The growing need to maintain consistency and create unity was fulfilled by genre analysis suggested by Swales’ (1990) CARS model. There are many situations where communication is poor leading to a lack of understanding, particularly in academic settings. Prior research conducted on Research Articles known as a means of interaction in academic world places emphasis on its different parts, namely Abstract (Al-Khasawneh, 2017; Marefat & Mohammadzadeh, 2013; Samraj, 2005; Tseng, 2011), Introduction (Cortes, 2013; Jalilifar, 2010; Mahzari & Maftoon, 2007), Result (Lim, 2010; Shahriari, 2017; Williams, 1999), and Discussion (Holmes, 1997; Le & Harrington, 2015). The focus has been on the introduction section, with little attention given to the degree
There are different types of communities within academic disciplines. According to Ann M. Johns, “Discourse Communities and…”, each community serves a different purpose and has a specific goal intended for its readers. In this instance, academic communities depict that there are distinct fields that every individual chooses to be part of, and how each community has its own expectations and style of writing. The academic disciplines range from biology, political, science, history, and many more. In this paper, I will state the particular expectations that the political science community expects from its scholars within the political theory field. Also, how some political science writers use similar or different writing traits to get their message
When looking at each of the articles presented, there are defining factors that allow researchers to determine whether or not it is a scholarly or popular resource. Of the two articles, one can assert that the USA Today Article is a popular source and the article by Baker and Algorta (2016) is a scholarly source. Each of these sources has their advantages and disadvantages due to the stylistic devices employed by the writers. With the help of each article, knowledge of readers and viewers is expanded, and while there are some facets that detract from the quality of the knowledge gained, the readers benefits from the time spent reading.
In “Materiality and Genre in the Study of Discourse Communities,” authors Amy Devitt, Anis Bawarshi, and Mary Reiff discuss genre in discourse communities. The article is pretty much broken into three different parts with each author writing about another genre. Amy Devitt discusses jury instruction which basically just means that she wrote about how jurors are not able to grasp the genre of jury instruction like lawyers are able to which means they are not able to make a good verdict for defendants. Anis Bawarshi discusses the medical field and the language there. He said that only people familiar with medicine relate and honestly understand what is going on when people talk about medicine. Then lastly, Mary Reiff talked about ethnography

In the Communication Journal, Research on Language and Social Interaction, I noticed a structural trend that was unique. In each of the volumes, I noticed that there was always a section called “Featured Debates” in the first issue. Margy MacMillan also mentioned the use of critique as a means of deeper connections. These featured debates used a topic in order to challenge scholars to think critically about what is being put forth. In the first issue of 2016, the debate was “Requesting.” There were four research articles that debated different aspects of recruitment and cooperative engagement. In 2015, the featured debate was “Coding and Conversation Analysis.” Three research articles were written to debate different perspective about how coding affections conversation and social interaction. These are examples of ways in which I believe journals to advance their field.

The authors believe that this divide was made stronger by four main factors. Those factors include editorial polices, exigence of funding agencies, leadership leaning towards translational research, and the rise of functional analysis. They choose to compare the two studies by a multitude of factors including the degrees of interaction, changes of the history individuals and topics. The study they ultimate set up is about how social networks cause a lot of collaborative work and ultimately what coauthors can bring to the table as far as research in the two perspective fields. They started their first study by pulling back issues of both JABA and JEAB and pulling authors names to see if any overlapped and if they had a coauthor. The study proved that over the three decades there was an increase
Twenge uses three different type of genres and several rhetorical devices across all of her articles. In her article “Generation Me on Trial” the genre Twenge use is newspaper genre. She also use rhetorical devices such as logos and pathos in this article. She also uses logos in her article “Personality Processes and Individual Differences.” The genre for that article is scholarly research journal. In her final essay “Introduction” Twenge use ethos to appeal to her audience which is in the textbook genre. All three of Twenge’s articles using different genres is good for her to spread her message. In all of her essays she discuss the same topic, “Generation Me.” By her pursuing a different genre each time she is able to spread her message more
Gain experience reading and composing in several genres to understand how genre conventions shape and are shaped by readers’ and writers’ practices and purposes
For this paper, students were to write an analysis of three articles in how they relate to each other based on their commonality. They were to also examine their differences by looking at quantitative and qualitative data from each article. The instructor notes that the basis of their thesis must come from one commonality that each article has as they relate to one another (such as an article dealing with issues of discrimination or religion etc.). The goals and objectives of this paper was to encompass all the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course of the semester which were but are not limited to: critical reading, annotating and outlining, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, and critiquing of other articles. This paper served as the student’s final assignment for the course.
The discourse of criminology is based on facts and research where things can be proven true and makes it reliable for the audience. Where you can always learn something valuable for research paper. The discourse of popular writing can be don’t to give the audience some type of information but usually is done to entertain them. They are intended for different audience and purposes. For example, reality TV shows now a days are not the reality TV shows that existed twenty years ago. The reality TV shows shown today are programmed to entertain the viewers not to inform. They are not the same as how they were twenty years ago. These differences influence on how I read because the excerpts are very different but were made for different reasons. As
According to the Bedford Researcher, there are different ways for writers to get reader agreement into their ideas. For long time ago, writer used these methods to express their thoughts, and information develops an argument successfully ending with the reader agreement.
Critically analyzed sources are necessary, in order to eliminate irrelevant information. In order to begin writing an effective research paper in the graduate academic program, we have to keep in the mind some of the contents of critically analyzed sources. These contents include, intended audience, objective, coverage, clear writing style, and evaluative journals. In addition, graduate programs have a far more advanced research paper, in comparison to undergraduate programs. Which requires students to critically analyze the sources and thus gain a better understanding of the sources. Critically analyzing papers makes so much difference, not only for students in graduate level classes but for all students. It allows us to explore and further
In respects to the journals construction of information and literature, it would be difficult to find much to critique about the work due to the information being all within the journal and easily accessible. Due to the fact that this journal is well written and organised, instead of critiquing the writing of the journal as a whole, this paper will examine the study within the journal. The study as a whole was well constructed in regards to obtaining accurate information and accounting for error, but in truth could be better. This paper will evaluate what this study could have done to obtain even greater information. Before critiquing what the study could have done differently, the original study must be examined.
According to Baridam (2001), it is not enough to review literature without presenting the studies by topic and determining how each of these topics relates to the researcher’s own study. A systematic presentation of the literature forms the foundation of the study.
