I’ve been dancing my entire life. I started by tap dancing when I was three years old, then later moved on to different styles of dance. However, the first day of my audition for an actual dance crew was kind of intense. I remember walking into a room full of talented dancers and completely doubting myself. It gave me a strange feeling in my stomach. I felt like throwing up, but I knew I had to suck it up and get through it. It made me nervous knowing that I was one of the last ones to audition. As soon as I got up on that stage, it was like all my fears suddenly switched off. I danced my heart out and gave it all I got. I got a call a few days later and they had told me that I made the crew. Since that day, I have never doubted myself in
Tap dance is an uniquely American dance form. The percussive use of one’s feet combined with the use of rhythms and amplification of sound, has a complex history that involves the intercultural fusions of English, Irish and African musical and dance traditions. The evolution of tap dance in America is further complicated by issues of race, class and gender. Unlike ballet with its formal technique, tap dance emerged from people listening to and watching each other dance, in a variety of settings, where steps were shared, stolen and reinvented. Through its metamorphosis the dance form has progressed from local entertainment, to Vaudeville shows, to Broadway shows, to the Silver Screen and to Concert Halls across the world. The legacy of the art form is characterized by the rise, fall and reemergence of popularity. Savion Glover, a 21st century American dancer, is credited with bringing tap into a new era of popularity as he has wowed the masses with his unique style focusing on African American rhythms. Tap dance, uniquely American in that it is a true melting pot of dance forms, is a dance form rich in rhythms, sounds and amplifications and has transcended social and cultural barriers.
When one hears the word ballerina, most picture a pretty, delicate dancer in a music box. The word is associated with grace and beauty. A ballet company would be considered a utopia for many little girls. They imagine being center stage with a tiara and a big tutu on. The public would not consider the world of professional ballet to be as corrupt as it is. There is trickery, politics, discrimination, and even self-sabotage in the seemingly harmless world. The tinkling music box world suddenly becomes a startlingly bleak place.
Whether you are dancing for passion, to get into shape or to just attain some mental peace, jazz is an excellent option to choose. This highly energetic dance form is unique and has revolutionised the way we look at dance.
The first dance performance I will be analyzing is “Don’t Fall Asleep”. There were dark red lights coming from the top before the dance began. Overall, there were fifteen dancers. There were many different props such as a bed with blankets on top that were rolling around on stage. Also, there was an acorn head that one of the dancers wore on top of his head. The music in the background was “Sweet dreams (Are Made of This)”. When watching this performance and the movement from the dancers, the story line in my opinion was there was a girl who was trying to sleep but she kept being awaken by these dreams. Her body language, jumping in and out of bed, running around basically made you aware that she was looking or running from something. The surrounding

I am a tap dancer. I have been trained in all other forms of dance, of course, but I have always considered myself a tap dancer above all else. To most people, this talent seems to be a pretty straightforward thing, however there is much more to it than meets the eye.
In the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, to dance means “to move your body in a way that goes with the rhythm and style of music that is being played”, (Simple Definition of dance). Many people can do the action of dancing but very few individuals are born with the talent that is required to fulfill a professional dance career. Individuals born with a natural talent and receive the training needed have a variety of occupations that they can acquire.
The history of tap originated in the United States from many styles of dance forms from different ethnicities such as African Tribal, Scottish Dance, Irish and English clog dances and jigs. Ever since then tap has been updated in many types of styles. Tap is a form of dance using tap shoes (shoes with metal plates in the heel and ball of the foot) striking the floor as a form of percussion. It is believed that African slaves and Irish servants had watched each other dancing on the plantations and combined them together to invent tap dancing, before it was believed that tap dancing came from an urban environment such as the Five Points District in New York City, where many ethnic groups lived together. Tap started between the mid and late 1800’s,
Growing up, I’ve always had an eye for the art of dance. When I was five years old I was a part of many dance teams in school and church. From dancing to helping others, I have always been involved in the dance world. For my future career, I’d love to become a professional dance teacher at the Visual Arts School. If I could help out at the Dance Place internship, I know that I would show just how ready I am for my future. The most important reason I would make a great intern at the Dance Place is because of my experience with being a captain, coaching, and teaching.

Clogging and tap are quite similar, hence why they’re often confused, but the style of these two dances and the shoes worn during each dance show how different these two types of dance actually are.
A legitimate argument can be made that pole dancing is a combination of both fitness and fantasy. The strength and control that the individual has to go through is phenomenal. There is, however, a fantasy component to pole dancing in the sense that it’s aesthetic form is beautiful to watch and may play a part in captivating the audiences imagination.
