Terrorism is the use of intentionally indis¬criminate violence as a means to create terror, or fear, to achieve political, religious, or ideological aim. Our book states that the use of terrorism as a tool ranges from individual acts of reckless destruction to property or persons to decidedly complicated events perpetrated by organizations with extreme social, environmental, religious, economic, or political agendas.(author of book) On November 5, 2009 one of the biggest military bases in the world was tested. Fort Hood Texas would have to answer a terrorist call that would change every bases emergency plan forever. This shooting is said to be the deadliest mass shooting on an American military base. Major Nidal Malik Hasan who was an Army psychiatrist, open fired killing 12 soldiers, one civilian, and wounded 43 others.
First responders have to face plenty of challenges before they could actually get to the victims. One of the responding nurses stated ‘that there was so much blood covering the floor inside the building, that they were unable to maintain balance, and had difficulty reaching the wounded to help them”. The nurses and medics tried to sneak in while the suspect was still engaging soldiers. Another problem that first responders encountered were people freaking out and running everywhere causing utter confusion. Furthermore, one of the military base defenders did encounter the suspect and tried to stop him, but she got shot twice. Sergeant Mark Todd who was a
For our purposes, we will use the Title 22 of the US Code, Section 2656f(d), to define terrorism. It defines terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents” (Central Intelligence Agency, 2013). Examples of terrorism persist on a near daily basis around the world. Unstable countries, such as Afghanistan and Syria, deal with terrorist attacks on a constant basis. The common thread of these attacks is deliberate targeting of civilian populations in order to achieve political objectives. The best known and largest example are
Ever since 9/11 when both World Trade Center buildings were attacked by an Islamic Group, attacks by Islamic Terrorist on U.S. soil have been less of a threat than Domestic Terrorists. Domestic Terrorism has been shown these passed for years but yet again most of these cases have not been classified as acts of Domestic Terrorism they most likely fall into the category. Now the definition of Domestic Terrorism is basically "the committing of terrorist acts in the perpetrator 's own country against their fellow citizens". Now personally I don 't know how our government is working with these popular cases like Charlottesville, Las Vegas, and a new that just happened recently actually two but I 'll just say one, the New York attack that
Terrorism is any act designed to cause terror. In a narrower sense, terrorism can be understood to feature a political objective. The word terrorism is politically loaded and emotionally charged. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, fourteen people shot and killed and twenty two were seriously injured. A married couple, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 29 were the cause of this mass shooting.
Terrorism is defined as the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion. It’s a problem that the United States and other countries have dealt with since before 9/11 but more significantly afterwards. On September 11, 2001, there was a series of four attacks by the Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda. Two planes crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third crashed into the Pentagon, which houses the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense in Virginia. There was a fourth plane that was on track to Washington, D.C. but crashed into field in Pennsylvania. Several lives were lost, a total of 2,977 according to a CNN report. However 9/11 was only the beginning of terrorist attacks. Although 9/11 happened in the United Sates, terrorist attacks are felt worldwide and happen in countries other than the U.S. Recently, there have been terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels. In 2015-16 alone there have been 10 known terrorist attacks in places such as Syria, Nigeria and Iraq, which doesn 't include the minuscule ones that the media doesn 't cover. I will describe the beginnings of terrorism. Second, I will show the influence of religion on terrorism, particularly Islam. Lastly, describe the effects of terrorism on different parts of the world and its causes.
The academic definition of a terrorism according to Martha Crenshaw is a “conspiratorial style of violence calculated to alter the attitudes and behavior of multitude audiences. Terrorism is not a mass or collective violence but rather the direct activity of small groups” (Tuman 9). Crenshaw is right when she says that terrorism is to alter the behavior of a large audiences. The fear that is put into the people is of a high magnitude. After September
In most cases, the mention of statistics in any written work is an indication of the extensive research carried out by the author, as well as the validity of information and arguments presented. Any argument seems good when supported with statistics, which is a factor of use of statistics to indicate the scientific nature of evidence, since numbers presented justify the arguments raised. However, these statistics are deceptive since they do not explore an argument or issue in its entirety. For instance, most authors focus on presenting statistics without explaining their background such as sources and explaining how they were obtained (Browne & Keeley, 2015). This paper presents an analysis of an example of graphical statistics that have been
Whether one refers to the Terrorist organization as Islamic State(IS), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS), Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant(ISIL). Terror is the main goal of this organization and inflicting fear and anquish has been the priority and objective since the birth of this group. Religous believes and political motives drives this group to bring pain and suffering not just to the United States, this pain knows no boundaries and reaches all depths and borders around the entire globe. Departments and Agencies dealing in Homeland Security have dealt with this issue since the inception of ISIS, proper channels have been developed to stopping and aiding in the submission of ISIS. However, stopping a terrorist organization
September 11, 2001 is a day many will not forget. This is one of the deadliest terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, in U.S. history. The Islamic extremists group, al Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden, had hijacked four planes two of which had crashed into World Trade Center, one in the Pentagon, and the other in an open field in Pennsylvania. These attacks left many people dead and the U.S. in a state of chaos. After September 11, 2001 many were affected by the lives loss, the stock market being closed for several days, wars began over seas, the Department of Homeland Security was created, airport security became more stringent, and families weren 't able to get financial aid.
