The Dangers of Animal Agriculture: The world is at a point in history where it is time to make or break. The earth is slowly dying due to rising global temperatures, pollution, and most importantly animal agriculture. The evidence is so blatant, correlating animal agriculture with global warming, that it nearly hits us humans right in the face, yet we continue to act as if this problem is miniscule. The actual term global warming is defined as a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth 's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. Not only is animal agriculture the

People may ask why this is such an issue? Changing eating habits isn’t hard. It is extremely hard, because we are changing everything about our culture. Global warming is not seen as big problem in our culture today. In fact, around 1.6 billion people still don’t think climate change or global warming is even a thing. Animal agriculture has correlation with the highest sea level rise ever recorded in history along with, warming oceans, spiking global temperatures, declining arctic sea ice, shrinking ice sheets, ocean acidification and decreased snow cover every year. It only continues to get worse. The problem with this is that worldwide, 61% of the greenhouse gases produced on earth is from animal agriculture. The next closest being 18% due to fossil fuels (Climate Change Indicators in the United States). The answer is plain and simple, there needs to be regulations put on all meats to limit the amount produced year. Scientists believe that if people produced just enough or even a little more than we need for a meat diet, instead of producing 10 billion, producing 7.5 billion, the greenhouse gas from animal agriculture would be 26% less than it is currently. There needs to be a change in the way life is right now, because if the numbers keep increases the way they are, the earth will be like one big Chernobyl, poisoned by pure Co2. However, humanity has always found a way to survive, and this task ahead will prove to
There is so much demand for meat to be produced and because of that, there is also a lot of demand in resources. Did you know that a quarter pound of burger 6.7 pounds of grain to be foraged, 52.8 gallons of drinking water, 74.5 square feet for grazing and growing the feed crops, and 1036 BTU’s for feed production and transport, and that’s enough to power a microwave for about 18 minutes. As you see it requires a lot of resources to produce a small amount of meat. I mentioned earlier that on average 250 tons of meat are consumed worldwide every year. By the year 2050 this number is supposed to double. increases in demand of meat is driven by increases in human population growth. Did you know that 1/3 of the total cereal harvest is used for animal feeding right now. In order to produce 1 calorie in the form of meat, up to 30 calories of vegetable foods have to be used as feed. So overall there’s a big loss for just animal
Anna Lappé’s book, Diet for a Hot Planet, discusses the impact that meat consumption has on the planet and our environment. It discusses how the global food system is a major contributor to climate change, producing as much as one-third of greenhouse gas emissions. She writes about how the way we farm, what we eat, and how our food gets to our tables all
We’ve all heard environmentalists explain what global warming is, why it’s dangerous, and what we can do to stop it. People protest against auto emissions and fossil fuel daily. “ But the one industry that produces more greenhouse gases than all the SUV’s, cars, ships, planes, and trucks in the world combined, has carefully avoided scrutiny” (Goveg.com). Often overlooked in environmental destruction is the meat industry. This industry has a major source of deforestation, wasted natural resources, and pollution. As consumers we expect our food to be safe, but Americans should pay more attention and fear what may affect our environment in the future.
Animal rights are practically non-existent in many different ways today. Factory farming is probably the worst thing they can do to the poor helpless animals. Factory farming effects chickens, cows, pigs, and many other animals that are used for food, milk and eggs. One of the biggest organizations against factory farming is called Compassion Over Killing (COK). They go to great lengths to protest and inform people about animal cruelty.
Over the years the issues of animal cruelty in factory farms has became a major issue, because of the thriving meat industry. The issues regarding animal cruelty are important because it concerns fundamental moral and economic questions in respect to the way animals are treated, before being brutally slaughtered and consumed by americans daily. The topic of animal cruelty raises multiple differing arguments, many concerning religion and a person's geological location in the world. By considering the arguments made by people who believe animal cruelty to be morally acceptable, and researching the verified practices taking place in factory farms today it will be clear that in the United States, factory farming is a cruel and unnecessary practice.
Animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors to climate change; however, this fact goes unacknowledged by most people. Livestock and their byproducts produce monstrous amounts
What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are “thrown” into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. “When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them” (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that “authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self-processed animal “rescue” after they were found in the “rescuer’s” filthy home.” (‘No-Kill’ Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe “shelter”. The shelter being a dirty home.
