurs between strangers. In addition to that, this movie that show us the true unity, love, and individuality. This movie is related to the aging because almost all the actors are seniors and they truly bring their life memory to the movie. This movie shows us many sociological imagination, life course and diachronic vision that most of the older people have.
This movie is awesome. It is about a man who after getting a divorce, decides to get help from a friend to find new love. That sounds like a typical movie, very normal. It’s not! With so many twists and turns, you would think you were watching the Kardashians, this movie is funny, interesting, and most of all crazy.
The film is very touching, whether in an inspiring way or a sad way, you where touched by it. The acting in the film was unbelievable. Emilie
In my opinion this movie it’s well-received and a very good adaption of the Stephen king original novel. It has a lot of terror and it’s combined with a bit of comedy, that makes it unconventional.
This is a brilliant film in every way possible. The directing, the acting, the screenplay, the sound, everything is of very high quality. The acting is superb and several of the actors
Billy Wilder’s film, Sunset Boulevard, was released in the 1950’s as it continues to be a popular film that catches people’s attention. The film still captures the heart and mind of audiences that watch it today with its very dramatic characters and scenes. This film demonstrates a variety of themes and concepts through the choices of cinematography. Sunset Boulevard shows the dark side of celebrities and the flaws or downfall of becoming famous. Some main components of the cinematography in this film include the placement of lighting, the portrayal of specific scenes and their symbolism, the music choices, camera angles, and the camera position. This film is black and white but still contains many dark scenes that really capture the audience’s attention and give a suspenseful and depressing vibe.
What is the name of the film? And when was it published? And who directed?
The tragic movie Fruitvale Station (2013) was about a young black man named Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan) who was shot by a police officer that ended his life. Grant was unarmed and Police mistook real gun for a taser and shot him in the back. This movie was based on a real-life story that happened on the New Year’s Eve 2009 at Fruitvale BART station. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler made a fantastic movie portraying the reality of the situation through hard work. He wanted to make this movie because he believed that it could have been him getting shot because of his color. The movie has portrayed the struggles of a low-class family throughout. Grant had to pay the rent when he had lost his job and help his sister when she was struggling to make ends meet. He was also faced troubles with the law near the end of the movie.
The film Minority Report catalyzes a specific message through its usage of film effects and actors. Dystopian films are created through the film’s plot, often enforcing an over-arching method of government corruption and control through its setting, actors, and specific lighting. These key elements utilize the overall tone of the film, and it is the specific use of actors and technicians that ultimately set the film up for success. Minority Report exploits this usage of blocking and setting in order to create a successful dystopian film. In order for the movie’s plot be successful, a director must contemplate the use of its actors and plot devices in order to employ the use of tone which ultimately makes a movie effective in its overall
The objective of the course is to understand both sides of an argument. Such as being racist or non-racist, or being a nymphomaniac or a religious nun prude and then create questions based on the two sides and analyzes The two courses out of three, that the class was taught about death and love and sex. It taught students that death is around every corner they turn around in their lives. The concept of the love and sex stories taught the students that how far people will risk in order to get affection from other people. The story concept is though you may see someone one day, the next day they can be gone forever. Lauren indicated that she wailed all night just even thinking that her husband could possibly be on that flight and even dead
A factor that I was not aware of which is a huge focus point in the movie is the importance of family. Family bond is important, the youth needs direction. With broken families and a broken community it is hard to feel the violence will ever end. There need to be stronger family bonds, families need to stay together and support each other. Chicago’s youth shouldn’t feel like just because they are born in an area they are going to die young. They shouldn’t feel that they are enslaved to violence and it’s the only way out. There needs to be hope give back to these communities. The city should step in to these extremely impoverished areas and help. Help by spreading the importance of education, guidance, and the hope that there is more for
In the movie, Departures, the burial ritual is drastically different from the burial rituals here in the U.S. In the Japanese culture, more is done to preserve the body. For example, in part 2 of the movie there is a scene where Mr. Sasaki is embalming a woman’s body. The woman’s body was laid on a mat with several sheets on top of her and her family and friends kneeling on the floor to watch the process. Mr. Sasaki starts out by removing the cloth on the woman’s face and cleaning her body with a sanitary wipe. He then wraps her body in traditional Japanese clothing and folds her hands together. After, he applies makeup to her skin and her favorite lipstick in order to restore her to her original beauty. Mr. Sasaki does the all with great
The film “The Prestige” is one of many masterful Nolan films that walks the line between being a meta film about the film industry, and being focused on immersing the audience in the actual content of the film. At a close inspection, comparisons to the film industry can be seen, but they are not so obvious to distract the audience from the central conflicts that are at the forefront of the film. The subject of the film could most easily be defined as surrounding the topics of obsession or fame. More specifically, the obsession of fame, and the illusion of happiness that fame projects. The main characters of the movie both urn for the fame of being the world’s most successful entertainer, even if for different reasons.
