The American Cancer Society is the organization involved in facilitating and funding the annual Relay for Life fundraiser. Relay for Life is, “the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it 's time to take action against cancer” (Relay). This event couldn’t be what it is without the love and support from volunteers and sponsors globally. This events planning is imperative to its success because it’s important to those attending and to those who are fighting the battle of cancer. Although this is a global event, I am just going to focus on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station. This event is beneficial because it creates an event specifically for Texas A&M University, and many different organizations are involved in something important. Organizations on campus and the families of enrolled students get the opportunity to volunteer and unite to find a cure for cancer.
The purpose of my manual is to create a systematic list that can be used to schedule, plan, and facilitate the Relay for Life event for Texas A&M’s campus. This formal report will consist of the planning required prior to the event, the scheduling needed for the night, and the success and benefits of the fundraiser. This project gives you the inside scoop as to how things are scheduled and arranged for the night. This
The Run for Wellness Free 5K run has been an ongoing event since 2011 created by the Houston Wellness Project. The organization was founded in response to the rising necessity for improving community access to wellness programing. The mission of The Houston Wellness Project is to strive to promote healthy lifestyle choices by educating people and communities on a culture of positive wellness education. The Run for Wellness Free 5K is the main event that assist in fulfilling the mission as it usually occurs three times a month in three different locations here in Houston. The 5K run is free event that encourages people of all ages to come out and participate in an event that promotes a healthy lifestyle. There are many sponsors that support the event and help it be free for the people. Some of those sponsors include The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Marathon Foundation, Ramey & Schwaller, Houston Striders, and many more. Without their support and donations, plus the help of the volunteers, there is no way possible this event would be free for people to come out and enjoy. Furthermore, people participating in the event are free to donate as well, but it is not mandatory.
The product of the CIBC Run for the Cure is the 1K / 5K run itself. The run satisfies the needs and wants of the consumer and the consumers are the supporter of breast cancer, victims of breast cancer, and families of the victims. CIBC’s true purpose of this event is to spread awareness of breast cancer. CIBC Run for the Cure started with community of 1500 participants, but now there are more than 100,000 participants supporting and donating to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in order to help those suffering from cancer. The participants illustrate their support through the 1K / 5K run and by the act of wearing pink. This event fosters the positive feelings experiences for both men and women suffering from breast cancer, so they can

Each year, students orchestrate THON, a Penn State student-led philanthropic organization that raises money for Four Diamonds and Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Throughout the year, students coordinate fundraisers and a 46-hour dance marathon to cover costs that insurance companies will not cover and attain funding for pediatric cancer research. At Penn State, I intend to be a part of this phenomenal organization. Within THON, I plan to continue my leadership through becoming a committee member. Fundraising is an essential component in any kind philanthropic organization; therefore, participating in canning weekends, becoming a committee member, and raising money. All of the money raised through THON benefits Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital for groundbreaking research in pediatric oncology and medical support for families battling this devastating disease. Over the past 40 years, THON has raised over $127 million dollars to find a cure for pediatric cancer, the leading cause of fatal disease in children, which will impact the lives of those dealing with the effects of cancer and improve the overall quality of life for the
The Relay for Life website as well as the various Virginia Tech social media websites do a very good job of grasping the user’s attention when they first visit a website, with relevant photos and infographics. They also have a strong thematic unity by using a white background with the purple font on their websites. As far as containing well-presented information to create interest, they did a fairly good job but there is still some room for improvement. The banner on the Facebook page draws attention, but upon further analysis, it looks cluttered and does not clearly state the message that they are trying to convey on its own. They would also benefit from having more continuity of some of their messages across their platforms so that everyone receives the same information no matter where they look. In other areas, the details of when and where the event will take place, as well as how to get involved and donate to the cause were very clear. Nationally and around the Virginia Tech Campus, Relay for Life is a recognizable name and many are familiar with the cause. For those who are not their many outlets do an excellent job of describing why there is a need for this event and all that good that comes because of all the donations. It is also very easy to make donations, the links to make donations can often be found in bold on the websites so that it is simple for anyone to find out to donate. They also provided a detailed video walkthrough of the donation process for any confused visitors. Relay for Life overall does a good job of attracting attention, creating interest, stimulating desire, and promoting action leading to a successful marketing

Relay for Life is a fundraiser dedicated to the American Cancer Society. Through Kiwanis International Key Club, I have been given the opportunity to participate in Relay for Life twice, continuing onto my third year. Cancer is an illness which negatively affects people’s lives. Cancer is constantly affecting families and friends throughout the world.
Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the cancer care needs of underserved community members in Orange County and the greater Los Angeles area. In 2002, it was established by a group of innovative and devoted community members, cancer survivors, and physicians who saw the need for culturally and linguistically tailored resources and services within the community. Since then, VACF has been fortunate enough to serve over 20,000 community members, including cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones, providing them with financial, medical, and social support. After 13 years of operations, VACF has grown to become an important and reputable health resource for the disadvantaged members of the community suffering from cancer.

Getting involved in the community is very important to the success in fighting the battle against cancer. The ACS has a wide variety of opportunities to participate or attend community events. The website allows you to insert you location by zip code, city or state to find events and volunteer opportunities in your area. This service is great because you can find what works with individual schedules, help cancer patients and their families and build relationships that last a lifetime. Donations are another way to contribute to the fight against cancer. The contributions provide free programs and services, funds research and makes sure cancer remains a priority issue for future elected officials.
Mikey’s Place 5k Fun Run has their annual race every year to raise money for Mikey Daversa, who died from Spinal Muscular Atrophy at two years and nine months. The first thing that I helped out with is opening up several boxes and bags of fruit, pastries, and beverages for all runners and walkers participating. Then, the runners started arriving and getting ready to run the race. Many other students that were road marshalls were told to go to a street to become a “road marshall”. This is where we directed cars, guided and cheered on runners.
Cancer cells can grow on any part of your body, and start when cells begin to grow out of control and eventually become invasive. What is breast cancer? (2015, June 10) The breast is made up of lobes that have 15 to 20 sections and in each lobe there are many small sections that are called lobules. The lobules end in tiny bulbs that produce milk, the bulbs, lobes, and lobules are all linked by thin tube called ducts. Breasts also contain blood and lymph vessels. Lymph vessels carry lymph between the lymph nodes, which are small bean shaped structures that can be found through out the body. Lymph nodes filter the substances that go through the lymph to help fight infection and disease. Breast Cancer Treatment, (2015
Thank you for the reply and the informative questions. Currently, I have six sources which I need to narrow down, but all of them provide crucial information. The thesis example you provided is great. I am covering what cancer is, what causes cancer, and in what areas can specific elements be found that cause cancer. I do need to work on my thesis being more direct. Maybe something listed below.
Relay for Life is a campaign across the world to help raise money to fight against cancer and raise awareness. The goal during this event is to have a team member walking or running around a specific area for 24 hours. This symbolizes how cancer patients do not get a rest from their battle.
“There is no better exercise for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.”- John Holmes. There is no better feeling than knowing that you helped someone else. Especially when you could have saved their life. Cancer has killed tons of people all over the world. Many people support cancer research or the patients. Different people have different reasons for supporting cancer. Three charities that support cancer in different ways are Beads of Courage, American Cancer Society and the Cancer Research Institute. If I raise money for these charities it could make a difference in the world.