Today’s factory farms, animals are crammed into thousands of filthy, windowless sheds, stuffed into wire cages, metal crates and many other tortuous devices. These animals are packed into spaces so tightly they can barely move. Many have no access to the outdoors, spending their lives on warehouse floors, or housed in cages and pens. They are stripped from their natural living, never being able to raise a family, build nests or root around in the soil. Most won’t feel the warmth of the sun or breathe fresh air until they are crammed into a truck, which is typically without food or water and sent to the slaughterhouse. They are often injected with antibiotics used to make them grow abnormally fast and keep them alive in unsanitary conditions.
Cause and Effect the Failure of the Revolution The revolution among the animals in Animal Farm started off as a great plan, but it did not end that way. Furthermore, as the novel progresses, Napoleon and Snowball prove to be too different to complete the mission and they fail in giving the farm animals the life they had always hoped for. In the end, the reader can see that Mr. Jones was indeed a much more favorable owner and leader than Napoleon and Snowball. Though Snowball did genuinely care about the welfare of the animals, he was much too naïve and, in the end, was driven out of the farm.
The sector emits significant amounts of three of the most important GHGs: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). In fact, globally the farm animal sector accounts for: 9% of human-induced CO2 emissions, 35-40% of human-induced CH4 emissions, which has 25 times the global warming potential (GWP), or power, of CO2 over 100 years, and 65% of human-induced N2O emissions, which has about 300 times the GWP of CO2.” The Humane Society International explains here that animal agriculture is responsible for up to 65% of our emissions of these compounds, and shows that animal agriculture contributes to more emissions of the most powerful substances, while it contributes less to the weaker ones. While animal agriculture isn’t responsible for all of our pollution, it definitely plays a major role in the way we affect our
Global Warming is a rising issue for all the creatures on the Earth. Scientists haven been discovering the reasons and solutions for the global environmental changes for decades. Also, because of the effort of the scientists and media, people got aware of the great impacts of green house effect. However, most people only know that global warming is caused by the industries, manufactures or transportations, and neglect another huge factor of the environment, the food industry, and to be specific, the livestock production. In this proposal, I will mainly introduce my topic which is “Food industry, livestock production, and global warming, develop the questions for my future assignments, discuss the importance of this topic, state the reasons why the topic is interesting, and share my personal experience related to the topic.
Given that our ingesting of meats has given way for animal farming techniques, one reason for reducing your intake of meats is that it reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Animal farms produce just as many greenhouse gasses as all of our transportation means such as cars, trucks, airplanes and ships, combined. If you didn’t know, Greenhouse Gasses are molecules that remain in our atmosphere after they are released by the digestion of animals and other irrelevant things. Greenhouse gasses have been proven responsible for global warming. Once the sun’s heat enters our planet’s atmosphere it can’t easily escape because it absorbed, released, then reabsorbed by greenhouse gasses. One effect of global warming is that animals have begun to move farther north to cooler temperatures this will affect the entire ecosystem. Ice caps are
In order for us to help the wildlife during global warming we need to decrease the amount of pollution we put in the air. We can do this by reducing the amount of energy we use and how many times we use our vehicles in a day. We could also stop littering and start recycling. Land development is also a cause. All of these ways can lead to deterioration of certain species’ habitats. This is a serious problem and i want to persuade and and inform you what we can do to stop it and how it is affecting everyday life lives all the way to to the littlest things to the biggest thing. Global warming is growing at a faster and faster rate. Society thinks global warming is not a big deal and is okay with it. Nobody should be okay with this. Global warming is a horrible way of how we treat yourself, our planet, and the animals.
Attempts made to decrease greenhouse gas emissions caused by animal agriculture would be costly and significantly impact budget constrains across the nation and would not stop the climate change from occurring anyway as cyclical change is inevitable in the Earth’s environment. Many worry about the monetary impact that aiding the environment would create. Stopping to
In recent years, animal agriculture has been a focal point of many studies due to the rising threat of climate change. Animal agriculture, or in more recent years intensive animal farming, is the treatment and harvesting of farm animals such as chickens, cows, and pigs. Since the late 19th centuries, animal agriculture has been rapidly increasing, to a point where the amount of animal agriculture production doubled four times between 1820 and 1975 (Scully). The study of animal agriculture hasn't gotten much of the spotlight in recent years, not until global warming started to become a massive problem and threat to the new world. During these reports, they discovered that animals produce immense amounts of methane, a gas thirteen times more lethal than carbon dioxide. These reports led into a different section, and began to study the effects of animal agriculture on the people, not on the environment. There can be many different social issues caused by the increase of animal agriculture, many of which can be extremely detrimental to the community. There are also some problems caused politically, with the large influx of immigrant workers to take these agriculture jobs, but they also come along with some benefits for the community.
