The TOPS curriculum and enrichment in science and math has deeply motivated me towards this program. By entering the TOPS program I will be surrounded by students that also share my love for math and science. In the TOPS program, students are exposed to an enriched curriculum and an increased workload, this will help me prepare and become well adjusted for high school. The TOPS program is truly a terrific learning opportunity, it’s enriched curriculum, profound teachers and awesome students are definitely something I want to be a part of. Thank you for considering me.
Since fourth grade, I’ve been recognized as a GT student, which stands for gifted and talented. I’ve been selected to participate in the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders summer program and the National Youth Leadership Forum for National Security, Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Defense. My school district has selected me to attended SA-PREP (Prefreshman Engineering Program) for the past four summers. Each of those summers have been spent at San Antonio local colleges such as Northwest Vista College, Texas A&M San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, and University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). PREP is a two-month summer seminar and is a STEM
My middle school efforts and personal achievements have prepared me well to succeed in the Wheeler Magnet Program. I have always had a love for science and a desire to pursue and obtain information that allows me to further understand the world and the events within it. The Wheeler Magnet Program will let me participate and focus on the major subjects that affect my future, both in and outside of school. I would like to close by thanking you for giving students this opportunity to improve our own education through this
Moreover, the main goal I want to achieve is for me to learn a lot about my main interest or my future career. My future career is to be a doctor or a surgeon. In both cases, I want to get the basics down. Since this will be my major I want to take a lot of science courses. Also, science relates to a lot of other subjects mainly math, and technology, which both are in the courses. By being accepted into this school this brings me one step closer to accomplishing my dream goal.
My acceptance into the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program became one of my greatest experiences at North County High School. Throughout my STEM classes, I had learned to think more critically and creatively. STEM required us to collaborate to solve problems. This collaboration taught me proper communication and strong leadership skills which I utilized effectively during summer bridge projects and the community challenge projects that we did each year. One of the most significant community challenge projects that I did with a partner was design and print, using a 3-D printer provided from my school to create a cookie cutting prototype that helped modernize the production of cookies for a local bakery owner. Through
I believe that The Helix Summer Science Institute is not solely an enriching academic experience, but also a social engagement opportunity. I believe that I would make an excellent student at the Helix Summer Science Institute 2016 because, by enhancing my understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of science, I would be able to integrate this knowledge into my life. This academically rigorous program presents me with the opportunity to acquire methodical, logical and practical skills that are applicable to the real world. I am a very studious, motivated and passionate student, who perseveres in the face of adversity, while always respecting my peers. I embrace diversity, and believe that success is achieved through collaboration. I have a passion for science and public outreach, and I believe that these interests are connected.
This is a great academy for me because it will help know what courses I would like to do and I will learn so much from and there are many reasons why I should be chosen for this academy. Also I feel like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and this has a lot of advantages and It will benefit me a lot.
I would love to attend Wake STEM Early College High School because I believe it will give me a head start on my learning after the high school level. Your program will improve my college experience and save thousands of dollars in college tuition by giving me an associates degree and high school diploma upon graduation. I am also exceedingly interested in a career in science or mathematics. I have always been focused on learning science and math because it is something I love to do and I can have a successful career in the future by using those skills. I understand that attending this prestigious school will require a certain level of maturity and willingness to work hard. As an 8th grader at West Lake Middle School, I am a member of the National
I could do what a lot of seniors tend to do, which is give themselves an easy year and do the bare minimum - graduate high school and get it over with - but I don’t want to do that. I want to take as many courses as possible, and learn so many things while I have the opportunity to. Even now, I’m still having trouble figuring out my schedule for next year because there are so many courses I want to take, but the school day is only six hours long. When my guidance counselor told me about the Gifted High School Student Program, I was excited because I knew if I got in, it would be a great opportunity to learn something new and fit in a course I may not have been able to take in High School otherwise. The reason why I want to take part is this program is because I want to take advantage of every opportunity to learn, to go above and beyond as a student, and to prepare myself for life at college.
Kalamazoo College offers an elite, well-rounded undergraduate program for science students of all natures. The popularity of Kalamazoo College alone shows that the undergraduate program can be trusted to help me achieve my goals if I attend. Furthermore, Kalamazoo College is known as an honors college, which shows that only the best and brightest students will gain acceptance and be given the honor to attend. I believe I am part of the group of current high school graduates who can be labeled as the brightest, and wish to surround myself with other like-minded persons so as to further my own capabilities and studies. The purpose of secondary education is to further increase understanding and knowledge of the surrounding world, in order to contribute
I am interested in the soars program, because I love helping people; especially the young ones. The young ones are the future! It is the adults’ job to show them something that will help them in life. If not home then elsewhere. I never had a good influence to further or let alone someone encouraging me along the way. Therefore, I want to offer something I never had, whether it’s from encouragement to inspirational. Day by day many of us struggle to live, especially the youth. They go from peer pressure to trying to “fit in” any bad move can be life threating and then right before you know it, it’s over. I want to show the young ones that the college path is the right path no matter how they look at it. Futhermore, being part of the Soars program
I want to be apart of the STEM program because, it is a challenging program that will further help me in my education, it is a program that challenges students, and finally, because the program offers many different opportunities.
Since the time I applied for the CEO program, I have heard many people talk about the great things the students do and what a privileged experience it is. So when I walked into class Wednesday morning, I had high expectations. Quickly I realized that my classmates are some of the brightest, motivated and competitive high schoolers I have ever seen in my life. "These kids are AWESOME" is what was going through my head on my drive home Wednesday. A big hope of mine is that we will keep the same intensity all year long.
The reason I am interested in this program is because I want to have real experiences. I no longer want to look at life through a computer screen. I want to be the one researching and challenging myself in every possible way. I am a very open-minded and ambitious person. I am prepared to tackle any task that comes my way. I have little outdoor experience, but I want nothing more than to learn. Adventures are the best way of learning so this position was naturally appealing to me. This program will give me the opportunity to apply what I learned in class to the real world and allow me to escape the ordinary. I am a freshman in college with a massive desire for learning. I wish to leave my own trail and be the ripple in a wave that will produce
Science is, by its nature, inquiry based and science knowledge is built through processes in which discoveries of the natural world are made (Abruscato, 2000). It utilizes discovery and scientific thinking process to explore and learn knowledge and skills. Learning by doing is the new efficient method in teaching science. For kindergarten, this method leads to better understanding of science concepts and builds skills that children will use in future life .What a child can do with assistance now, they can later do on their own (Vygotsky, 1978). John Dewey (1916) stated that children must be engaged in an active quest for learning and new ideas. Inquiry is important in educating kindergarteners because it not only keeps them interested in lessons but also helps them retain more information when performing exploration and investigation. Children are naturally motivated to learn and actively seek out information to help their understanding (Piaget, 1950).The success of students who participate in hands- on inquiry activities suggests that if students have first hands experience with science, concepts are easier to understand and apply and students are generally more favorable to science and have better understanding of the nature of science .Within a conceptual framework, inquiry learning and active learner involvement can lead to important outcomes in the classroom. In kindergarten, students who are actively making observations, collecting results and drawing
I get to share my passions with children and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM. I currently tutor math students at a Title I school to prepare for the Milestone exam. In addition, I volunteer and serve meals with my family at a local men’s recovery center, the Extension. Through the activities I lead and serve in, I’ve cultivated an appreciation for those in my community and learned to apply my ethic to help others. My determination to learn and serve will guide to me towards a future involvement and success in college and as I obtain my career
