Greasers are usually known to be ignorant, dumb, selfish, and carless. That’s what people think but in reality, they aren’t different from us at all. The Socs look down at the Greasers as if they are useless trash humans. In this essay I will be proving the society wrong when they claim Greasers are trash. I will be showing three Greasers that are heroic to society. They go by Ponyboy Curtis, Dallas Winston, and Johnny.
The first Geaser I will be talking about that shows heroism is Ponyboy Curtis. Ponyboy is the protagonist of the story. He is a fourteen-year-old kid who is the youngest greaser from the gang. He has two other brothers known as Sodapop and Darry and unfortunately his parents were killed in a car accident when he was young.

Johnny and Ponyboy are true friends who can relate to each other a lot. They also both done heroic things with each other. Like what I said in the last paragraph Johnny and Ponyboy saved the children from the burning church and defended Cherry a Socs. In this paragraph I am going to show you more examples of how Johnny is a hero. When Ponyboy and Johnny were jumped by 5 Socs at a park Ponyboy spat on one of the Socs face. In result Bob a Socs tried to drown Ponyboy in a fountain but Johnny stabbed Bob with a switchblade. Bob ended up dying but Johnny had to do what he had to do to save Ponyboy. Another example is when Jonny decided to run away with Ponyboy when Ponyboy had a problem at home. Johnny never let Ponyboy have troubles on his own he’s always there for Ponyboy. They say Johnny is shy but in my opinion Johnny is brave and heroic.
Least but not last Dallas Winston is the final character that shows heroism. They call him Dally as a nickname. Dally is tough and big. He’s aggressive but he has a big heart. He has been arrested before and used to live on the New York streets. To be honest Dally is a bad he’s been arrested, been in many fights, probably killed someone before, and he harasses girls. Who would have thought Dally has a heart in him or has ever showed heroism? In this paragraph ill prove you wrong. Dally showed heroism when Ponyboy and Johnny asked him for help when they were wanted by the fuzz.
“I am a greaser. I am a JD and a hood. I blacken the name of our fair city. I beat up people. I rob gas stations. I am a menace to society. Man do I have fun!” exclaimed Ponyboy. The Greasers play the role of the unlawful “hoodlums” in their community. They are considered wild and unruly. When a Soc sees a Greaser, they assume they are dirty troublemakers and white trash. The Greasers were
Ponyboy is a hero because he is courageous and not afraid to rescue and help people in their times of need. One main reason why Ponyboy is a hero is that when school children are stuck in a fire Ponyboy runs in to rescue them. Ponyboy yells to the teacher, “I’ll get them, don’t worry… I’ll get them,” and immediately rushes into the burning building to rescue the children. This quote shows the true nature of Ponyboy because he is concerned for a group of children trapped in a burning church. He was so worried that he goes in to the burning church with disregard for his safety and saves the kids. What he did when the church was burning meats the definition of a hero perfectly, he was courageous, saved people who needed his help, and was even called a hero by the newspaper. Another way that Ponyboy is a hero is that when Randy, a soc comes over and talks to Ponyboy, Ponyboy listens and talks to Randy about Randy’s problems. Randy then goes on to say, “Thanks kid.” This is a small gesture of kindness shown by Ponyboy, yet it is an act of heroism too. People do not have to save the world to be a hero, a small act of kindness still can take a courageous gesture like overcoming the differences between two people like Ponyboy and Randy did. Heroism in its own simple but pleasant way being kind to others is also heroic. Ponyboy is a hero because no mater how big or small
Who do you think is a hero or has shown heroism through their life. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy’s interests and behavior contrasts his gang. For example, he hates to fight unless he has to, unlike his friends who fight for the fun of it or because everyone is doing it. Though he is the oddball of the group he still displayed great heroism throughout the book. In S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, Ponyboy displays many heroic traits and is a risk-taker. He shows great courage, his personality, and his actions are respected by many people.
Write an essay explaining why you believe each of the Greasers - Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally - could be considered a hero. Include your own definition of hero in the essay, and be sure to explain how each character, in his own way, meets your definition. Remember to support your ideas with examples.
Our very own towns hoodlum ‘greaser’ Ponyboy Curtis is a not a hero some folks argue, but others, praise the hoodlum hero. Ponyboy curtis is a hero because he’s very good at school, both academically and athletically, and he’s tough.
