The Odyssey In The Odyssey, the main character Odysseus travels a long and distant journey to find himself making many decisions that lead to consequences. Odysseus’s excursion took Homer three parts to explain. The first part was the description of how Ithica was struggling. This was when Odysseus went to the Trojan War. Then in part two and three is his accounts and how he struggles to get home after the war. The Gods make his journey tough, especially Poseidon. Even though Odysseus’s trip was lengthy and difficult he achieved a lot from it. He learned a lot alongside his curiosity leading to a rich life packed with wisdom. The journeys of Odysseus bring him both pleasure and pain.

First, let’s explore Odysseus risk-taking side and see how this lead to him being in dangerous situations. Early on, after Odysseus had defeated the Trojans, he was already disliked by Poseidon. Poseidon condemns a curse on Odysseus and his men, which made his travels difficult and is how arrived at the Land of the Cyclops. Thereafter meeting the Cyclops, Polyphemus which is Poseidon's son, Odysseus blinds and tricks him. He says his name is Nohbdy so if anyone asked what was happening, he would say Nohbdy is attacking him, therefore the people would think he is fine. This isn’t going to slip past Poseidon so when Odysseus built his raft to leave, he cursed him with sea storm which obliterate his raft and endangers Odysseus's life, since he has to swim to the next island.
