Terrorism continues devastatingly in the United States to this day and has increasingly become a more major concern. Starting in 1886 with the Haymarket Affair, a bombing that killed 12 in Chicago, there has been an exponential increase in the amount of terrorist attacks since then. The 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center was a preface to many other terrorist attacks to follow, for example, 9/11. The destruction of this attack gave the United States a reason to fear more massacres and allowed us to increase security and protection of our nation. Today, domestic terrorism is one of the major threats to the national security of the US. Since 9/11, the US intelligence services and law enforcement agencies viewed international terrorism as the major threat to the public security of the US but the threat of domestic terrorism has been underestimated. At any rate, American law enforcement agencies conduct active campaigns to prevent international terrorism but domestic terrorism become a serious threat to the national security of the US. In such a way, the US needs to develop effective strategies to prevent the rise of domestic terrorism. Otherwise, the US may face a threat of the consistent growth of domestic terrorism as do some European countries, such as the UK, for instance. Therefore, law enforcement agencies should focus their attention on the prevention of domestic terrorism because, even though domestic terrorism is unseen, it may be even more dangerous than international terrorism. Domestic terrorists undermine the country from within, while international terrorists attack the US from the outside and the US can raise barriers to protect Americans from the foreign threat, while domestic terrorism needs effective work of law enforcement agencies nationwide. Therefore, domestic terrorism is a serious threat to the national security of the US and American law enforcement agencies along legislators and the public have to unite their efforts in the struggle against domestic terrorism.

Terrorism has always existed in American policing, and while the groups committing these acts have changed, their intentions have not. Their intentions being to cause maximum fear and scare those who they target into doing and following their ideology. In the 1970’s and 1980’s in America, the main terrorist groups were associated with the environmental movement and race based groups, while other parts of the world were dealing with Islamic extremists, were committing terrorist acts across the Middle East without much intervention from the United States. In fact the group Al-Qaeda, who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 and 2001, found its roots in the 1980’s fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with weapons supplied by the Central Intelligence Agency. While the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agencies knew of these groups, they underestimated the capabilities of lone wolf, small cell, and whole terrorist organizations. This was due to the fact that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies top priority was general crime such as organized crimes and white-collar crime.

Ever since 9/11 when both World Trade Center buildings were attacked by an Islamic Group, attacks by Islamic Terrorist on U.S. soil have been less of a threat than Domestic Terrorists. Domestic Terrorism has been shown these passed for years but yet again most of these cases have not been classified as acts of Domestic Terrorism they most likely fall into the category. Now the definition of Domestic Terrorism is basically "the committing of terrorist acts in the perpetrator 's own country against their fellow citizens". Now personally I don 't know how our government is working with these popular cases like Charlottesville, Las Vegas, and a new that just happened recently actually two but I 'll just say one, the New York attack that

Terrorism has had a profound affect on the world, as it has inspired fear and despair in the hearts of millions of people. Specifically in the United States, where in certain circumstances U.S. citizens will carry out acts of terror to further their own cause. Domestic terrorism has taken roots in many aspects of society through certain ideological groups, radicalization through media, and by acts of terror that cause immense civil unrest.

Terrorism which usually rarely ever used to happen has recently happened to spike in targets for terror over the past few decades.From the more recent attacks in Berlin to the various assassination attempts on US presidents.It can already be seen as something that cannot be taken very lightly.As a result many terror attacks keep on increasing over the decades. In the past the major figures for terrorism were Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Even though Bin Laden died terrorism still continues and it can even be said some terrorists could see Bin Laden as martyr for his horrendous terrorist attacks upon the US.

"Terrorism has more frequently been associated with violence committed by disenfranchised groups desperately attempting to gain a shred of power or influence" (Juergensmeyer 4), but more often terrorism has been for religion. Terrorism is done to get across someone religious views to others. We are seeing more acts of terrorism on the news today. ISIS being one of the biggest terrorist groups and has attacked on multiple occasions. More then ever, people are on edge to terrorist activity. Although we have come up with new ideas and ways to prevent terrorist attacks terrorism is still growing. After 9/11, the United States changed its policy on the process to board a plan. We try different ways to stop and prevent terrorist attacks but we still find new ways terrorists are attacking us. Terrorist attacks are never acts by on person rather its an act from multiple people. Juergensymeyer talks about different attacks and different ways those attacks where handled.

As stated in our textbook, terrorism is defined as, “The use or threat of violence to create terror in others, usually for political purposes” (Ember 299). Most often, when individuals hear the word, they think of September 11, 2001, the fateful day that changed our country. Since that day, it seems as if the word “terrorism” has become a common term used by newscasters, politicians, and everyday individuals alike. The concept and fear associated with “terrorism” has seemingly dominated the lives of Americans—and other individuals—since, implying that there was a time before 2001 where terrorism wasn’t as prevalent or didn’t exist. However, this certainly is not true because terrorism is not a new concept at all. As stated by our textbook,

There have been 2,608 total attacks and 226 fatal attacks in the United States between 1970 and 2011. According to Global Issues in Context, "Terrorism is the attempts to achieve a goal through violent or destructive acts intended to induce change by instilling fear among a group of people,” we could use this meaning to account the past terrorist activities that have happened in the U.S. Examples could be the 9/11 attacks that accounted for 82% of all terrorist-related deaths in the western world from 2000-2014 (economicsandpeace,org) The attacks also prompted 52% of Americans to not being able to concentrate on their work after the immediate days according to terrorismanlyasis.com. The importance of the past history of terrorism also spreads to the public of nations working to fight terrorism. “Civilians are not expected to be victims of political violence” (terrorismanlysis). In the book “The Terrorist’s Son” Zak Ebrahim explains the deaths that his father, Sayyid, caused. Including the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and the assassination of Rabbi Kahane (9). Someone once said, “Terrorism is a significant threat to peace, security, prosperity, and people.” Terrorism is an event that happens where someone intentionally causes harm and or death to many people. All terrorist attacks that happen in the United States are broadcasted everywhere around the world which causes people to feel sad for the person and families affected. For many days after the attack, there are people praying all around the world for the friends and families of the deceased and injured.

Have you ever had a fear for your family, your town, your country, or your world. How about the fear to have everything taken from you, destroyed, and not caring if it has hurt you or not? What about your fear and pain is, and can be someone else’s happiness? The fear of you being terrorized? That is terrorism. Someone else bringing fear and terrorizing you. That is a terrorist’s goal. Terrorism is common and is very difficult to stop. The government promises protection for the people, and their home, but they can not give that protection if they can not stop terrorism. Terrorism needs to stop to protect the live of the people, and their country.

Terrorism, which has been around for as long as people can remember, has been on the rise for the past ten years. Terrorists usually use murdering, kidnapping, hi-jacking and bombings to achieve their political purpose. For instance, according to Wikipedia.com (2006), in 1985 816 deaths, then in 2003, more than 1,000 people died by terorist acts around the world. In recent years, terrorism seems to be at a new height and attacks are much more violent than in the past. Unfortunately, in spite of many anti-terror campaigns, projects and organizations are being created for prevention (to prevent) terrorism, the number of terrorists only is increasing. These days terrorism is all over the world.
