The Causes And Effects Of Global Warming

Global warming is occurring all over the world. It is causing dangerous new weather patterns, including, hurricane and tornado strength. It also impacts the ocean in a bad way quickly destroying habitats. People are the main reason that global warming is happening because of all the fossil fuels we burn daily. Overall, global warming is dangerous and is happening.

The Earth is warming up, so what does this mean for the billions of people that will be affected, if global warming continues? Global warming is the act of Greenhouse Gases; which is Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen in the form of water vapor. These greenhouse gases are how the Earth stays warm, heat comes from the sun and with the help of greenhouse gases; the heat from the sun becomes trapped; to keep the Earth warm. Since the industrial revolution, which increased the use of fossil fuel, the Earth’s temperature has been rising at an alarming rate (Gale Video, 2015). Global warming is affecting the lives of billions of people, with extreme weather, effects on food production, and rising health concerns.

Have you ever heard about global warming? Global warming is a gradual increase in the temperature of the Earth’s surface both water and land . Years ago, when the Earth experienced an increase in temperature it was a result of natural causes but today it is being caused by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere produced by human activities. The greenhouse effect occurs because of the presence of specific gases in the atmosphere at a high rate. These gases play a major role in maintaining the earth’s thermal energy. Due to absorbing a portion of the infrared radiation emitted from its surface and retaining it in the atmosphere; Subsequently,  heating the surface of the Earth and maintaining its temperature constant or up to the level that makes life possible. The rise in the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere led to the retention of a larger amount of thermal energy in the Earth, affecting all its operation and system. Global warming affects the planet seriously in several ways including climate change,  melting polar ice caps and widespread extinctions of species.

Has anyone wondered why climate is in flux? Who is the major culprit behind this extreme climate changes? “Swedish physicist Svante Arrhenius was the first scientist to assert that heightened concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could lead to global warming in 1896.” As global warming is the greatest environmental challenge today, we should be aware that it is actually “a gradual rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system and its related effects.”

Global warming has become a very popular issue in the last 20 years, as a result of the causes it gives to our magnificent earth, as well as different species on this earth. Global warming can be interpreted as an increase in the earth's average atmospheric temperature that induces corresponding changes in climate, and that may be associated with the greenhouse effect. I chose to do my cause and effect essay on global warming because I believe it has a significant impact on humans, not only today but especially in the future.

Most of the world’s population has agreed that global warming is real, and the major culprit in this crime is humans. It has created such a fiery showdown in debates from both sides of the political parties to express their thoughts on the issue. By all means, individuals are allowed to have opinions, but such a scientific topic needs to be addressed by facts only. In depth, the information that is presented often into global warming is greenhouse gases and the effects of it. Greenhouse gas are any gaseous compound that is capable of absorbing radiation therefore traps heat into the atmosphere. With this in mind, the effects of greenhouse gases and the result in sea level rise affect the Earth despite the claims that global warming is a natural process.

Human life have been significantly affected by the industrialization of our planet, consequently resulting in an increased emission of greenhouse gases. These gases have contributed to the increasing temperature of the Earth which is known as Global warming. Of all the greenhouse gases, Carbon dioxide emission have the largest impact that contribute to Global warming. In addition, increasing carbon dioxide emission has become a growing trend in developed countries. The evidence of global warming are glaciers retreating, extreme weather patterns occurings, and animals that depend on cold climates for survival are at risk of being extinct. Even with the evidence of Global Warming, there are some people who does not believe in global warming or see it as an issue that should be addressed. One of the common arguments by non-believers of global warming is that the earth surface temperature was always increasing in the past.

It is considered one of the most challenging environmental problems that exists today. Due to global warming, temperatures on Earth are rising and it’s affecting the way people live. Many people feel concerned about this issue while others could not care less. Developing countries do not understand the impact global warming has and how they should contribute to it while developed countries that contribute to global warming know that this situation is a big impact. Global warming is caused by a myriad of factors and as a result have negative effects on the people and how they live.

Global warming has been a very contentious issue of late in regards to environmental health and safety. Many pundits and critics alike exclaim that global warming is not as prevalent as individuals claim. One such pundit is that of George Will, whose article, "Dark Green Doomsdayers" indicates that global warming is simply a hoax. The statistics however prove otherwise. Global warming and its effects are far reaching. Society is affected due to higher frequency of natural disasters and drought. Wildlife suffers as many animals become extinct, primarily in the artic region. Agriculture suffers as warming creates a larger propensity for drought and forest fires. This ultimately affects the American tax payer as more money is needed to help abate the fires influences on society. Currently, global warming is coming to the forefront both politically and nationally. It is a very real problem, that can easily be solves through ingenuity and perseverance.

Over the past decade, the Earth’s gradual temperature increase has sparked a debate amongst scientists and politicians. Scientists have conducted research to understand the cause and effect of global warming, but it can take years for scientists to reach a consensus. The claims that global warming is the next apocalypse or is just some fairy tale lack scientific proof. These claims have confused the general public, and leave many citizens’ questions unanswered. Many people are concerned about the overall decline of environmental health due to an increase in man-made greenhouse gas emissions, but experts are now clarifying the debate on global warming with hard scientific evidence that may prove global climate change is a naturally occurring phenomenon.

It is also known that volcanoes have affected the cause of global warming. Volcanoes are said to emit carbon dioxide (CO2) in two ways. First during the volcanic eruptions and secondly through underground magma which is a combination of molten rock and gases below the surface of the Earth that may erupt from a volcano as lava [12]. When the volcanoes erupt the gas from the volcanoes pollute the air causing gas emissions to be let out. Most of the carbon dioxide that is released by volcanoes is emitted by degassing of subterranean magma when the volcano is not erupting [5]. It is also said that volcanoes can “alter the orbit of the earth” which makes it a key factor for climate change. Global warming is a term heard quite often in everyday life, however, many people are unaware of what it actually is, or its diverse causes and effects on the Earth. Global warming is a the gradual increase of the Earth’s average surface temperatures, as a result of the enhanced buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere; such as carbon dioxide emissions present from burning fossil fuels. Our Earth’s atmosphere behaves like a greenhouse, although, trapping heat in a different way. Gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and methane, act like a giant piece of glass wrapped around the planet. The sun’s rays pass straight through these greenhouse gases and heat the Earth, the Earth then gives off heat energy that radiates into space. A small amount of this heat does not pass out of the atmosphere and is reflected back towards the planet and effectively traps the heat we need to survive. This is called the natural greenhouse effect and without it, the Earth would not support the large diversity of life it needs to. This process is not something to be concerned about, however, the enhanced greenhouse effect is something we, as contributors, need be aware of.
