Syndesmotic injuries are more common in collision sports and those that involve rigid immobilization of the ankle in a boot, such as skiing and hockey. Athletics noted a shift from lateral ankle sprains to syndesmosis injuries in skiers as ski boots became more rigid. They reported 10 injuries in World Cup skiers that all occurred during the slalom event, when the skier straddled a gate, caught the inner ski on a stake, and experienced a violent external rotation force on the ankle and foot.
Common type of sprains would be in the ankle and in the wrist. The ankle is one of the most common injuries in professional and recreational sports and activities. Most ankle sprains happen when the foot abruptly turns inward or outward as an athlete runs, turns, falls, or lands after a jump. One or more of the lateral ligaments can be injured if this occurs. Wrists are often sprained after a fall in which the athlete lands on an outstretched hand.

This evidence based practice article explores the persistent concussive symptoms (symptoms lasting more than 90 days post-injury) in students from middle school, high school, and college that obtain many sport-related concussions. The studies by Harmon et al (2013) and Doolan, Day, Maerlender, Goforth & Brolinson (2012), found that just in the United states alone, there are over a million concussions every year and there are at least 50% of the concussions that are not reported. One that acquires a concussion will go through neurocognitive testing, see a physician, and go through screenings and more. Although these methods for management are being done to treat a concussion, there is not any evidence based practice to say that those methods are actually working. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore multiple treatment options, clinical rationale, and outcomes for each treatment. There were 24 cases a clients that were referred the Clinic at the University of Oregon for persistent concussive symptoms related to a sports injury. There were 14 women and 10
The most vivid injury in my mind is one that still shows today on my right ankle.
When Post Traumatic Stress Disorder first hits, veterans deal with numerous side effects, such as anger, anxiety, fatigue or depression. PTSD has always been an extremely complex topic to comprehend. The injuries faced by these victims do not reflect those of someone who had been shot or, hit by a blast, but it is something that nobody can see. It is what the Lone Survivor foundation calls an “Invisible Injury” (Education:LSF). Although it can look as if one with PTSD is normal, their minds are not. Although some may think PTSD is not a large-scale problem for veterans, “Researchers estimate that between 7% and 20% of veterans of the recent wars have suffered PTSD at some point” (Zarembo). Even though 7% or 20% is only a fraction of the overall
Snowboarding is no exception. ‘When snowboarders fall, they tend to fall on their hands, knees, shoulders or heads’, Fara Rosenzweig wrote in her article when she was telling about snowboarding injuries and how snowboarders can prevent them. Knee and ACL injuries are also a common danger athletes face. A snowboarder could easily twist their knees and ankles if they land wrong or just twist their foot in their board. These athletes also have to be wary of pulling muscles.
This segment the girl will fall off the top bunk at camp and hit her face on the floor while attempting to sleep walking. She will be asleep as the counselors talk with her about her fall. She will wake up angry, confused, and disoriented, but unsure why. She will be in a different room of the cabin than where she fell asleep at. She will question the counselors regarding how she got there. They will explain what happened after stating they just explained to her what happened. She will be embarrassed, but confess that she sleepwalks and they were speaking to her as she was still asleep. The camera will zoom in to show the severity of her injuries, and the ambulance will be called. Clips of the counselors speaking about their first experience dealing with someone that sleepwalks will appear. They will
When an individual suffers a Lisfranc injury, his or her joints and/or ligaments in the middle foot are affected. This type of injury may result from a slip and fall or a major accident. If a Lisfranc injury is mistaken for a sprain and treatment is not sought, more significant problems can arise. While some physicians and centers rush through diagnosing patients, at Nilssen Orthopedics Ankle and Foot Center in Pensacola, Florida, we take the time necessary to ensure each patient receives an accurate diagnosis. An accurate diagnosis is crucial to ensuring patients receive the treatment they need to recover and return to their daily activities.

It was estimated that in the United States alone, there are around 25,000 ankle sprains suffered each day(Olmsted, Vela, Denegar, & Hertel, 2004).
