It is increasingly evident that humans have caused most of the warming, through the emission of gases that retain heat, to potentiate our modern life. These causes are a product of economic growth and the use of technologies. How are we going to cope with the changes we have already put in place? While we try to understand it, the face of the earth and as we know it, its coasts, forests and snowy mountains are in suspense.

Over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has been increasing at the fastest rate ever recorded. Experts say that the heating rate is only going to increase, while people who deny this say that there has been a “slow down” or “pause” in the rising global temperatures. Scientists say that unless something changes, the average U.S. temperature could increase by 10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next century. (1) Almost 100% of the global temperature increases have been the result of increased greenhouse gas concentration like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone. One of the largest sources of greenhouse gas is the burning of fossil fuels leading to the emission of carbon monoxide. (2) Most scientists have agreed that the main cause of the current global warming is the expansion of the “greenhouse effect”. (3)

Scientists around the world have been researching climate change since the 1970’s. One thing most agree on is that the temperature of Earth is rising at a rapid pace and that global warming has been caused mostly by human activity. Our atmosphere contains gases that act as a blanket, because it traps heat from the sun and prevents it from escaping back into space. The trapping of the sun’s heat by these gases is known as the greenhouse effect, and the gases are called greenhouse gases. The main greenhouse gases that occur in nature are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Without the greenhouse effect, earth would be too cold to support life.

Global warming refers to an extended increase in the earth's average and average temperatures of the atmosphere and water bodies especially the oceans and seas. The problem of global warming has resulted in various negative ramifications affecting humankind. Human activities have significantly led to the increasing effects of global warming that is experienced in different places worldwide. Global warming was experienced in the 20th century when the earth's average temperature rose by 0.60 Celsius from an average temperature of oceans and the atmosphere (Ritter, 11-21). Global warming distracts the typical living conditions since the temperatures increase to extreme limits and deplete the Ozone layer which is meant to protect human being from the effects of direct rays of the sun. The Ozone layer is very significant and needs to be preserved to avoid the impact of direct sunshine which causes sunburns on human skin. It is clear that global warming has been increasing to a more significant extent since the 18th century due to the actions of human beings themselves. The core reason behind this tremendous increase is the new developments in technology and setting up of industries. Industries emit dangerous gases from burning fossils fuels, gasoline hence producing carbon dioxide which depletes the Ozone layer which is purposely meant to shield the earth from direct sunshine. Global warming has become a massive problem throughout the world, and as the population grows so do the effects of climate change. What people do not know is that it is the leading cause of the earth’s end and might be a minor cause of death in the far future. Global warming is one of the many things that humans have caused that has no easy fix. Professors Charles Kennel, V. Ramanathan, and David G. Victor at the University of California – San Diego say that “Greenhouse gas concentrations are trending far off the path needed to avoid dangerous interference…nations are making little progress…to cut their emissions” (398). The problem started back in 1800-1870 when the first coalition revolutions started; the use of coal, railroads, and other productions increased greenhouse gas emissions. This may have been the first cause of climate change and from here on it led to the effects. Now, it has become so damaging that it needs to be solved. Solutions need to occur because it causes a threat on the human race and is getting worse each year. The two solutions that will have the finest possible outcomes are putting a tax on carbon and using energy efficient products.

The Planet Earth is broken, and we all had a hand in breaking it, inadvertently though it may have been, by adding an abundance of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere that contribute directly to global warming; and we continue to do so every time we start our car, turn up the heat, turn on the lights or throw away trash. Global warming is a problem, caused in large part by human activity, and as it stands, poses a monumental threat to the planet and all of its occupants; while mega polluters do not have an incentive to stop greenhouse gas production, we can, as individuals work towards the solution, greenhouse gas reduction, by improving our awareness and implementing the day to day measures necessary in achieving this goal. The purpose of this paper is to explore global warming, its causes and effects, in order to better understand what we can do to stop it.

I am going to be telling you about 5 independent variables that are contributing to the cause of a problem the world is currently faced with, global warming. What is global warming? Well, global warming is a rise in the Earth 's average atmospheric temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect (which I will talk more about.) Which is when our ozone layer has a hole which gradually increases, and increases heat from the sun. This causes major problems such as the polar caps melting and increase of temperatures on Earth.

It is also known that volcanoes have affected the cause of global warming. Volcanoes are said to emit carbon dioxide (CO2) in two ways. First during the volcanic eruptions and secondly through underground magma which is a combination of molten rock and gases below the surface of the Earth that may erupt from a volcano as lava [12]. When the volcanoes erupt the gas from the volcanoes pollute the air causing gas emissions to be let out. Most of the carbon dioxide that is released by volcanoes is emitted by degassing of subterranean magma when the volcano is not erupting [5]. It is also said that volcanoes can “alter the orbit of the earth” which makes it a key factor for climate change. While volcanoes only exist in certain parts of the planet, the release of gas, dust, and ash into the atmosphere can cause a lot of damage. Global Warming is a huge issue that affects the people, environment and world. If it doesn't stop now, results could end up disastrous. What exactly is global warming? Global warming calls attention to the global temperature levels increasing which results to the change in the climate. It is not until recently that people are recognizing the many affects the climate change has made on the atmosphere. Luckily, it isn’t too late to fix the issue but there is still a lot of work to do.

Global warming or climate change is a very serious problem in the world today. “Global warming is the current increase in temperature of the Earth's surface (both land and water) as well as its atmosphere,” says Emily Crouse. Global temperatures have risen about 1.4°F over the last hundred years. As small and unimportant as this sounds, it is extremely dangerous for this Earth. If the temperature has risen this much in 100 years what will happen in 1,000? Rising temperatures mean rising sea levels, more wildfires, bigger and stronger storms, more allergies and disease outbreaks, and so much more. There are many causes of global warming, whether it be by human or naturally, for instance, deforestation or the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming in a negative way.

Temperatures rising, storms collapsing down in our homes, and illnesses affecting everyone all around us. Imagine these threatening matters approaching our life in the nearby future. The causes of these matters are due to global warming. Global warming occurs through the continuing increase in temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere due to the trigger of high levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Global warming is strongly associated with the greenhouse effect and the gases. Other examples include the effects of what global warming does, which vary. A few common issues are floods and droughts caused by an increase in temperature. Global warming remains slowly damaging our planet in ways that can be potentially fatal to all living organisms in it.