Last but not least, Ponyboy faces the society’s impression of the greasers. Everybody thinks that they are hoods and that nothing good can come out of them. The greasers are judged strongly because of their economic status and face judgment from everyone. Nobody cares to understand their life and what experience on a daily basis. He also finds out when he was in Windrixville, that people don’t judge them like they do in their city. The whole conflict of the story is the Greasers and the Socs. The characters in the story have gone about their own ways to at least try to fix the problem. Many chose fighting and violence in general, but Ponyboy choose to write a book for a writing assignment. He discovers that there is no difference between them
In the book, Dally was hallmarked as a reckless thug, but he showed heroism by offering a plot and some supplies to Ponyboy and Johnny to protect them. He might not perfectly fit in my earlier definition of a hero, nevertheless he was is in the eyes of Johnny and Ponyboy in that glimpse. In addition, he dragged Johnny out of the fire and got burned in the process. Thus, he is a true hero.
Ponyboy is a hero because he went into a burning church and saved the children that were in the the church. Ponyboy is also a hero is because he is a survivor. Ponyboy is a hero because he is not afraid to step up. Ch.8 says a quote from johnny and it says I would, I would help her and Randy both if I could. "Hey," I said suddenly, "can you see the sunset real good from the West Side?" That meant that Ponyboy has the desire to help people in problems which makes him a hero. Another quote was in ch 4 which meant that ponyboy isn’t afraid of anything and it says “You know what a Soc is? I said, my voice trembling with rage. "White trash with Mustangs and madras." And then, because I couldn't think of anything bad enough to call them, I spit at them.” Heroes are people who rescue others or people that do something that is really brave. Ponyboy did that, so he is a hero in that way.
Some people might think that Ponyboy has the stereotype of a hero and not a greaser, because he, Johnny and Dally saved the kids at the burning church. “I swear, you three are the bravest kids I’ve seen in a long time.”(42), after saving the trapped kids Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally were called the bravest kids the school teacher has ever seen. Another reason that Ponyboy could be considered as a hero is that he tried to save Dally, because when he was in a police chase. Ponyboy tried to make the police not shoot Dally, he was tried trying his life for his friend but he could not complete. The final reason that Ponyboy is a hero is that he helped out Cherry (a girl soc who is a spy, rich, and snobby). What Ponyboy taught her is that the socs and the same it does not depend on the side they live
In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are 3 Greasers that are heroes. Johnny is a hero, for many reasons, he is courageous, brave and he risked his life to save a lot of people. First, he saved Ponyboy from drowning in the fountain. Also, he saved some kids from the church that was on fire. Finally, Dally is a hero, for reasons just like Johnny, he saved Johnny from dying in the church. Also, Ponyboy is a hero,he also saved the kids from the church that was on fire.
Do you the readers know who the meanest toughest member of the greasers is . do you know that to be heroic you gotta be real brave and tough also real smart. And the bravest greaser is the least obvious . he takes to take care of his own . he works hard doing it to just to care for his brothers. In that Darry is the most heroic because he does all of that
Dallas Winston was a great man. He was there when we needed him. At the age of 14 he moved to Oklahoma, he made some incredible friends, Johnny, Darry, Two-bit, Sodapop, and Steve and I. That’s where he met, and formed our gang, the greasers. Though, Dally was tough, and mean looking, he showed sympathy, and compassion for his fellow gang members, especially Johnny. Dally did everything for us, when our gang thought he was unable to fight at the rumble, he still did because he wanted to help us, he didn’t want to see us lose against the Socs. And have our territory taken.
During the story, Ponyboy begins to talk and socialize with Cherry Valance about the differences between Socs and Greasers. He begins to change and grow more wiser as he manages being on the run, and having to deal with near-death situations, like when Johnny almost died in the hospital.
Darry is a hero because he gave up his dreams to care for his brothers. He gave up his school scholarship, he has lots of responsibilities for his age, and he also works two jobs to be able to support his family. In chapter 1, it said that Darry has two jobs and didn't have enough money to go to college, if he were to go to college he would still be in school and gotten his scholarship but his brothers would be in a boys home or a foster house and would be separated. In chapter 3, it said that Darry's parents past away, since his parents are dead he has a lot of responsibility such as feeding him and his brothers, working to get paid to support him and his brothers, and needs to protect them from any threats. In chapter 1, it said he worked two jobs which means that he is spending most of his days working instead of getting his scholarship, which is really big because
Peolpe ask who had it tougher from the gangs, the socs or the greasers?Everone has different opinions. Socs and greasers dont like eachother people think socs are good and greasers are bad. The greasers have it tougher they dont have alot of stuff and have it harder in life. People are going to say the greasers are really bad and dont care about eachother.
