Inhalants
This video talked over the classification of drugs known to America as inhalants. According to the video Inhalants are known to be nitrous oxide solvents, aerosols, and nitrites. Inhalants can be found and obtained very easily in your local grocery stores, hardware stores and local pharmacies. Because of their easy accessibility to be found in kitchen and bathroom cabinets, much of its use is among adolescents. Individuals that consume inhalants normally breathe in the fumes through their nose or mouth,
Inhalants are known for its rapid rush of euphoria and light headedness only lasts a brief second to a few minutes. The lungs take in the inhaled chemicals into the bloodstream very quickly and send them all over the brain and body. Almost all inhalants produce a pleasurable effect by slowing down brain activity. The danger of these inhalants is the amount of time they can remain in the body after used. Consistent use of these inhalants can also cause serious harm to vital organs and systems besides the brain. They can cause nerve damage that can lead to chronic pain, weakness in the muscles, liver failure and heart damage.

While sudden sniffing death syndrome is rare, research show how the toxic poisonings from the fumes can cause the heart to stop quickly causing a heart attack. There are several signs to indicate a person using Inhalants. One of the most common signs are the strong chemical odor on the individuals clothing and breathe. For minors, obvious paint and other stains on their face, hands and
After taking a puff of a cigarette the nicotine reaches the brain within seconds. The nicotine affects the brain and the central nervous system, putting the smoker in a better or worse mood (American Cancer Society). Nicotine increases levels of dopamine which allows a person to feel pleasure (NIH). In it’s liquid form, the injection of even one drop of nicotine could be deadly. When trying to quit the loss of nicotine changes the levels of dopamine in the body drastically which can make you feel anxious and depressed. Nicotine cravings are usually very strong making it difficult for most people to quit, keeping them consumers of L&M
A. Risks include increased risk of developing lung infections and lung cancer, coughing, and obstruction of air passages. It also may impair concentration and coordination but only if used in negative-intended/harmful ways.
“The human spirits it more powerful than any drug and THAT is what needs to be nourished: with work, play, friends, family. These are the things that matter.” Robin Williams, Awakening. That quote means to me that the things that matter in life is not drugs it’s about what nourish your brain and other organs. Drugs can be concealed in your everyday items.
➢ Soot in the nostrils or throat may give a clue as to the degree of smoke inhalation.
There are a few different ways inhalants are abused, a few are breathing them through your nose or mouth known as huffing. You can also sniff or snort fumes like a glue bottle, spraying for example computer cleaning dusters directly into nose or mouth. The high people get from inhalants only last a few minutes so abusers continue to inhale repeatedly for several hours to prolong the feeling. New users from ages 12-15 usually use glue, shoe polish, spray paints, gasoline, and lighter fluid. People ages 16-17 mostly use nitrous oxide and adults most commonly use inhalants known as nitrites. Products that are abused as inhalants include
“When nicotine hits the bloodstream, it can circulate around the whole body until it reaches the brain.” (Nicotine Effects) This process can happen in just seconds. The nicotine in people’s bodies does not last very long, causing them to repeat their drug use more often throughout
This particular article highlights the impact between childhood sexual abuse and alcohol, cannabis and cigarette use in minor girls. The usage of substances by minor girls increases when there is a direct link to childhood sexual abuse in their past. Having early substance usage affects the brain negatively during a vital period of brain development, which, can result in negative consequences and further delinquency. Cigarette use and cannabis use in this study, had proved to be an actual distinct factor in linkage with childhood sexual abuse. Additionally, there is substantial likelihood of early alcohol use if a history of sexual abuse is in existence.
Marijuana has over 100 chemicals and the main ingredient that alters the mind is THC. THC is tetrahydrocannabinol, which is a psychoactive chemical responsible for the intoxicating effects that people enjoy (“What is Marijuana,” 2017, pp. 2). When you are on a high, you can often feel a sense of relaxation and a euphoria. One way to achieve a high, is by inhaling smoke into your lungs. But the amount of chemicals that marijuana has must have damaging risks to the human body.
To begin, exposure to passive smoke as a child harms the function of the respiratory system by causing illnesses to develop in the lungs during childhood. Children who were exposed to passive smoke are highly prone to develop respiratory illnesses. For instance, asthma is one of the most common illness caused by exposure to passive smoke. Studies show that there is an increased risk of asthma in children associated with maternal passive smoke exposure by 20% to 85% (Burke et al, 2012). Through these statistics, we can quantitatively show how harmful exposure of particles from tobacco smoke is to the lungs of children and the possibility of developing asthma at childhood from passive exposure through the mother. Asthma is a respiratory condition resulting from particles in the bronchi of the lungs leading to breathing difficulty, whereby causing an inflammation of the air passages in the lungs due to particles affecting sensitivity of nerve endings (Asthma Society of Canada, 2015.) Particles such as nicotine from tobacco affect the sensitivity of the nerve ending in the airway leading to irritability resulting in buildup of mucus in airway. These particles easily pass through our passage way ,because they damage the mucus lining, so they are not easily blocked, which is why they enter into the lungs causing irritation triggering an asthma attack. While examining 133,800 to 161,600 asthma related cases, it was found that children during early childhood from two months to five

This may also target anyone who smokes in general because they will most likely be around a child at one time or another. The purpose of this advertisement is to show parents, kids, or anyone who smokes in general, that breathing in secondhand smoke can be deadly for infants and children. Smokers need to be mindful of
You can overdose on inhalants. A person can overdose when they take in more toxins than their system can process. Symptoms of inhalant overdose are extreme confusion, blackouts, seizures (Which might lead to death), loss of consciousness, and a
The brain is a vital part of the human body, it is how humans function and process so when smoking it causes the brain to react differently. Nicotine is said to be as addictive as heroin and it is hard to beat becauses it changes the brain drastically. The brain develops extra nicotine receptors to accommodate the large doses of nicotine from tobacco. When the brain stops getting the nicotine it’s used to, they result in nicotine withdrawal (18 Ways Smoking Affects Your Health). People may feel anxious, irritable, and have high cravings for nicotine. The brain is not the only thing that is affected while using these products, the head and face are included as well. Here is a scary thought for smokers: "The moment smoke enters the body, it attacks the tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat, esophagus, air passages, and lungs. In the lungs, most of the inhaled compounds are retained. Once nicotine is absorbed into the lungs, its effects reach the brain within 6 seconds, twice as fast as main lining heroin."
Breathe in. Breathe out. It’s been said that for every cigarette a person smokes it takes seven minutes away from his or her life. Nicotine is known to be very addictive and kills hundreds of people with diverse diseases each year. Whatever may draw a person to start smoking, there are numerous effects of those breathes. The use of tobacco, specifically smoking cigarettes, is found to have no benefits to human health or the environment. The unknown chemicals and ingredients will leave the consumer with lasting effects.
