Developing their own study skills is part of finding out which skills students have already mastered and are efficient in. When students effectively develop these study skills it will help them to be able to succeed in any training session or class. Many students suffer due to the fact that they never do learn how to effectively use their study skills. Once students find out which skills they have already mastered and are efficient in they can figure out in which area they are lacking. In developing good study habits it is also best if students make a plan of action so that they can best use their time in order to reach their goals. At any time a student can alter or change their schedule if they need to, students just need to realize the importance of sticking to a plan or schedule. Being tired greatly reduces a person’s ability to study so students should never try and plan study time when they know they will be tired. If students study while tired, it will cause them to begin disliking study time. Eating is also very important for the development of good studying habits. If a student tries to study on an empty stomach they will not be able to focus on the material. Usually studying and average of one hour after eating is a good rule of thumb to follow. Students need to be aware of their study time as well, if a student studies to long they will began
After reading the article I want to change my study habits some. My goal is to implement the strategy previously mentioned. I think self-testing myself as I read will allow for much more long term absorption of material. In addition, to increasing the skills in how I read I want to learn to create study questions for myself. When study guides are not provided it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the idea of exams. However, we can train ourselves to recognize important information and create our own study questions to be able to answer before exam day. Self-testing and self-created study questions are going to my new approach at studying.
Due to my recent troubles at work I have been counseled twice in the past several weeks. This has given me a lot of time to reflect at the way I have really presented myself in the Army thus far. I have not always been the best Soldier that I could have been during most of the time I that I have been in so far. Thinking about this does bother me, it means that I could be trying harder to get ahead and better myself as a Soldier and a person. Lets say for example I have been late to work twice in the past several weeks not only to include missing a pt formation altogether. I did this by not ensuring that i had met alo of my neds to ensure that i woudl wake up in the morning. But by doing
After seeing the video of professor Chew’s talk on “How to get the most out of studying, part 1” I realize the mistakes I’m doing when I’m studying. I been doing the same mistake since high school and now I know why I was struggling so much in some classes. Because I was multitasking most of the time when I was studying and being over confidents about knowing the topic I wasted a lot of time learning.
Past research has revealed that study skills and learning practices have connections to the achievement level of a student’s academic accomplishments.
Picking the correct studying habit can make all the difference between being very successful on a test or failing. In order for a studying technique to prove itself as being effective, it must consistently demonstrate an increase in the grades of those that studied in such a manner. For instance, if one were to only reread the material and highlight what they believe to be the key points and they later failed the exam, then the studying technique did not do much to help them retain the information they needed in order to prove itself effective. When trying to pick a studying habit to use, there should also be a logical explanation as to how or why the practice is useful in allowing the brain to obtain the appropriate information. Through

Many students have pulled an all-nighter, crammed last minute, and drank several cups of coffee in order to make up for all of the procrastination they have done. Every night when they could study their minds wander off to other things and come up with excuses not to study. I’m one of them and every time I hear or think the word “study” I cringe. I don’t think I am the only one. Truth is studying does not have to be such a daunting task. No one needs to pull an all-nighter or cram all of the information in one night. Ever heard of the expression, “it’s not about quantity, but quality?” Same goes for studying. It’s not about how long you study or how often. You can study for five hours and get nothing out of it if you just sit there and read a textbook. Studying requires well-developed skills in order for it to be effective. In order for students to be able to study effectively they need to properly prepare to study, have good note taking skills, and develop a technique in order to retain all of the information.
Studying skills are a necessity with university and many students tend to not understand how valuable it is. Studying is when the students sit in an area with all of their necessary belongings and use numerous strategies to understand the material, instead of memorizing through repetition (Merkur, 2001, p. 98-99). This requires a lot of dedication and the students should understand that there is no way of avoiding it because it will reflect on their ability to perform in tests and final exams. The amount of time that is spent on studying will pay off through the reduction of stress and they will be relieved (Browne, 1997, p. 22). Also, it will build the confidence of the students, and by seeing the results that they are expecting will motivate them to continue to study because they will be able to believe in themselves to achieve their goals (Domenico, 1984, p. 88). Studying skills are mastered over time. Therefore, it is important to implement studying skills, such as, having an ideal study area, organization to prevent wasting valuable studying time, and a variety of effective strategies, in order to make studying productive.