Have you ever had a fear for your family, your town, your country, or your world. How about the fear to have everything taken from you, destroyed, and not caring if it has hurt you or not? What about your fear and pain is, and can be someone else’s happiness? The fear of you being terrorized? That is terrorism. Someone else bringing fear and terrorizing you. That is a terrorist’s goal. Terrorism is common and is very difficult to stop. The government promises protection for the people, and their home, but they can not give that protection if they can not stop terrorism. Terrorism needs to stop to protect the live of the people, and their country.
“You mutt. You are worthless scum.” Stated a NYPD officer as he attacked a young Muslim boy. Everyday people are effected by terrorism, but what not everyone knows or understands is how hard terrorism can be for innocent Muslims. Many Muslims are targeted because of their religious association with Islamic extreamists. Even some non-Muslim, Arabic people are targeted because of their ethnicity. Terrorism can take a major toll on Muslim-American’s physical, social, mental, and emeotional well being.
What is a terrorist? Who are terrorists? In a noun perspective, terrorist is a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. In other words meaning, the unlawful use or threat of violence especially against the state or the public as a politically motivated means of attack or coercion. The terms 'terrorist' and 'terrorism' have been used since the late 18th century. While several definitions agree that terrorism can or does consist in deliberately killing or trying to kill civilians, they disagree as to whether that violence should also aim at some political effect in order to qualify as 'terrorism'. The term terrorism, like globalism, is difficult to define and has a
On February 26, 1993, Islamic extremists bombed the World Trade Center killing six people and injuring over 1,000 people. The terrorists set off the bomb in the tower’s underground public parking. The suspected mastermind of the bombing was Ramzi Yousef. The suspected intent of the “1,500-pound urea-nitrate bomb” was to generate hydrogen cyanide gas that would kill everyone within the tower. “The terrorists apparently selected the World Trade Center as a target not because it was a symbol of Western values or the financial power of the United States, but simply because toppling the twin towers would enable them to inflict a large number of casualties (Tucker, pg200).” The motive bombing the World Trade Center was to ignite terror among the population and kill as many people as possible. Ramzi Yousef was motivated by hatred for the United States and to weaken US aid and support for Israel. This attack had operational, theological and psychological motives behind it.
Terrorism is defined in the word itself; to promote terror or fear. The goal of a terrorist is also to create the most damage, particularly mass casualties. Terrorists have a variety of ways to instill fear, but what Americans fear most is the use of WMDs. Terrorists have used WMDs as a tactics to induce fear for generations and in some cases they followed thru with their threats. After Pearl Harbor, Americans realized they could be attacked at home, but over time the memory of that day faded and was replaced by bravado again. Unfortunately, the idea that the United States could never be touched was decimated as millions watched those towers fall on 9/11. The question is no longer if the United States will be hit, but has become, when will it happen again?
Terrorism is when a group of extremist or just one extremist attacks because of political, religious, or economic reasons. I believe the reason why people use terrorism is because this is their form of revenge. They may disagree with something and attack to show how mad they are and to create fear. Terrorism has been used in the past. 9/11 was not the first time terrorism has happened. For example on February 26, 1993, there was the first World Trade Center bombing. What happened was that in a van there were explosives and cyanide. They were set of and six people died and thousands were wounded. Also, there was the Terror of the State. What happened was that millions of people were executed, arrested, and imprisoned. Around 20 million Soviets ended up dying. On February 25, 1994 a man named Baruch Goldstein did a religiously inspired terror. Goldstein was a follower of a Jewish terrorist group name Kach. During the holy month of Ramadan Goldstein went into the town of Hebron. In Hebron he went inside the Ibrahim Mosque. Inside the Ibrahim Mosque he had an assault-rifle and shot 111 shots. The people he was shooting at were 800 Palestinian Muslim worshippers. 29 people died and 150 were injured but were then beaten to death.
Terrorism has continuously been an ongoing danger all over the world. Threats pertaining to international security seem to be loosely organized and self-financed groups or the extremist Islamist parties using religion as a pretext that pose threats to the U.S. and other allies. However, while most see terrorism as being international, domestic radicalism has become an ever increasing problem, specifically within the United States. Cross national links between specific terrorists groups are becoming greatly feared, due to the increasing growth in combat training, funding, technological transfer and political development. Uranium Enrichment, a byproduct in producing chemical weapons (WMD’s) are becoming even greater in countries like North Korea, Syria and now Russia. With Iran being a major sponsor for terrorism and great influences like Al Qaeda forming groups desiring Uranium for the purposes of chemical warfare has led nations to constant anxiety. Terrorists’ threats pertaining to both national and international security are tremendously serious. By means of rapid growth in technological advancement, weapons of mass destruction are gradually greater than that of the past. The world population is now faced with a serious dilemma. “Terrorism, like viruses, is everywhere. There is a global perfusion of terrorism, which accompanies any system of domination as though it were its shadow, ready to activate itself anywhere, like a double agent” (Baudrillard, 2013).
